but I still can't figure out why only some of the movies are not working..I can't find a pattern. Not all of my divx movies are affected by this, only some.

the thing is, I think somewhere I read that servicepack1 for WindowsXP disables playback of movies with certain codecs.

its not working either...not even playa will play it

I just realized that since I installed Servicepack 1, I cannot play certain divx-movies anymore. I checked the videcodecs, tried nimo-codec pack and tsunami, but neither of them did it. The files are not corrupted, since I can still play the on other computers. Is there any solution to that, besides uninstalling servicepack 1?

is something I really miss, since I migrated to win2k. I had hoped that things would be different with windows xp, but unfortunately they are still the same....does anyone have an idea, if there is something like quickres from the old powertoys is floating around for xp?

now I've got to activate it again! I activated my RC1, and saved me the wpa.dbl file. I was just curious if I could still use it after upgrading to RC2, I even used the same serial on it. Unfortunately RC2 doesn't care for my previous activation. I was just curiouse if there was a way of skipping another activation, between upgrading to a different build.

I just wondered, if there are any alternative designs available for whistler...I checked the page of microsoft, but there seem to be none...or is it all compatible with windowblinds? I'm just curious, because all this blue kinda goes on my eyes :-)

Actually I had a friend over here, who also thought its obviously that, but to his amazement it wasn't. However I was able to fix it now...So in case someone got the same problem, try this: 1.create a new user and log on to this account. 2. open regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion. There you will export the entry "Explorer" completely and log off. 3. log on to the user who got this problem. then open regedit got to the described key, delete the Explorer-entry there and then import the reg-file. You just need to reboot or maybe only logoff and here we go as fine as paint!

hmm, no ideas? its really killing me! It must be something in the registry for that user, but I don't know where this information is stored there.

I got an extremely annoying problem here...I don't know how it happened, because I wasn't there when it happened, but now my taskbar is gone. I can see it for a brief moment, when logging on, but then it disappears again immediately. At first I thought some wiseass wanted to play a prank on me and just tried to hide it you know...making it smaller and push it down, but no such luck! When I log on as admin or any other user the taskbar is there...but not in my account anymore!! Anyone got a hint for me? I just go bonkers with that! ------------------

I just read in the win2000 faq here, that they write about service pack 2....is it already out? anybody knows about it?

Thank you Bermein, but thats not my problem. I didn't use any software for the sidewinder. After I installed dx8, I decided to plug my joystick again and try and it was working, but only in the account with admin-rights. As soon as I use an account thats only Poweruser, I can't access it anymore, let alone install it there again...

hmmm, still no luck with my problem...is there nobody who knows a good solution? hello?

So far so good, but my account had admin privileges, when I installed the joystick and when I found out about the SOF-problem, I changed this account to Poweruser and my joystick was gone. As you can guess, when I tried to install it there again, I was unable to do so because of lack of privileges!

I'm really dissatisfied with my system now...I got a PIII 800Mhz, 256MB ram, SBLive card, 45GB HDD, Asus v6600 deluxe running with the detonators 7.17 and running DX8 under win2k. Now my problem is, if I want to play SOF, its running fine, as long as I use the Poweruser account, however, if I want to play something with my Sidewinder FF joystick, it says, I got no joystick connected...its only there in the Admin account.. anyone got an idea?
