  1. Hello there, I have P4 (800 MHz FSB, 1MB L2), 512MB Dual Channel DDR and QDI P4I865PENovo Motherboard with Onboard ALC655 6 Channel CODEC (20-bit Stereo Codec, S/PDIF header onboard, Support Dolby Digital AC-3 audio). I am runnind Windows XP SP2, I have installed FFDSHOW and AC3 Filter. So I hooked up my SPDIF output to my Yamaha reciever via Coaxial cable. Then I set in my AC97 Audio Configuration SPIF output to "Digital Only". Now I can hear music playing, Yamaha says that the music is comming from digital coaxial input and everything is fine to this point. But the music playback is interrupted (silenced) for a secong or maybe two every three to ten seconds. It looks something like this if I try to draw it - 1 is normal music playback for one second and 0 is one second silence: 11101111011111001101100111101111100111100011 Does anybody know why am I experiencing this? I have tried everything to fix this: - Reinstalled WindowsXP, - Changed audio drivers from first to last version, - Changed Motherboard through warrianty support so I get the same vendor and same sound chip... - I have also disabled sound hardware and tried with Creative SB Value and I get the same results... - I shortened Coax cable to 2 meters... ... and nothing helped. I am running out of ideas and my nerves so please, can somebody help me? Thanks, -Andrej
  2. Hi, Thanks for the answer first of all... Well this is just an usual home computer and I would just like to play some music/movies using it... It is not supposed to be anything professional... just for home use... The sound card is nothing special... just some Realtek (ALC655) Audio Codec '97 (AC97)... But it has a S/PDIF, digital out and as it has it, it shuld work as it is supposed to... I also tried playing music over Creative sound board, but the playback was the same... The normal, analog audio is playing without any problem... Thanks again, -Andrej

Pentium D or EE under XP 64

Hello there... I am buying a new PC and would like to know if Intel Pentium D and Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition are supporting feature Windows XP 64 and Windows Vista Operating systems... For now I can run Windows XP on it but since the days of XP64 and Vista are comming I would also like to be able to run it on my new system. Both CPUs are supporting IntelĀ® Extended Memory 64 Technology that "Provides flexibility for future applications that support both 32-bit and 64-bit computing" but I would like to know what this really means... and if Vista and XP64 are really going to run on this CPUs... Thanks, -Andrej
  4. Hello there! Does anyone know why explorer.exe once or twice (or maybe even more times) a day starts eating up 100% (actually 95%) of my CPU and arround 400MB or my Memory? Usually it happens randomly when I am browsing the net or My Computer... And when it happens the computer respondig times are really high so I need to kill the process and when I run it (explorer.exe) again everything is fine till the next time. So what shuld I do? Thanks and regards,
  5. Hello there, I am new to VPN so I have a question: I need to make an VPN connection to VPN server computer which is located in my 'home' network. MS ISA Server computer (gateway) sends VPN requests to VPN Server and everything works fine. I am connected to my 'home' VPN computer and I am able to access its resources (shares, printers, remote desktop, ...) My question is how can I access resources on other computers in this 'home' network - like shares on my working computer? LAN is on 192.160.0.xxx WAN adapter is on 192.168.1.1 VPN assigns IPs from 192.168.5.100-110 The remote computers from where I usually make VPN connections to my VPN computer is usually on 192.168.0.xxx. I tried to change assiging IPs on VPN computer from 192.168.0.100-110, so it sometimes worked when I tried to VPN on it and access my home workstation which is on 192.168.0.5, but since two adapters really cant be on the same subnet I think this is bad idea and I am looking for beter solution. Thanks. Oh and VPN computer is running Windows 2003 Standard as ISA server computer ('gateway') is. Have a nice time,
  6. Hello there, My CD/RW aways claims that it has an empty medium inserted. No matter if there is or is not a disc in. I can boot WindowsXP instalation from this CD/RW - so it is not broken. It 'stopps' working when WindowsXP are loaded. What shuld be the problem? I have deleted CD/RW and apropriate IDE Channel from Device manager, rebooted and the controler and CD/RW were newly discovered but the problem was still the same... What else can I do?

Cd rom shows Disc is blank

Hi, Well Device Manager doesnt show any exclamation marks near my CD-RW... But I guess there's some kind of drivers problem... Since CD drivers are integrated in Windows I am not really shure about how to change them. I tried to choose different CD-RW manofacturer, seemed like Windows reinstalled my CD but the problem remained... Windows are showing blank CD in my drive although it is not inserted... Weird... Thanks and good luck, -Andrej

  9. Hello there... What is the difference between - \\domain\sharedfolder and - \\computername\sharedfolder where domain is Windows 2003 server domain and computername is the name of the same computer... When I am trying to access shared folder over \\domain I can't get the access: Quote: --------------------------- Download --------------------------- \\domain\sharedfolder is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- When everything works okay if I try to access the resource over \\computername\sharedfolder Everything is the same if I am logged on to the domain or if I am not... Folder has the following users set to "Full Control": - Administrators - Creator owner - Domain Users - Domain Admins - Everyone - SYSTEM - Users I can see all the shares through \\domain\, I just can't access them... And I wonder why... Thanks, -Andrej
  10. Hello there... I have set up a Windows 2003 server and since everything is working really slow on that box I nticed that all Devices (0 and 1) on both IDE Channels (Primary and Secondary) are currently set to PIO Mode. But under Transfer mode I have selected DMA if available. Does anyone know why is Current Transfer Mode always set to PIO mode then? Thanks, have a nice day,

    DU Meter maybe? www.dumeter.com -Andrej
  12. Hello... I am sorry I am asking this question here since it is not Windows related but I don't really know where to ask. I am buying a Notebook, so: What is Intel Pentium-M Centrino? Why are Centrino Pentiums working at much lower frequencies (1.4GHz and so on)? And final: What is better: Intel Pentium-M Centrino 1400Mhz or Intel Pentium IV 2.800Mhz? With 'better' I mostly mean 'faster'. Thanks and have a good day all of you. -Andrej
  13. Thanks for your answers... Since I somehow need more power than battery I will buy 2.8Ghz P4 laptop... And ill also buy some wireless pcmcia because it is not built in... Now I somehow understand what Centrino is... cool.. -Andrej
  14. Hello there! I have replaced my old Network Card and since then the new one uses IRQ 9 - PNP assigned it and now my computer works extremely slow when I am transfering long files... By this and some other reasons I need to change IRQ for this Network Card - How do I do that? In Device Manager's card properties there is everything grayed - so where can I change it? Thanks, -Andrej

  17. Hi there... Does anyone know why is my Windows XP Welcome Screen always telling me that I have "2 unread mail messages"? I mean - I have absolutely downloaded all my email messages in Outlook XP and I am absolutely sure that there is no message marked as "unread"... but still - every time I see my Welcome Screen (after Reboot, after Logoff, after Locking the machine) I see" 2 unread mail messages" message beside my username... Thanks,
  18. Gee thanks... This is great...
  19. Hello... How do I disable ICS to a certain computer in my network? Thanks,
  20. Hi It happened for me too, when I was using Lavasoft's Ad-watch 3.0 (it came with Ad-aware 6.0) so I usually closed it before shutting down my computer.... Check your running processes in Task Manager and try to find out if something (some process) blocks your shutdown/restart procedure when it is terminated... Good luck, -Andrej
  21. Hi! Hehe the best is formatting your drives with Windows Disk Management and putting NTFS File System on your drives... Okay back to reality: You shuld try to Defragment both of your drives with Disk Defragment tool under Computer Management (Administrative Tools)... Or you can download a free eval copy of Diskeeper on www.executive.com and defragment your drives with that tool. Your shuld also check your drive for errors (CHKDSK X: /F /X where X: is either your C or D drive...) Hmmm next thing you shuld check is what DMA mode is your drive using for data transfers: Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers -> Primary IDE Channel (and Secondary IDE Channel) -> Advanced Settings -> Transfer Mode - make sure its DMA if avaliable... Current Transfer Mode shuld be Ultra DMA mode 2-5 Well and make sure you are using 80-Conductor cabe connecting your HDD(s) to your Motherboard... Wish you a lot of luck...
  22. Hello there! I am Sharing DSL Internet Connection with Windows 2000 Professional... And everything works fine on other Windows XP box (www, ftp, ...) BUT everytime I try to send out an email it timeouts the mail server. I can recieve emailsbut I can't send them out. Does anyone know why? My configuration: Windows 2000: - LAN1: to DSL modem + ICS to LAN2 - LAN2: to Windows XP box Thanks,
  23. Hello there! I am kinda new with Windows .NET and I have some questions: -(1)- Is Windows .NET more like Windows 2000 Server or more like Windows XP? -(2)- Is it possible to logon more than one user locally? I mean I can lock the machine like in Windows NT/2000 (so its ususable for other users) but I can't switch users like in Windows XP. So is it possible to leave one user's session alone and login as a different user? -(3)- Is it possible to disconnect and leave your remote session for next access? I mean when I remotely connect to my .NET server I can't disconnect my session, all I can do is Logoff or Shutdown. So I can't connect to my server, start some tasks and disconnect (what in Windows 2000 server is possible)... -(4)- Is it possible to leave internet connection alive when you logoff from .NET server? Because when I logon to my server, make an internet connection to my DSL provider and when I logoff, the connection is killed. So if i remotely connect to my server, make an internet connection and because I can't disconnect the session, when I logoff, internet conection is simply killed. So the only way to leave my internet connection alive is to logon *locally* to my server, make a connection and lock the machine. And machine is locally unusable, what is not so good... -(5)- Is it really not possible to run VPN server and ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) together? Okay thanks for everyting...
  24. Hello there, Recently I bought ATA100 RAID Controller (Dawicontrol DC-100 UDMA-100 controller with Highpoint chip "HPT370") so I striped my two 80GB Seagate HDD drives in one 160GB Array. Now in my case data blocks are written inteleaved between 2 disk drives, so the performance shuld be nearly doubled... BUT the performance is actually really bad. I mean everything works so slow, much slower than before when my two HDDs were connected to primary master and primary slave IDE controller. I reinstalled my WindowsXP with no luck... It still takes ages (for exaple to copy something from one partition to another and when I am copying something everything else works really slow, for example I hardly open my email client when another application is accessing HDD at the same time. Does anyone know what shuld I try to do? Any tips and tricks? I know it shuld work faster... My configuration is: - BIOS Setting Utility on my RAID card is version 2.31 (and can't be flashed to newer version), - WindowsXP Drivers are version 2.34 (also tried 2.31 since same versions are recommended but with no luck) - ATA RAID Management Software is version 2.31 - My HDDs are connected: - one to primary master and another to secondary master on RAID controller (as it is said in User's Manual) - My CD-ROM and DVD-ROM are connected to Primary and Secondary Master on IDE controller - My CPU is Intel Pentium III 800EB Mhz - My Mainboard is ASUS CUSL2-C (Black Pearl) - 512MB RAM, ... Thanks,
