Install an app as a service?

Back in Win2k, I used FireDaemon, which doesn't currently work on XP, but there's supposed to be an update really soon. http://www.firedaemon.com/

    RAM Leaking

Bring up the task manager and you can sort your processes by memory usage. That should help to clear things up as to what is hogging up all the memory.

Best DVD player software for XP?

PowerDVD XP 4.0 is definitely the best one out there. If you look hard enough, you can find it already, otherwise it'll be out in November. -- Pablo Macouzet Jr http://www.kingnothing.com

WinXP Pro : How to login as 'Administrator'?

Use TweakUI, included in the WinXP PowerToys. There's a logon section, and an option to show or hide the Administrator (or any other) account. -- Pablo Macouzet Jr http://www.kingnothing.com

    norton ghost+activation

Windows uses the serial numbers of your hardware to identify it. Even if you use the same type of hardware, your serial numbers will be different. See Fully Licensed explanation -- Pablo Macouzet Jr http://www.kingnothing.com

    Sound Card goes Mute

I am considering a new card, but I just finished dishing out $350 for my mobo, chip, and RAM upgrade and it's a pretty big hit on a non-working college student budget. I was considering the Live 5.1 card, but I have read about some problems with sound crackling, etc. with the VIA KT133A chipset which my mobo has. I'm not looking for a feature-rich card, just one that offers digital output, so I'm thinking about the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

    Sound Card goes Mute

I have a Turtle Beach Montego II sound card that came with my old Dell. Windows 2000 and Windows XP both detect it as "Aureal Vortex 8830 Audio (WDM)". The card works fine in Windows 2000 and is detected under Windows XP, but it goes mute about 10 seconds into whatever sound it is playing and i have to restart Windows to get any sound out of it, only for the same thing to happen again. I'm running an Athlon 1400 with an ABIT KT7A mobo and 640 MB RAM. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks. Pablo pablo@kingnothing.com

    Recommended Sound Card for XP

I'm looking for a new sound card that has Windows XP drivers, allows me to hook it up to my Dolby Digital/DTS receiver (I have no computer speakers, the computer is hooked up to the receiver only), and provide a Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS signal to my receiver from my DVD player on my computer. I've been trying to figure it out on my own, but most of the cards mention hooking them up to 5.1 computer speakers, which i don't have unless you count the ones out of my receiver, and I don't know if they would support DTS output. Any receommendations? Thanks.

    Sound card with DTS

I am looking for a sound card with either a DTS decoder built in, or that will send the DTS signal to my receiver via digital coax or optical output. I already get Dolby 5.1 output through my ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon, but I want to be able to experience DTS without having to buy a standalone DVD player. Anyone know if such a product exists? Thanks.

    DSL and faxmodems

I'll be getting DSL this fall and I understand it works through standard phone lines. I do a lot of faxing using WinFax, and I was wondering if the 56k modems will still work through the DSL phone lines. Any help would be appreciated.

    XP Product Activation

If you install and activate XP, then make an image of your HD using Norton Ghost without adding any hardware, will you still have to re-activate?

    Router vs Hub

Can someone explain to me the difference between a hub and a router? I have two computers hooked up to my cable modem through a hub. What advantages/disadvantages would a router bring? Thanks in advance.

    Removing attachments for OE mail

I don't know about OE, but in Outlook, you can remove the attachment by opening the mail message, right-clicking on the attachment, and selecting "remove" out of the drop down menu.
