ASUS Xonar DS PCI sound card review @ Elite Bastards

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a good weekend. ASUS' Xonar range of sound cards have proved to be both impressive and popular offerings ever since their launch a couple of years ago, with only pricing serving as a potential barrier to entry for users looking to move above and beyond an on-board audio solution. However, the latest addition to the Xonar range looks to remove even this barrier, attempting to bring the audio quality and basic feature set that we've come to know and love to an even lower price point. The result is the Xonar DS, and today we take an exclusive look to see if it's succeeded in its task.

ASUS Xonar DS PCI sound card review

"Compared to the larger PCBs, complete with EMI shield, that we're used to seeing from ASUS' Xonar parts, the Xonar DS is certainly diminutive, doubtless taking some hints from the small form factor of Auzentech's X-Fi Forte which proved that audio quality needn't be compromised by using a small physical PCB. Also of note here is that the OPAMPs used by the Xonar DS can be replaced by the user if you're looking for even higher quality analogue audio output."
