  1. hey guys. Have a problem, I've noticted quite a few things I open come up with the error "program.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You must restart the program" something along those lines (where program.exe is a name of any program). This most notably happens when i try to play Medal of Honor Allied Assault. What happens in that game is when I am loading the map right before it finishes loading, my Windows Taskbar shows up at the bottom and the program freezes then that error comes up. I am using SMP. my system specs are as follows Tyan Tiger MP 2x 1600MP's 512mb ram Adaptec 39160 scsi Cheetah x15 36LP 18.4gig UltraPLEX 40x reader PlexWriter 40x GF4 4400 3ware 7210 RAID/ 1 120gb WD1200JB Windows 2000 This is more or less a fresh install. Haven't had this problem on my other Win2k machines. I have been installing most of my software on my 120gb drive F. Which I wouldn't think would cause this problem. Again this happens on more than just MoHAA, when I was installing my Audigy drivers, it did the same thing but somehow the installer kept going. My error log doesn't say anything too exciting, i have a Dr. Watson entry that says something about some API call .. not too informative for me though .. thanks in advance for any help .. -neural

    "has generated errors." Win2k/MoHAA problem

Sampson, it is actaully the exact same error, the only thing that changes is the program name. "program.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You must restart the program" This also happened when i tried to install my Audigy drivers, I think it tried to write some registry settings and then it happened .. but the Audigy install continued like nothing happened, and works fine.. -neural

    IP capture

I have a situation where I have a vpn setup on a win2k server, the server unfortunately is on Dial-up and has a dhcp ip address. I need to administer it via terminal services, it is up most of the time, however as I said it is dhcp. So I need a way to get the IP, does anyone know of a tool I can use for this, or maybe some vb/c++/c# source code for this? as i have VS.NET. If it only emails me its address whenever it logs on, would be fine, or if its a two part program, is fine .. heh no I dont want to use bo or anything like that, well any help would be appreciated .. thanks -neural

    Adding a ata133 controller on win2k system

You could edit boot.ini or reinstall, if you choose to reinstall then make sure you press F6 at boot up. If you dont reinstall, install the drivers first. then you can boot with say a 98bootdisk, and edit the boot.ini file, I believe replacing ur line with this line should work [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(1)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(1)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect remember to back it up, but that should work, reinstalling will work .. good luck .. -neural

    DVD-R/RW/RAM drive question

I'm fairly experienced in dvd stuff and no there isnt a set standard, but the DVR-A03 is a great choice, it is actaully the "Defacto choice", heh or general consensus of all .. dvd .. dvdr users=) .. it will suit whatever you need it for .. good luck .. -neural -Oh ya, you can get the DVR-A03 a lot cheaper than 420$ .. look on pricewatch, you can find it for ~$370 ..

    Cluster.exe

This may be a dumb question, but i just "stumbled" on this this program .. i was kinda bored, and trying to find my cluster size, used chkdsk (forgot in win2k its diff from dos), like i said bored, half-asleep, started throwing random command names at it, and i threw "cluster" and it returned all this .. stuf .. and im and I'm just wondering what this command is intended for , "cluster/?" isnt very useful .. thanks in advance .. -neural

    clone CD

you can use CDRWIN, it does not use the ASPI .. i suggest getting an aspi though, just wnaspi32.dll will work, but do a search on google for "Forceaspi 1.7", use its, its basically the adaptec aspi drivers, works well, good luck .. -neural

    Win2K and Raid

see if there is an updated driver/bios for your raid controller, there should be, also you can do it this way regardless .. if you cant get it to install correctly, try installing it to one harddrive, normally, install drivers for raid controller through windows, make a ghost image of this, then make your raid array, power up, and install the ghost image on the raid array, this should work .. unless there is an issue with the controller and 2k, which there shouldnt be .. try the updated drivers/bios first .. good luck .. -neural

well the main problem "via bug", was one that turned up in large ide transfers, thats what im aware, yes thats a creative chipset, could very well be a 4in1 issue .. but have my suspiscion that it could be what i posted before, at any rate, a turtle beach could fix this nicely i think=) .. good luck .. -neural

    MP3 Player compatibility problem

no, you can resize your ntfs partition (do a search for "Partition Resizer", its free and resizes ntfs partitions) decrease the size of ur current partition, then in ur Disk Administrator snap-in, create another partition, format it as FAT32, store your mp3's on that partition, good luck .. -neural

you can rename the Administrator acount, in the local group policy, to RavishingRocket and delete ur current account, samething basically, the guest account is disabled by default anyway, and about deleting the directory, is this a network share? are you doing it as Admin? if not do you have permision? -neural

Help with new NT compatable server hardware

as far as what motherboards work with NT, it doesnt really work that way, .. any modern motherboard, will *run* NT fine. not going to see a label on the board that says " will work with NT or anything". If you do want to save money, unless you absolutely have to have the special features that a 3com 100$ nic provides, you can stick with a much cheaper nic that works just as well. Im assuming you wont an ethernet nic and not wireless. The CUSL2 as mentioned is a good board, from what i see from your needs i think that would be more than adequate, but if you want a p4 any of the boards should work fine for you, but if your going to spend the extra money for a p4, you might as well get a RAMBUS/or DDR chipset based one, instead of pc133, but i agree with the last poster the CUSL2, and ram .. as a side note, the other day i upgraded a Dell, p3 600, with 128m, running NT4, that was ridiculously slugish to open programs, or even "my computer", to 640megs, and it had a very noticiable impact .. well just my thoughts .. good luck .. -neural

    Sound/Geforce 256 issue

you could try taking it out of acpi mode, jus go into device manager, and update the driver under the "computer" section, thats says "ACPI", when you update, go to "show all devices in this cat." or something similar, and use the "Standard PC", some have reported a lot of problems with this, but they should be using seperate irq's, then .. eh when he gets the Turtle beach, or whatever he is getting, it will probably clear this up .. good luck .. -neural

    Sound/Geforce 256 issue

try getting the latest drivers, are they sharing an irq (even if you have acpi installed)? could also be interference i suppose from the vid card, would be strange but i guess its possible, well try that .. getting a new turtle beach a possibility? .. -neural

    IDE Questions

whenever you put anything else on a chain with a harddrive, it has the potential to slow it down, the harddrive should still be able to run in UDMA5, and cdrom will run at pio4 or whatever it runs at.. but its generally a bad idea performance wise to slave anything to an hd in ide. it may not be a huge hit though, but i think it will still run at, .. cdrom's are cheap, and 12x .. is worse than minimum=), well just my thoughts, good luck .. -neural

    Sblive 5.1

I know there has been a few posts on it, Ive read them, still at a loss really. I just installed Win2k on my machine that has an XGamer5.1, well first i went to download drivers from creative's site, which wasnt fun, i finally found some that looked to be what i wanted. Well, they installed and i can get 2 speakers and the sub, but i want to get the full 4.1 sound that I got in 9x, (5.1 just wont work period, unless with a dvd correct?), I went to control panel and changed the "speaker setup" properties to "5.1 speaker system". I also downloaded "unofficial" drivers i guess from one of the posts on here .. Well if anyone has any idea how i can get all my speakers to work in win2k, I'd really appreciate it .. i dont mind the eax thing, i just want the 5.1 .. thanx -neural [edit] just wanted to clarify, I only get sound out of the front 2 speakers, i get nothing out of the other 3, I just want the sound to be like it was in 9x on this machine, if possible, mp3's suck with 2 speakers heh [/edit]

    Sblive 5.1

ya, im going to do a reinstall (all those creative reinstalls and all) and i think i will jus go ahead and install the "Speaker Preset Setup", looks like it fixes the problem, for some reason it looks like, the "5.1 speaker setup" doesnt get enabled through control panel, and maybe that Speaker Preset Setup, adds an entry to the registry or something, well thanks for your help .. this is a pretty cool board, thanks .. -neural

Compressed folders and win2k where to get?

to do this, all you need are dunzip32.dll, dzip32.dll, and zipfldr.dll , you can get these from a winME cd, jus pop ur ME cd in, and go to search, and in the "containing text" type ur file name, if u didnt know, this is a nice way to search cabs without bothering with extract.exe , and then put those 3 files in ur system32 folder, and go to a cmd prompt, nav to system32 and do a 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll' and voila, compressed folders .. -neural

    Sblive 5.1

ok i found this like 5.12.1.3512 from a link off this site, to some french site called station drivers http://www.fdrsoft.fr.fm/ they had this 60meg zip, that supposedly had these drivers, well i go through the installer for it, but it never install the drivers, i cant point device manager, this is the only one where the installer doesnt work at all .. i mean it finishes, but i dont know where it puts the inf of the drivers or what, .. ugh it really shouldnt be this much of a thing to get the card to work in 2k i wouldnt think ... well thanks in advance .. [edit] Ok, I installed off the original CD, i installed EVERYTHING, all that LiveWare stuff, which i dont want, and it works now, i get my 5.1 .. I guess the preset thing fixed it, my question now is, Can I get this to work WITHOUT installing any of the LiveWare stuff? its kinda bloatware, is it a registry thing? [/edit]
