    Problems with GA-7ixe4 Mobo

I've got the same mobo and so has a mate - I've installed it on Win98SE, WinXP RC2, Linux Mandrake 7.2 without problems. He's got Win2k Pro on it, again, without problems. Motherboard = fine (might be set up incorrectly?) CPU - fine HDD - maybe (i have a seagate 30Gb, no problems though) Seems like a CDROM/DVD drive issue, if it installs fine on other drives...or maybe the controller on the mobo. Hope that info helps :S

W2K Boot up time - is 60 seconds short or long ? seems like

Win2k is the slowest thing i have ever seen boot Jeez, linux is faster XP boots in about 15 seconds, to logon screen, after entering password, about 3-4 seconds to fully loaded desktop.

Whats are you doing you stupid little HD?

How are you formatting it? As long as you dont need anything on the drive, try FDISK'ing it, then format it to NTFS during the install.

You should see what i did. :)

Nice!!! /me likes fans. Lots of fans. Last week i spray painted my case, added an 80mm intake fan, and an 80mm exhaust fan next to the CPU fan....works pretty well. last night i took an angle grinder to the side of my case, put in a window, gonna re-spray it today, add the actual window, and take some pics

. faulty sblive? limiting my fps to 115

Fair enough, bit im not assuming i know what the problem is, i dont know what the problem is, ive not bothered to work it out because the only way this "problem" is affecting him is that he can't run Q3 at higher than 115fps, which is more than double a perfectly playable speed.

. faulty sblive? limiting my fps to 115

PsychoSword - The problem he is having is that his framerate is limited to 115, it's NOT a percentage performance decrease. So the max he's going to get is 115fps, "tomorrows" game wont be able to run at +115fps, that's it. Perhaps if you stop and think a little.

    3D Performance

Win2k is shite for D3D compared to win9x. DosFreak - you may think 40fps is fine at that res, obviously it is - but i guaruntee it's faster in win98se. Win98SE is far better for D3D, about the same for OpenGL, but its a load of shite when it comes to system stability/memory management/security etc Don't get me wrong, I love win2k - it does everything I want it to, but I have Win98SE as well to play games, what's wrong with that? It's set up only to play games, and it goes like a ****ing rocket. Bottom line: Win2k is inferior for D3D at the moment.

    3D Performance

Make sure SP1 is on there As for 3Dmark - Win2k is absolutely SHITE for D3D, compared to an OS on the Win9x core.

    Half Life Blue Shift

Blueshift it alright, not a huge amount of new things - but a lot of cool gameplay all the same. The HD pack is awesome, the new models are great.

Maybe New SB Live Drivers available!

Hmmmmm... I upgraded from an Ensoniq PCI Audio a few weeks ago and have had no problems at all so far, everything's been sweet, in Win98SE and Win2k Pro

Can't wait to see your robot Andy As for the Live! Drivers, these ones work fine! I have no problems! Why release new ones?...

Poll: Which game is better in your opinion?

"If it aint a FPS, it aint worth talkin' about"
  18. Let me introduce to my old old old old old, first, graphics card. "The plank" was a name given to it by a friend, after seeing it in my cupboard. Pics: Yes, that's a bottle of bud. and YES, its bigger than it. I actually used to play Quake1 on that....ahh, 15fps On another note, (and i know this deserves to be in the case and cooling forum, but what the hell) These are pics of my server, and the ingenious cooling solution that I came up with... Yes, its an NE2000 network card. RAH! Hey, it stays cool
  19. DavidNewbould

"The Plank" and what it WAS used for -pics inside!

oooooooops Down8 i was spamming this across a few forums, including ars technica openforum (great forum btw) they have a case and cooling forum, and that's where i made the original post.

Kryo II video card is it any good?

Apparently, it spanks every card on the market, bar the GF3....

Counterstrike: is anyone running opengl/d3d with TNT2 and Wi

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... If you're loading CS via a shortcut, remove "-game cstrike -console" from it, load cs manually, and that "play cs" screen should go away. Have you tried the 7.58 WHQL drivers? They're the drivers i mainly used for win2k, and they worked perfectly for me. Make sure you've got the latest AGP/Motherboard drivers, and depending on how old your motherboard is, you might want to flash your BIOS - i flashed mine with an updated version that had the "TNT2 problem fixed"...Just a thought. In regard to the crashing, are you sure the problem doesn't lie somewhere else? Overheating? How much RAM do you have and how good quality is it?

Counterstrike: is anyone running opengl/d3d with TNT2 and Wi

Yeah I've got a GF2MX now, but last week I had a TNT2 Pro, and before that, a TNT2 M64... In win2k, with the pro i was getting 60-80fps @ 1024x768 on my K6-III 450, but that's a lot of tweaking. The reason yours is only hitting 30fps is because its in software mode. Also, make sure you have v-sync off, as half-life limits the framerate to half the refresh rate if it's on. With detonator2's 5.32 half-life WILL work. However, if for some bizzare reason they dont, use the WHQL 7.58.

Counterstrike: is anyone running opengl/d3d with TNT2 and Wi

Brian, I didn't think you of all people would recommend him to get a new card, when he obviously doesn't need one. Erock - the drivers you want are version 5.32, these are the fastest for the TNT2 range of graphics cards. Win2k is fully compatible with OpenGL, but make sure you have at least Service Pack 1 installed - it gives a great performance increase in games. Get these drivers from Efa11's Driver Archive.

    Nothing but problems since SP2

I grabbed the version that was on the microsoft website, and it's been fine. No real difference between this and SP1 to be honest, apart from compatibility mode, which i never use. You could try uninstalling you one you've got and installing the one i used. But really, there is hardly any noticeable difference between 1 and 2
