No 3D Sound support in XP with SBLive!

Heres the way to get it all working right in RC1. Do not uninstall the drivers included with RC1. Also do not install the LW3 that is for win2k. Instead grab the liveware 5.1 for win2k files off creatives site. Its around 17Mb. These were designed to work with the newer Emu10K1M.sys file version 3300. These versions of the Emu file have solved alot of problem for people in win2k with crackling, lockups, etc and also work in SMP. Once you have the liveware 5.1 then extract the files and run the files like this , example if you installed them to C:\sblive Go to start , run, then type C:\sblive\SBL51.exe /w The /w at the end tells it not to check which version card is installed. When it is installing, you will get a pop-up saying the WDM drivers are not certified, etc. Click STOP installation. This will prevent the RC1 drivers from being overwritten. Then just let it finish and it all should be working. Nothing else needs to be done. I've tried this with RC1 on the very first sblive value and it works great. All features working and you don't need to change any of the drivers installed.

Disabling auto dial once and for all?

You can stop it from doing that if you can find what program is trying to connect to the net. For me it was fax manager. There was a fax that never got sent and every 5-10 minutes it would try to connect to the net to send it. Also when it pops up, there is a button at the bottom that says option, advanced, or properties can't recall exactly. Click that then in the pop up window click disable autodial.
  3. For those complaining about the 56k limit to encoding in WMP8, check the link below. Edit the registry and you can encode much higher. Winsupersite

    WinXP Beta 2 2462 & 3dmark2001 no go

Its not just a winxp issue. I've had 3dmark2001 do the same thing in win98se always at the same spot. I did a clean install of win98se and they reran the test and it ran fine. Now in winxp for me, its doing it again. Always same part, 2nd test, high detail. I'm thinking something in 3dmark2001 is very picky.

Whats yours expirience with IBM hard drives?

I have an ibm drive going on 3 years in just a month or two. Its worked flawlessly all this time, doing video editing, large 4-5gb avi files, erased, written over on a daily basis of 12-15hour times. Been best drive I ever owned. The thing to remember though is that NO harddrive is safe. It can work now and you reboot and it quits. Just remember to keep anything you can't afford to lose always backed up.
