    ICQ acting wery strange.

Hello. I really had no trouble with it in Windows 2000... It worked very well... I have no troubles with frozen ICQ status and incoming events icon. The only thing is since I am using DialUp intenret connection, ICQ can't find out when I am going offline, so Internet detection agent won't start... Okay I can live with that but I hope the new version will be free of those problems... -Andrej

Is there any good alternative to Mirabillis ICQ Client? I need something that supports SMS sending... Hehe because I hate to send SMSs at ntsms or something (don't like all this logon stuff)...

    XP Style of 'My Computer'

Hello there. I have a question about icon (or devices) organisation in my computer. When I installed my Windows XP RC2, devices in my computer were organized by device type - I mean in the first line there was shared folders, in second line was all my hard disks (non-removable devices) in third line I think there was all removable devices and in the last line all the scanners and digital cameras... Every type of devices were separated by the line showing devices type and so on... But now - I don't know how - My Computer is organized like in Windows 2000... Does anyone know how to bring the XP style of My Computer back? Thanks.

    Firewall (ICF) Question

Hello there... hehe I beleve there's many people asking the question I asked startinng this thread. There is an answer I get from MS support volunteer: ------------------------------------- Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.beta.network-web Message-ID: <#fHHU$QJBHA.1952@tkmsftngp04> Path: tkmsftngp01!tkmsftngp04 Xref: tkmsftngp01 microsoft.public.windowsxp.beta.network-web:2493 ------------------------------------- From: "Andrej Snedic" <iks@email.si> Subject: Firewall (ICF) Question Date: 15. avgust 2001 0:24 Hello. Somewhere under "How Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) works" in some Helpfile I read that: "All inbound traffic from the Internet is compared against the entries in the table." So there IS a table with definitions of what can go and what can't go through the firewall... Does anyone know where can I find that table, and how can I edit it? My problem is that the firewall won't let the IRC to get through because it uses port (6660-6669) which is 'not allowed' So I'd like to add the IRC service definiton to that table and it may work okay... Can anyone help me, please? I am out of ideas... Thanks... ---------- From: "Kent W. England" <kwe@mvps.org> Subject: Re: Firewall (ICF) Question Date: 15. avgust 2001 2:14 Under the Advanced Settings on the Services tab, you will find a list of pre-defined "exceptions" that the ICF will allow through. You can add one for IRC. Note that the examples shown only map one port at a time. You might try to enter a port range such as "6660-6669" to see if that works. Otherwise, you need to create an entry for each port. Set the internal and external port numbers to be the same. You might be able to set IRC to use fewer ports to make configuring ICF easier. Note that Windows Messenger knows how to add its own entries to ICF. -- Kent W. England, MS MVP for Windows Networking ---------- From: "Andrej Snedic" <iks@email.si> Subject: New: Firewall (ICF) Question Date: 15. avgust 2001 15:02 Thanks for your answer. I have already created such entries in my ISP/Properties/Advanced/Settings... I created a rule: Description: IRC Name or IP address: irc.myisp.com (I also tried it's IP) External Port: 6669 (actually i need only this Port) Internal Port: 6669 (same as External Port) I tried to check both: TCP and UDP and still without any luck... But if if I turn my ICF off, it works all fine... so there's a problem with my ICF... Thanks, -Andrej ---------- From: "Kent W. England" <kwe@mvps.org> Subject: Re: Firewall (ICF) Question Date: 15. avgust 2001 20:11 Andrej; ICF is designed to be used with the ICS router module. You need to enter your own IP address in the address box, not the address of the source, when you are using ICF in stand-alone fashion. -- Kent W. England, MS MVP for Windows Networking ---------- From: "Andrej Snedic" <iks@email.si> Subject: Firewall (ICF) Question, again Date: 16. avgust 2001 1:38 Thanks for the answer again. In my small network my XP computer is also an internet gateway so I set IP to my computer: 192.168.0.1... The first computer near me is 192.168.0.2 and so on... Under "Name or IP address" I typed IP of computer near me: 192.168.0.2 and the IRC worked fine on that computer... But it still won't work on my XP computer if I use my IP or my computer name as IP address under advanced ICF settings... Thanks again, -Andrej Snedic ---------- From: "Kent W. England" <kwe@mvps.org> Subject: Re: Firewall (ICF) Question, again Date: 16. avgust 2001 5:28 Well then it must be that these settings don't work unless used with ICS. But I would try using the external adapter IP address before giving up. -- Kent W. England, MS MVP for Windows Networking ---------- That's all I hope it works for you.

    Slow Network

Hello. My LAN is working very slow... I mean if I drag a file to other comouter's folder (e.g.: \\comp2\c\temp) it takes around 30 seconds until it starts copying my file to that network location. And when I choose to print with my network printer (\\comp2\HP) it also takes a while when it finds the printer... My box is: WinXP RC2, 256 megs of ram, PentiumIII class proc, ... And the other box is: WinME, 128 megs if ram, Duron 700MHz proc, ... Does anyone have any solution to my problem? Thanks.
