Adobe Acrobat (5.0) and Photoshop (6.0.1)

Remember one thing every time you upgrade an operating system. Always check for all the little or minor patches to programs on their websites after upgrading. The most annoying thing is most likely you will have to uninstall the program reboot, reinstall the program and when prompted to reboot choose no. Then apply the patch and then reboot. This is the safest method and will avoid all conflicts. Since I have both of these programs myself I know that they have patches for both ie: Acrobat 5.05 and Adobe 6.01 or 6.02. Unfortunatley the patches are rather large so don't get distracted they are worth the wait. I am running them on XP Pro without a glitch. Shoe

    Problem with camcorder and Firewire

I had the same problem with my PC when I first got my camera and I did not have the proper updates. Most likely your laptop will not have these updates installed. The first update I will send to you if you give me your email address. This updates your capture capabilities with the firewire port and stops all freezing up problems. The second is you should use tha latest version of video program that you use because they are written around the updated architecture in the firewire ports. I use Ulead Video Studeo 5 and its as solid as a rock when you add there first update. I would highly recommend it since its cheap and if your starting out its not too intimi[censored]. Third always, always, always have the camera plugged in to the port and powered up and in vcr mode before you turn on the laptop and boot up. Firewire ports are not like usb in that they don't always retain all functions properly if you just plug in like a usb. Think of them as a small scsi port that you would put a printer in and it will make sense. I followed all these steps that a store rep reccommended and I have been making great video's with the camera. Also if you can afford it get youself a 10 gig scsi drive (doesn't have to be the latest greatest) and have that drive only for video capture. A scsi drive is insurance for no missed frames when capturing as long as after you capture you defrag the drive. I captured to a fast IDE partion and even with the fastest IDE drive I lost frames due to sectors dedicated to programs on that drive. So save yourself aggrivation and capture the right way and you will have no problems . As for the MS movie maker consider that complete garbage marketing ploys to compete with Machintoshes accomplisments in video capture.

    Direct X 6.0 for NT 4?

I believe NT is never going to support Direct X because thats why it automattically partions your harddrive so that things like Direct X can't access the C. Trust me alot of people in my office loaded to the C and eventually they get the BSD's that end up in reformatting the hard drive.

    Whistler Application Compatibility Toolkit

I would greatly appreciate it if you could send a working link or the file to me in my email. The standard W2k compatibility tool does not work at all in fact it sucks bad and I would welcome anything better. Thank You ShoemakerPom shoemakerpom@netreach.net

    Two Mice On One Computer

Thanks alot Down8 your idea has fixed the problem. Just so everybody knows if you install a second mouse to the USB port and you shut down the machine and take out the mouse that was on the PS2 port and reboot so the only mouse on is the USB all you need to do to get both working at the same time is shut down once more recconnect the PS2 mouse and boot up you will see that both mice can live in harmony although both mice will react to the speed set of the USB mouse but thats nothing bad. Again thanks alot Down8 you just made my day. ShoemakerPom

    Two Mice On One Computer

Thats strange because I have the same mouse and when I installed it to the USB it took over. Maybe service pack 2 does have an effect but I hope there is some other way. I will try taking out the PS2 mouse rebooting then putting in the PS2 and rebooting and seeing if that affects it. Thanks for replying you gave me an idea to try. Shoemakerpom

    Easy CD Creator 5 Platanium

First of all did you buy that copy of CD Creator 5 or did you get it from somebody else. Either way you have a beta copy on your hands and you can't install fixes to a beta I know because I first had a beta and had the same exact problem. You need to download the Retail version and then install the 5.1 fix and remember to not install taketwo in W2k or it will give you blue screen and then you will have to uninstall it in safe mode. I have not got the direct CD module to work correctly in W2k and for me it does not matter I don't use it anyway but otherwise I have no problems with the software working and I have seen an increase in burn speed since I installed it so don't listen to all the negative advice try it yourself first you might like it. WIN2K problem with SB live!

If you haven't done so already go ahead and get service pack 2 from microsoft it fixes all kinds of problems including the Sound Blaster Live issue. Trust me I have fixed many computers in the office with this problem with the W2k Service pack 2. I just wish microsoft would focus more on fixes than pumping out new OS's with problems. Shoemakerpom

    Two Mice On One Computer

I have this new cordless keyboard that I got from work and it has a scroll ball and two buttons that function as a mouse. My problem is that I would like to have the keyboard (that takes up both PS2 keyboard/mouse) and have my regular mouse on the USB (this is the mouse my wife prefers). My problem is that the instillation of the keyboard/mouse combo goes fine but after I install the regular mouse to the USB and reboot to complete the instillation upon reboot the regular mouse takes over (as if it was the only one istalled) and makes the scrollball mouse not work anymore. Is this an IRQ issue? I am running this on a W2k machine with service pack 2 installed. Any suggestions would help since I am completely lost as to what to do. Thanks ShoemakerPom
