    Frequent crashing!

At one point I was uploading some files, and another I was downloading some, and another I was rendering an animation, at another I was doing a disk defrag, at another I clicked the start menu, and at another I started up the computer. ------------------ Marc Chadwick / Divine Wrath "There are three kinds of people in the world -- Those who can count, and those who can't."

    Strange DivX problem....???

Have you spoken to anyone else who has watched the exact same rip? Odds are its the rip itself. We used to have some Divx rips at work. I remember in particular that happened with a Mission Impossible 2 cam...and it happened there on both computers and here at home, so I'm guessing its rip related. Try getting a different copy.

    Bad 3Com NIC

That's exactly what went through my mind...a split second before the rage of having wasted money hit It is wierd, isn't it? And this is one of the more popular cards too...in fact my school recommends it. At any rate, I have laying around here a SOHOware NIC which I purchased because I needed to install one in these home computers for my family. They're running Win98se here, and the SOHOware NIC supports Win2k. I've read lots of really good things about this company, and was wondering if anyone has any opinions about them before I go ahead and do this? ------------------ Marc Chadwick / Divine Wrath "There are three kinds of people in the world -- Those who can count, and those who can't." 6. I agree. WinME is pretty much trash. My father ran it in his office for some unknown reason, and all it did for him was crash, and give him worse support for his DOS software than Win98se. Before all of you kill me for saying he uses DOS software, understand that he's been using the same software for nearly a decade and the company never saw a need, until very recently, to move out of the DOS environment. In other words, he's got no choice. Either he learns different tax software or he deals with DOS for the time being. Regardless, the entire 9x kernal has been in a downward spiral since it was created. Sure, its a nicer interface than 3.x, but the NT based systems use a very similar one. Only a few differences in the asthetics that really mean anything. So in conclusion, WinME is a step down from an already poor operating system. ------------------ Marc Chadwick / Divine Wrath "There are three kinds of people in the world -- Those who can count, and those who can't."

    Bad 3Com NIC

A warning to any of you who may be in the market for a new NIC -- my favorite 3com NIC isn't supported in win2k. I learned this the hard way. I recently chose to move over to Win2k instead of WinME...something of a spontanious decision after I had already bought my hardware. However, the NIC I had purchased is incompatable. Although the 3Com Fast Ethernet PCI Network Interface Card (Model No. 3CSOHO100-TX) states that it is compatable with all major operating systems, there is no existing driver provided by 3Com for this NIC in on a Win2k system. If you're in the market for a NIC to be run on an NT 4 system, or a system with a 9x kernal, its a great card, but after this my opinion of the entire company had dropped substantially due to their lack of support for one of the biggest Operating Systems in existance. ------------------ Marc Chadwick / Divine Wrath "There are three kinds of people in the world -- Those who can count, and those who can't."
