Greetings,
First of all , try to give a clear background,
Be more specific , you cant send file(s) through icq (( icq (win) | (gaim/licq/kopete (linux) )))
() If you cant send from win it could be the firewall , for linux also.No clue, just give more information
Plus from where from / to ... ? win <-> linux or in general ?

Greetings,
Don't mention "pings" , just say you need to configure your LAN instead of that while you state your problem
Now,
You also want to share InternetConnection/n' serious stuff or just to configure succesfully your LAN ?
If yes , ( you said winXP/linux and viceversa ? )
Try to configure your Ethernet card , via DHCP on linux
(You know ip static or auto via DHCP | (((Host/Domain)NAME)/DNS) )
Or viceversa via DHCP on win and see where you go from there
| domainname | dnsdomainname | nodename | hostname | or whatever to make sure everything's in order

Greetings,
Configure LAN/FWall/shared folders n' stuff
() Note that you have to be cautious if you want to R/W while under linux to another partition ( better let that R/O(it IS possible but not recommended) )
|su root | mount -t smbfs -o username=TheUserName | (prompt for passwd will appear after that ( if necessary )) | //ComputerName/SharedFolder /mnt/TheMountPoint
As for within XSession ( try with konqueror or whatever )
Hope that's what you wanted

Greetings,
What you wanna hear ? The truth or something sweet ?
If you want the sweet : Check your disk , otherwise :
here it goes :
I think your drive's about to go ...
(As you said , you've already checkd within the bios/cables/IDE) So...
() It could be something that has to do with DMA though , i dont know for sure ,
su root | hdparm -d /dev/hdb1 ( hdb1 aint that one ? ) Check the DMA mode also , ( man hdparm )

Greetings,
SuSE9.0Pro
I've noticed that while rcacpid status : running ,
Within /etc/X11/XF86Config , within section Mod , there's no
Load "dri" , so every time i try to enable 3D , i can get 3D to work succesfuly , but then something's wrong , as a *conflict* and the LID e/o BUTTON aint working no more.
So , when 3D==enabled LID/BUTTON==OFF and viceversa , when 3D==disabled LID/BUTTON==ALLRIGHT
I've also noticed that only battery's okay,so , ac/battery/thermal/processor seems to not bother with that dri ...
Any ideas ? I'll try to deal with it but i dont know from where to start

Greetings,
I dont think that he/she did something in order to ovveride /etc/inittab | ::3/::5 ,
The only thing that may did that and instead of X you get console is an updated XFree so it messed up with the config files

Greetings,
Very true ,
If you want to play games get a psx or have another desktop/laptop with windows ( or dual boot ) installed in order to play games
And keep linux for the use you want ,
I think of linux under development and i dont think that we will get great perfomance in games at least same or better than windows ( quake3 btw rocks in linux & frozen bubble rules )
In other words,
windows=game ( cause you have everything with an OK button ) you watch some dvds , you play a game , chat on the irc etc and you just waste your time,so windows is waste of time for me
linux=OS,in sense that in order to go well with it you'll need some *universal knowledge* i can state it ? With linux you dont waste your time while you do with windows,at least if you waste it you learn more n' more while with windows you were just learning few AUTO steps
(Windows=Click install,next,next,...,next*(n)times and you're set , linux=next?what's that?No buddy,you need to understand how it works,you go deeper,Compile,solve Dependencies etc)
() Think of the resources as well.Get a good look at how linux works and windows and you'll see what i mean, take dvdrip for example, with windows your whole system halts and that's the only job you can do while with linux only the ~10% is wasted to do so
The rest i leave it to you

Greetings,
Keep in mind that if you want to work with windows as well to always have the 1st partition ( if there are 2 partitions and you have windows/linux separated in these 2 ) free in order to can easily reinstall windows w/o creating any problems
In other words , linux 2nd windows 1st (partition) in the same disk
Now in case you have 2 hdd's , each to an OS and no worries at all, just some configurations and you're set ( bootloader to load windows and viceversa )

Greetings,
Before you make any permanent changes within your bootloader's conf file you can try :
su root|grub|reboot
when grub appears you ( with all you've heard before from the other guy)
root (hd0,x)
setup(hd0,x)
*kernel=/boot/vmlinuz
*initrd=/boot/initrd
chainloader (hd0,x)+1 ( or +21 +22 ) and check if you can load windows
You know,the manual way

Greeetings,
You can try with rpm -e k_defltXXX.rpm --nodeps ( same for it's source )
Otherwise
ls /usr/src/ and rm the old ones ( proceed with caution )
you need to make sure about modules as well , be cautious with the <M> during your kernel's configuration as well
Check /lib/modules ( caution with these )
As for the menu you can easily get rid of the options you dont need by reconfiguring your boot Loader, check /etc/sysconfig/ as well

Greetings,
with reiserFS ? Here's some info to avoid future possible problems :
Windows was first linux 2nd ?
If yes you have a problem reinstalling windows ,
Let me explain
Windows wants to stay front and in case you did something in that partition ( let's say you have 2 , 1st for windows 2nd for linux with reiserFS) i dont think you'll have problems at all , just you need to reinstall windows and then reconfigure your bootLoader
Otherwise if you went through some wild stuff you cant resize your reiserFS easily so you can get back your 1st partition in order to get windows installed and you have to backup everything if you want to be sure and proceed with caution
Get gnuparted or pqmagicXP ( in case you need reSizing)
(fdsik /mbr to get your default window, then you need Bdisk and reconfiguration of your boorLoader)

Greetings,
It's related as fas as you get error msgs
But in your case i dont think so, it's something else , that you dont get any messages , the init is currently 5 and you still come up to console
That's due to an updated xfree i guess ?

Greetings,
Try AUDACITY to convert
( You open an existing mp3/ogg or anything and you can export n' stuff )
If you mean to burn mp3's from your hdd ( as you used to do with nero in win ) then you should try xcdroast , i'm not sure if that's implemented yet though ( to drag n' drop mp3's ) and make an CDA

Greetings ,
Who has not enough knowledge of up[censored] and stuff and in general with linux i suggest not to
try up[censored] XFree , at least he/she could try with rpm from his/her distro which is more safe
that way , otherwise you get changes such as /etc/inittab switching init 5 to init 3 , fonts , mouse cursors and other boot related things.
As a matter of fact you could try get the xfree that suits you and when you 'sh Xinstall.sh' guides you through the installation and tries to make it easier by proposing the more suitable selection.
Take your pick , i leave it to you ...
At least make backups X11-X11R6 and give it a try , a try worths it

Greetings ,
Check http://rpm.pbone.net
And seek a)lopster , b)edonkey (2000) ( Which a server thing must be done with couple of configurations ) c)imule
Keep in mind that helping warez by sharing is lame& illegal and p2p is not pretty safe for your box.
That's all
I guess that might help
GoodLuck

hEHEH ,
Hi
-
Greetings ,
Up[censored] to the newer version of xfree will solve that also , so you can either make the steps i've told you before *** either you get the newer version of XFree ,
***** I was just testing that stuff lately and that's why i know for sure
Take your pick... *****
I leave it to you
For SuSE 8.1 pro/per :
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.sus...3.0-SuSE/suse81
Or http://www.xfree86.org ( and get into trouble )
*** init 3 | When 3 reached ---> CTRL-C | vim ( or any other editor ) /etc/X11/XF86Config|
add the line ---> Option "CrtScreen" within your display section | ESC+wq! to save n' exit
(vim) | switch to init 5 ( you get your login screen within X ) otherwise , CTRL-C and
startX. ( Within your X session _--> open konsole and : mk_initrd and reboot )
You may need to exec SuseConfig as well. That' depends on you , what you want to do
exactly , Good Luck

Greetings,
Get the
1) stable kernel ( if you use <=2.4.19 ) , 2) Acpi patch , 3) ospmd ,
4) swsusp
5 ) Patch the kernel with all that
6 ) su root | cd /usr/src/LINUX/ | make menuconfig | *** *** , load alternative config ( So that way you wont lose the default config of your current compiled kernel , as for <M> <*>
7 ) Make your changes about acpi/APM , ( Try to keep only the main Advanced Power Management and not the ones within , so only the ACPI ones , all of'em not the CPU enumerator only )
8 )Save your changes
9 )exit
10 ) make bzImage clean **modules**( or make dep ) = make bzImage | make clean | make modules
***Hint*** Learn to save/load alternative configurations , in the near future it may save you from lots of troubles
** Keep in mind that by making modules , you need to install them so if something goes wrong don't you worry you can get'em back by rpm -ivh --nodeps k_defltXXX.rpm and removing k_deflt , k_source
11 ) make modules install
12 A( ) GRUB/LILO ?
A )GRUB : just (1) type GRUB | (2) root (hd0,X) | (3)setup (hd0,X)
(4) reboot | (5) mk_initrd ( you get that way your splash screen back as well
() If you get a kernel panic due to VFS etc , make sure you've checked either as <*> either as <M> within your kernel's configuration ( and it's reiserFS ) the reiserFS support , and if <M> you must make modules install otherwise you need'em as (included in your kernel instead)
another : the scsi emulation if you're on laptop and your combo is the new ones which emulates scsi and sure to check which ones you got as <M> and <*> So If you checkd all that just try :
within your grub's prompt
root (hd0,X) | setup (hd0,X) | kernel=/boot/vmlinuz | initrd=/boot/initrd | chainloader (hd0,X)+1 ( try +21 if +1 doesnt work ) | boot ( you should get your boot menu and keep going with the boot process )
() (hd0,X) ie : (hd0,1)
