Make Better Looking Windows Icons Windows icons are set to a default of 4 BPP, a simple change to 16 adds depth and color to the icons. Navigate to: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics] and change the Shell Icon BPP from 4 to 16. "Shell Icon BPP"="16" or 32 or 256 whatever you want, 16 is usually more than enough....

This was covered in another post somewhere but the gist of it is that you need to wait for the network(slipstream) version of the service pack to come out; then it will work....

Napalm: If you haven't already done so go to start menu->control panel->sound and multimedia->audio->advanced-performance and set your hardware acceleration to 3/4 or 1/2 setting it to full is a known problem for making aureal cards cut out during heavy cpu usage.... Jope this helps...

I have just finished a huge update to the Win2k Tips & tweaks database; it is in web layout. If anyone has any suggestions to make it more accessible please post.(It has grown quite large)

IE can't find connection on LAN 1st time, but internet works

I was having this same exact problem unitl I checked under Start Menu->Settings->Network and Dial Up Connections Go to local area connections and right click for properties, under the general tab click configure then click advanced, check your settings for link wake up and magic packet wake up, make sure they are set to enabled. This should resolve your problem..... -

I was just wondering if we could get a group effort together to create a comprehensive windows 2000 tips and tweaks database. I have started with a large collection of tips and tweaks that I have organized into a bookmarked pdf file. With everyones input this could turn out to be something worthwhile for the community. I have emailed Philip with what i have done so far. Hopefull he will post it so that people can download it and check it out. If anyone else wants a copy please email me or icq me.
