Tagcrumbs launches location-based iPhone application - Published on 01/12/10

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tagcrumbs, the Internet platform for sharing your favorite places, is now offering a free application for the iPhone and iPod touch. With Tagcrumbs, everyone can remember and recommend exciting locations to swim, dive and climb as well as famous landmarks, stunning viewpoints or remarkable architecture. Tagcrumbs is not a game with check-ins, but rather an application for travelers and place experts to create and present locations of their field of interest.

Sindelfingen, Germany - Tagcrumbs, the Internet platform for sharing your favorite places, is now offering a free application for the iPhone and iPod touch. The application can be downloaded from Apple's App Store in seven countries, including the US, UK and Germany. The launch of the iPhone application is a response to the increasing popularity of location-based services offered by US startups such as Foursquare and Gowalla. However, Tagcrumbs is not a game with "check-ins", but rather an application for travelers and place experts to create and present locations of their field of interest.

With Tagcrumbs, everyone can remember and recommend exciting locations to swim, dive and climb as well as famous landmarks, stunning viewpoints or remarkable architecture. "The power of Tagcrumbs lies in the flexibility and simplicity to "tag" local discoveries of all kinds, be it the newly opened restaurant, a cozy beach bar or a hidden barbecue area", says Tagcrumbs co-founder Benedikt Foit. "Users create their own categories with the help of tags and work on sets of places collaboratively."

The three founders of Tagcrumbs expect to continuously see creative usages of their iPhone and web application. "We are expecting sets of places that can range from airplane spotting locations at Frankfurt airport to scuba diving spots on Barbados", says Cornelius Rabsch. "A new layer of 'personal mobile recommendations' by people you trust will be built."

The application can also be used when no Internet connection is available, relying solely on GPS. This is especially useful when traveling abroad to avoid roaming fees. The website adds to the experience: all the information is seamlessly synchronized between the iPhone and website.

The main features of the iPhone app are:

* Discover: Explore friends' places and everything nearby

* Remember: Tag and publish places

* Share: Recommend discoveries to friends

* No sign-up: Start right away

* Offline use: Create drafts and publish later

* Web and mobile: Access places from mobile and the web

Device Requirements:

* iPhone or iPod touch 3.1 or later
