hmm my mate is having an identical problem with win2k and a voodoo3 he is running an amd k6-2 550 and gets booted to the desktop after 5/10 mins in game i really want to know the cause of this one so id like to ask anyone running SP1? he isnt and im wondering if this is a side effect? he also has a SB PCI 128, not a live! a 64 meg gts and an mx are both based on smaller archetecture and as such will draw less power that that geforce ddr - try ur mates ddr on ur pc if it works then it aint a power problem give me more specifics on pc specs and gfx card specs

aah the dreaded streaks im assuming a via chipset i have kt133 w/ 686a south but the specifics dont matter i had them last night and heres what i done installed agp and in bios : i disabled: video bios shadowing/chaching AGP master 1 ws read AGP Master 1 WS write and enabled: PCI master pripeline req p2c/c2p concurrency fast r-w turnaround cpu to pci write buffer pci dynamic bursting pci master 0 ws write pci delay transaction pci#2 access#1 retry give it a try it may work

ok - first off - if the pencil trick dont work it acts tho the multiplyer is still at 6 - it will still boot. If it aint booting then its a voltage issue - turn the fsb back to 100 set multiplyer to 7 and voltage to 1.8 fire it up - if u get 600 ur penciling is garbage if u get 700 good, boot into windows and see whats happening - u MAY get it to a gig if ur lucky my 800 is at a gig and it never above 40 C with my global win fop 38 as for the thermal compound - that trick will work - if u use good themal compund as replacement like artic silver i can max the votlage on mine (tho urs may go higher) at 1.85 - id say if it dont work at 1.85 ur goin 2 high - u should be able to get at least 800 out of it tho

ok this took me ages to get working but here goes if u have EVER installed drivers other than Mira341U.zip then u will find it VERY difficult to get this to work i used mira340u.zip and that buggered everything i would suggest getting those drivers - from me if u cant find them elsewhere - and if they dont work u will have to do a fresh install of windows

ok ive recently upgraded my computer to the specs below. But after doing so, my dodgy Intellimouse Explorer complete with nufftered cable keeps turning totally off. At first i thaught it was just the cable the i discovered somthing - when it happens ALL USB devices die BUT the computer thinks they are still there! ie scanner mouse and hub all appear in device manager BUT none of them are on - i am wondering if anyone else has had this problem or it is just my shitey PSU (235w/250w MAX) 8) any help would be appreciated

one or two points 1. the sound crackiling was an MVP3 prob, my KT133 doesn't do it and ive comfirmed this with many people 2. A few folk have mentioned when running games under win2k with admin status they run like sh1te although ive never really noticed this i know others have so u could try that 3. What modes were the harddisks in ie UDMA 33/66(i have 2 hdds but they are on the highpoint raid controller in UDMA 100 on my abit kt7raid so maybe it would stutter if i used the via but i never had any 3d stuttering on my mvp3 only sound!!) if none of this works - try an abit KT7-Raid and see what happens - maybe u are just really picky and btw 128mb is actuall quite low for win2k and id really consider 128mb a minimum for gaming with that os ----------- Duron 800 @ 1000 ABit KT7-RAID 256mb super sh1tey PC100 CAS 3 RAM GeForce DDR SB LIVE! ok i would agree with tank on this one: here - try this fire up winamp and play a song then either move a large lump of data across the IDE bus or a large amount of data across the AGP bus (large file copy or vis in winamp) and u should find the sound starts to crackle like hell if it does then u have the same prob as me i had to live with it until i got a new mobo (VIA KT133 based ABit KT7RAID and a duron)and now its gone but as i said i would agree with tank - its some kind of bus mastering prob - that chipset is simply sh1te one question to tank - does it do it on your systems with the kt133 or just the MVP3????

what kinda mobo/chipset u got? i had an mvp3 and i got lots of crachtling/stuttering although i had an sb live my mates also get it with other cards and that chipset also make sure summat stoopid aint happening like mic is pickin up sound and feedin it back thru

now here is somthing strange: i installed 1.17 when i went to play online and now i only timedemo at 68fps so i wonder if thats why the anandtech benches say 71fps and not 88fps which i got originally - im gonna try some of the dlls and stuff and see if i can tweak it up

hey with a duron Gig and Geforce 1 DDR i get 88 fps in win2k, q3 version 1.11 - no tweaks, and 1024*768*32 and everything maxed out - what spec u got trey? clutch - im ***uming my card is kinda maxed out if ur getting 100/125 with a slower proc????

what kinda HSF u got on it? - i would suggest a GlobalWin FOP38 (keeps my duron 800 @ 1ghz under 40 degrees C ) or a hedgehog 238M (copper heatsink) if u can find one

well first off i would say dont get the asus get the Abit KT7-RAID this is a better board as it has more features such as RAID and softmenu support for cpu speed etc. Also i would suggest - if ur machine is gonna be a gaming box - to buy a duron - the speed incrase is not actually that great and the durons are much more overclockable eg a 800 duron will easily hit 1 gig and could hit 1.3 Gig with some mega big a$$ cooling system Aragorn
