Is it OK to stop the DNS Server (or even uninstall it) on a domain controller? This is not the only one domain controller, there are some more DC's in that domain.

May be the problem is not on your computer? May be corporate firewall makes it impossible to use these ports, of course if your comp is on the LAN

1. Update your Windows at WindowsUpdate site 2. If the 1. didn't work then download autoruns from sysinternals.com and explore all apps and dll's that "hangs" upon explorer

Got standalone machine with Windows XP SP1 on it. There is also scanner UMAX Astra 2000P. The problem is that only Members of Power Users group or higher (Administrators etc.) could work with that scanner. Otherwise, under account that belongs to Users group there is a message that scanner couldn't be found or something like that. So, is there any way to let common users work with scanner under their Users accounts? Thanx to everybody who answered

2Christianb: I've tried to install drivers for UMAX Astra under that user account but the drivers wouldn't setup until I add this user to Power Users group. After that, I deleted this user from Power Users group and tried to scan something under his account. The problem remains

After installing SP3 on Win2k Server with SP2 on reboot I got this message: "NTLDR not found". And nothing could be done: neither FIXBOOT nor FIXMBR from recovery console helped. Recovery from diskettes didn't fix the problem too. The machine was a DC (domain controller). No specific applications. Only Win2K. I tried again - reinstalled Win2k with SP2 and then SP3. after a few reboots I got the same message: "NTLDR not found". ;( Please help, who knows what's the problem. Thanx

Gone property sheet for folders (right click on folder --> Property) under Windows XP Pro 8). For Drives and files - everything is OK, but not for folders. Thank U.

U see there's nothing to do in gpedit.msc - everything in User & Computer configurationiot is "Not configured"!

I noticed that context menu for any folder couldn't be called For files and drives - everything is all right. I'm the only Admin on my comp. All other family members are Users. What has happened and HowTo repair this Thanx to everybody willin' to help

Well Iwasn't exact. I meant the property window (selected from the context menu) doesn't appears for folder(s), butdoes appear for files or drives.

I've encrypted some of my files with EFS in Windows XP. Then, after reinstalling Windows XP I (of course) can't access my info. What can I do to recover (decode) these files. Thanx everyone who can help!

After upgrading our PDC (Primary domain controller) running Windows NT 4.0 Server to Windows 2000 Server I've got a "little" problem with client machines running Windows 2000 Professional: they could log on , they see the hole network but when trying to browse any machine in that network the following error message appears: "No logon servers are currently available for netlogon services". Our network contains both NT 4 workstations and Windows 2000 Pro. There are also 2 more servers running Win2k Server - they even COULDN'T log on into the domain 8) . Please, help.

Thank U Clutch!!! I've solved this problem. The problem was in wrong bindings for TCP/IP & Netbeui protocols.

Every time I try to install IE 6.0 on Win2k Pro I've got that error message: "Copy error: Setup cannot copy a file <filename> ... Make sure thelocation specified below iscorrect " and so on . The location is correct! The access rights are correct too (for me - admin and for SYSTEM). What's the matter. Please, help! P.. Such problem occures when the systemI'minstalling IE is not clean - some apps are already installed.
