Can you please help with an installation problem?

I have setup Linux 8.2 on a PC with the following spec:

Processor: AMD Athlon 2.1 GHz

Math Support: Present

BIOS: VIA694 - 42302e31 Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG, 11/01/02

Motherboard Epox 8K5A2+

Bus Type: PCI, ISA

Ports: 1 Parallel, 9 Serial

Memory: 512 MB 2700 333Hz (37% Utilized)

Floppy Disks: 1.44 MB

Hard Disks: 28.63 GB, 111.79 GB, 38.34 GB

Multimedia: Sound, CD-ROM, CD-RW

Video: 1280 x 1024 in 64K Colors, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ver. 6.14

The hard drives 111.79G Win XP Pro & 38.34G Data only are set as 'Masters' ATA100's on IDE 3&4 ports. The hard drive 28.63 is set up as a 'Master' with Linux 8.2 and sits on IDE1. IDE 2 is used to control a CD and a CDRW set as master and slave.

My question: ;(

Why will Linux NOT boot up with the ATA drives connected and powered?

What is linux 8.2?

I am sure you mean Suse or Mandrake or something.

Please clarify because it makes it hard for you to be helped.

Anyhow are you having trouble booting a Install cd?

or are you having trouble booting an allready installed linux system?
