    Weird mp3 problem!!!

Is the .mp3 extension associated with Winamp? i.e., when you double click an mp3, it plays in Winamp? If yes, go into WinAmp options, preferences (ctrl-p) and click on file types. There you can choose the file icon and playlist icon for all of your mp3 files and playlists. It might take a reboot for it to show correctly.

Or, rather, you should be given a choice of NTFS or FAT32 because it is smaller than 32 gigs. Sorry, was thinking 40.

Partitions formatted with FAT can only be a maximum of 2 gigs. FAT32 can be larger, but Windows 2000 setup limits new partitions to 32 gigs. Larger ones, it only allows NTFS. When seeing the partition screen in Windows setup, make sure you delete all partitions first, so you see your full 40 gigs of unpartitioned space. Then create a partition, and it should let you make it to the full size, minus 8 megs for the boot partition or whatever it feels like doing with it. Then, when you try to install on the newly partitioned space it should format it with NTFS for you. I'm not quite sure why it would limit it to FAT. Hope this helps.

    Desktop that no longer refreshes

I'm not quite sure when this started happening, but when I delete something or move something on my desktop, nothing will change until i manually refresh it. Irq problem on windows 2000pro

If you do re-install win2k, dont install the service pack at first. I really don't know if it has anything to do with it, but after reading through these posts, it seems that a number of people (including myself) have had all different, almost random problems upon installing SP2. Just a suggestion.
  7. Ah. That did it. It was set for PIO only. I set it for DMA and it never happens. Thanks.
  8. I just got this Sony 16x DVDrom and everything seemed to go well, until one time I looked and it just wasn't there in My Computer. That computer management program that comes with Win2k saw it, but said it was disconnected or something. Is there something I can do to fix this? When I boot the machine up with no cd in the drive everything is fine, so its not a big deal, just kind of annoying.

    More IE5.5 troubles

I am not sure if IE5 did this before installing SP2 or what, but whenever I click on a link that is supposed to open a new browser window (such as a link in hotmail), nothing happens. Actually, if I right click on any link and say open link in new window, the same lack of action occurs. Also, on some program setup files (adobe acrobat for example), I go to run the setup.exe, and nothing happens. This has only occurred on my new machine running win2k SP2, and I am sure its not the program, because identical instances occur with many setup files, and they have worked before. Anyone know what the deal is? ;(
