    64Bit Time!!!

Quote: Seems apple is copying AMD technolgy..... http://www.amdzone.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1296 Quote: Jobs presented on the PowerPC G5 on this Monday the 23rd to an audience that Jobs couldn't disappoint no matter what he did or said. The 64 bit PowerPC 970 designed by IBM, but Apple would like to lead you to believe they spearheaded design. The PowerPC 970 shares many qualities of the Opteron, and you will be certain that no AMD CPU is ever mentioned during Job's presentation. The G5 system takes advantage of HyperTransport which of course is an AMD technology, but AMD was never thanked in Jobs speech. Al Gore, internet creator, was shamelessly trotted out by webcam however. plenty more to read as well. intersting read really seems apple has copied ALOT of PC technology and yet MAC user seem to say the other way around - so right now with that article - all MAC has is it's FireWire which it made, and MAC O/S - to which i do not beleive Apple invented... this is why i was so curious why there were no Opter or AMD chips used in the bench's only intels...... ok. you need a little apple history. first of all the powerpc g5 chip that you see today was part of a long roadmap that apple, motorola and ibm (the aim consortium) made in the early 1990s. yes, apple is a patent holder for the powerpc chip. where was amd in 1990? they were a small hardware vendor making graphics chips for apple! just look at the early powermacs. you will see amd logos at the custom chips that apple designed. so who is learning from who? shame on you for being an ignorant pc user. you will believe anything that you see because youre jealous of the powerpc g5. apple can be credited for many new technologies. not just "firewire". they developed the active matrix display for laptops. they also designed the first trackball used on their powerbook line. apple also invented the trackpad that most laptops use now a days. dont forget quicktime which was used as the template for the mpeg4 standard. you probably have never heard of icc profiles that large companies like sony and epson support. its something that is used for color calibration on platforms that have systemwide color management which windows is not capable of.
  2. I just read that MS plans to sell Office XP on a subscription basis in the near future. I do not think this is fair because the software they make are always full of bugs. People should not have to pay for bug fixes. If they do that then they should put a warning on every box they sell telling people that their software does not work as advertised and you need to subscribe to get the full working version in lets say two years by which there would be a new version out with more bugs to fix.
  3. I just finished talking with Sterling at Monarch Computer regarding the purchase of a Geforce3 video card two days ago. This man is not very professional. When I mentioned to him that other resellers are pricing the same item for much less he went off on a rampage and started badmouthing other resellers saying that they are fly by night operations offering no tech support to complaining that those resellers are using cut throat pricing followed by expletive words. Last time I checked cut throat pricing is good for consumers. And tech support for a component? Since when did resellers offer tech support for a video card by itself? I contacted Sterling because the price of the item on their website has gone down $25 in a matter of day. I still have not received the video card and asked if I can get the price adjusted to reflect the current price. His reply was simply no and the reason why the price was higher two days ago was that Monarch Computers had to pay Nvidia to ship the product overnight last week and they decided to pass their shipping cost to the consumer. That to me is just bad business practice. The cost to ship a product to your warehouse should never be directly passed to the consumer. If anything I know that part of that cost can be a business deductible at the end of the fiscal year. So three days later I still have no video card and I could have bought the item today at their website and have it overnight to my address and still come out saving money. This will be the first and last time I will buy from Monarch Computers.

Applying Colour correction thing to movies

my overlay controls are disabled. i am using nvidia driver 11.01. any ideas on how to enable it again. i think it was enabled in older versions of the detonator drivers.
  6. it is nothing compared to the mac version. thats coming from experience. the windows quicktime player, regular or pro, can only play one video or audio on one window at any given time. the mac version can play multiple video and/or audio on multiple windows at the same time. wish they made the same feature in windows

    Quick RAID question

you can stripe the remaining space that cannot be mirrored so you still get the benefit of raid. albiet it wont have the added security of mirroring but its still fast. just remember: stripe your applications and mirror your data.

    Ultra 2 SCSI Question

first of all what scsi id does the controller have? did your adaptec controller use id 7? if so make the id of those hard drives you are trying to install closer to that number. lets say 5 & 6. and obviously place the faster of the two drives closer to the adaptec card. and place the terminator on the last connector but if you really want to play it safe you should get or make a cable with just the right amount of connectors. air is also a good resistor so you dont want any open connectors on the chain.

    HD problem

I have tried those software solutions before and none of them can recover deleted items unless you already have the program installed at the time of deletion of the file. I suggest you contact the people at www.drivesavers.com to see if they can help you. It might be a bit pricey but if you really have critical data to recover they can help.
  13. I recently upgraded my OS to Win2k and lost my modem's functionality. Win2k simply won't recognize my modem. Has anybody been able to make the USRobotics Model 2977 OEM internal 56k hardware modem to work with Win2k? I have tried installing the drivers manually to no avail. Win2k thinks that the modem is a PCI serial port and nothing else. I tried uninstalling the driver, which shows as other pci device with a question mark icon, in Device Manager and restart to manually install the driver. As soon as I finish installation of the proper driver from USRobotics my computer would freeze. No response, no ability to restart using alt+conrol+delete. I have the modem installed in slot 2 with irq 10 in the BIOS of my Asus A7V mobo. It is sharing irq 10 with the onboard ATA controller. All other slots are occupied so it's not that easy to move things around without causing havoc. ACPI is enabled but the modem is not showing in the list of irq shared. I was able to use the same setup with WinME. Dunno why it won't work in Win2k. Please help.
