Storm Spotter for iPhone - Radar Animations and Multiple Source Warnings - Published on 01/12/10

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ross Kimes today released Storm Spotter 1.0.3 for iPhone and iPod Touch users. Storm Spotter is the only app that provides up to the minute weather data using multiple sources at the same time. It also allows for frame by frame radar animations and GPS positioning, showing a user's location in relation to an oncoming storm. Developed by a storm chasing, meteorology major from the University of Oklahoma, Storm Spotter was programmed to provide the most complete weather coverage possible.

Waretown, NJ - Announcing that Ross Kimes, the developer of Storm Spotter, has released a totally unique weather data app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Storm Spotter is the only app that provides up to the minute weather data using multiple sources at the same time. It also allows for frame by frame radar animations and GPS positioning, which shows a user's location in relation to an oncoming storm.

Developed by a storm chasing, meteorology major from the University of Oklahoma, Storm Spotter was programmed to provide the most complete weather coverage possible. It turns an iDevice into a weather reporting station, with data from 155 radar sites around the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Guam.

Storm Spotter is the only app that displays warnings, via map and text file. Users are informed about looming weather patterns such as, hurricane, tornadoes, thunderstorms and floods for their region or locations around the world. Optionally, users can turn off the warning feature for as long as they like.

As the one existing app that allows the collecting of data from multiple radars at the same time, Storm Spotter gives users a feature to animate the radar image frame by frame. This function shows weather in motion, as it is happening. Refreshing and up[censored] information is just a matter of shaking the iDevice.

The app also offers standard, satellite or hybrid Google Maps displays to give visual positioning and to show users the storm's range. This provides a valuable tool for finding an alternate route away from a storm area, if necessary.

Features:

* Support for Base Reflectivity, Base Velocity, Storm Relative Velocity, One Hour and Storm Total Rainfall

* A customizable Google Maps (Standard, Satellite, or Hybrid) display that allows you to set the opacity of the radar image as well as turn the warnings display on of off

* A complete warnings list (Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, and Flash Flood) that also allows you to view the text file for the warning

* iPhone 3G and 3GS users can use the GPS to display their location on the map. Great for storm chasing, or just avoiding the storm altogether. The original iPhone can display location based on cell phone tower triangulation and iPod Touches can be located based on their IP address

* Radar animation is available, plus the ability to manually navigate between frames

* The ability to connect to multiple radars simultaneously so more than one radar will stay updated (Note: Only one radar can be displayed at a time, but the other connected radars will continue to download data in the background)

* Saves images of connected radars between launches so you won't have to download the same image over and over again

Being fed multiple source data, issuing advance warnings and offering potential escape route information are all the trademarks of an important app. Storm Spotter uniquely fits the bill.

Device Requirements:

* iPhone or iPod Touch 2.2.1 or later

Pricing and Availability:

Storm Spotter 1.0.3 is only $4.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Weather category. Promo codes are available for qualified reviewers. Please specify the website or blog you represent when making your request.
