Netgear GA311

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just installed Mandrake 10.1 (PowerPack+) and everything seemed to go fine. I setup an internet connection and the control center says that my card is installed but when i try to connect It won't let them. I have 2 ethernet cards in the box (one PCI and on Built-in) and both have the same problem. Can someone help me?

Thanks,

Chris

Here is a link to the Mandrake network setup documentation. Are the cards just recognized or actually set up?

Did you set up the network connection during the installation?

Are you using a dynamic or static internet connection?

What onboard NIC is in the system? If you don't know, what motherboard are you using? This will help sort out what NIC to use.

If you did set up the network during the install, on boot, as you see the messages scrolling by, you should see something like;

eth0............

If you see the message etho......failed

the card is not set up properly yet.

Once we know more information, we can go on and help to get the connection going.

Hi danleff,

I ran through the setup before and tried it again accourding to the documentatin and I still get the same results.

Are the cards just recognized or actually set up? Not Sure

Did you set up the network connection during the installation? Yes

Are you using a dynamic or static internet connection? Either, its part of a LAN. I have eth0 set up as a Static right now and eth1 dynamic.

What onboard NIC is in the system? If you don't know, what motherboard are you using? MB = SOYO K7VME; It has the VIA KM400 Chipset

When configured to Automatic:

eth0.... [FAILED]

eth1.... [FAILED]

When I set eth0 to manual and assign the IP i get:

eth0.... [OK]

eth1.... [FAILED]

Here is my network setup:

Modem -> Router/Firewall - > Main Switch - > Second Switch -> Linux Box.

I also Have a windows box sitting next to it and i am able to get on the net with it but not the linux. Any other info you need?

Thanks

I recommend you boot up your linux box with one of the Linux liveCDs, which are usually good about finding your network connection and letting you get on the net in an instant.

Before you go to a live cd (you have time and possibly bought Mandrake Powerpack?) try this;

Get into the Mandrake Control Center.

Then --> Boot --> Bootloader

Check 'Force no APIC'.

Try making the eth0 interface (probably the onboard card) auto with DHCP. No need to add addresses and such - follow the config. to the end and allow the network to restart.

Reboot

See what happens.
