slow load-up of desktop

Recommended Posts

on this machine

just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.

it takes about 10-15 seconds for all the icons on my desktop to fully appear and before i can click on anything.

win2000

Athlon 600

128mb RAM

*clean install

my guess is, there's a bunch of start-up programs running at the background at startu-up.

any tips on how i can take stop these programs, or if this is in fact my problem?

thanks!

I'm not sure where I found it, but I have it if you;d like to email me, but there's a program that acts like msconfig in 98.

Get tweakUI and turn of most of the lil visual enhancements. These things become very taxing on system resources.

I'm not sure if you suffer the same problem, but every install of w2k acts the same upon booting up to your GUI. It seems to have finished loading, the hard drive is inactive. But clicking on any of the icons and/or folders results in no response. It's like the system has crashed, but I wait 15 seconds or so and then they respond.

Im having a similair problem with the systray..It boots into the desktop at a decent speed but than it wants to load something it cant/wont...

In event viewer i keep getting at bootup:

ERROR: WinMgMt

--------------

WMI ADAP was unable to load the winspool.drv performance library due to an unknown problem within the library: 0x0

Any ideas?

Maybe replacing that winspool.drv by one off a friends win2k pro?

things are much faster now.

installed StartUp COP (YES IT WORKS!)

and RegClean 3.0 (not MS)http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/

the only thing at start-up now is mobosync.exe/logon

did a defrag, after taking out all the other things at start-up.

also, i cut down the services to 12 services set on AUTOMATIC at start-up.

i'm happy now! laugh

yes, there is a slight delay on the desktop...but much less now that there are only 12 services.

everything works great!

Kav: I get that same winspool.drv problem as ya.

Anyhow the reason for Win2k's lagged upon startup is becoz its searching natively for a DHCP Lease !
