  1. The misalignment problem has gone away for me. Looks good Philip. -bZj

So, it may be a FF problem - but growing as it is, one that should be looked into. Screenshot 1 (wacky layout), Screenshot 2 (after going 'back') It does look nice when it displays correctly. -bZj

    agp4X and agp8x

APG is completely backwards compatible as far as I know. Any AGP card will work in any slot. -bZj
  4. I know this is for content, but the page doesn't display correctly in Firefox 1.0.7. The sections are basically just listed, instead of being arranged as they are under IE6sp2. The content is somewhat busy, but I run across usefil bits here and there. -bZj

    Does SP2 make XP chugg?

Anyone have any input on Windows Activation? As in, there is the method to keep your Actyivation files when you reinstall, and not have to re-ativate. If I backup those files, then install a slipstreamed SP2 in place, will the same WAP files work, or throw a problem, forcing me to reactivate? Any help on the situation is helpful. -bZj

If it doesn't work, especially if it causes major problems, then it's not ready. Conversely, just b/c it worked for you doesn't mean it is ready. I've heard too many of this exact same story, so I'm waiting until I see an SP2a up for grabs. -bZj

    Running an older system 24/7?

I once ran a 486DX 66MHz for 32days, 16hrs, 38mins, 41sec, running Win95. That was the record - it was still up essentially 24x7, running as a file server. My 250W PSU that went with my P3-500MHz is still running 24x7 (with a shiny 'new' 933MHz CPU). I'd say you're alright. -bZj

Verizon + FiberOptics to Homestead = Good thing!

Any word on the up speeds? I'm seriously happy with my 3MB down, but the 256k or less up is jsut a hassle, for things like P2P and home servers. -bZj

    Water cooling

  10. That's not true. Repeated re-downloads, including refreshed (via shift+F5) tries won't always fix it. This is a pain in the ass bug, and it's been around for too long. -bZj
  11. Your best bet is Partition Magic. Resizing partitions, especially boot partitions is a little troublesome. -bZj
  12. A small word of warning: My firend used dynamic disks, on his RAID setup. He had a separate partition for Windows. Now, he just got a new mobo/CPU/RAM, so he figured, wipe the system partiton, reinstall, and you're good to go. But with dyunamic disks, the partitoin info is kept on the system partiton, so he jsut lost 160GB worth of data. He's been working with a recovery program for a couple days trying to get his data back. Just a warning, -bZj
  13. Just to toss some fuel in there: My friend has a dual Xeon 1.5MHz, with a GF4Ultra, and he says his 1.5GHz Centrino w/GF4 Go is faster in games. Not apples to apples, but possibly useful info. He just moved up to a new P4/Rad9800P system though, so he ain't hurting for raw power. -bZj
  14. Being a big Corvette fan, seeing the engine go into something that's less expensive (i.e. somethign I could afford before I'm a 60yr old CEO) is pretty cool. Seeing RWD V8s in general is nice, after a Fast & Furious fueled society of slow FWD 4cyl. And, if it manages to weight less than the 'Vette, gas mileage should be great (for a V8), as the C5 gets in the neighborhood of 18/25+mpg (city/hiway). -bZj

I like it! Alot... how about you?

I think that modern El Camino would sell well here, though I've never been a fan of the original (excepting the horsepower potential). Off the top of my head, I'd guess the original Goat was a big block, with it's predecassor keeping the small block (I forget the name right now). But today, there's not much need for a big block with SBC putting out 350hp+ from the factory. We'll find out in January, at the unveiling of the C6 Corvette, if GM managed to bump that number to 400hp+. -bZj

I did catch part of that Discovery Ch. show on the reworked T-bird. Awesome looking custom. I was happy to see the T-bird 'go back to its roots' w/RWD/V8, but they could've done better (being a bowtie fan ). At least it's dying/dead - Ford may bring it back in a couple years, à la the GTO & Mach1 (the Mach1's being my favorite blue ovals). I do agree that this new GTO still has some of that patented 'Pontiac Ugly'© to it, but it's the power I'm concerned with! -bZj
  17. Nice lookin' and performin' cooler. The other reviews I've seen say the same. The only thing I'd be concerned with is that it was tested on an XP2200+, which may (or may not) be a little cooler being that it's slower/older. My next cooler will be a Koolance system. :^) For now, my Thermaltake TR2 M2 T.M.D. set-up is doing fine. -bZj
  18. Quote: Quote: What about just putting this in a .bat file and running it as a scheduled task? Code: ping -n 5 www.yahoo.com >> c:\log.txt That was what I tried to begin with. Doesn't work. Just flashes the .bat on the screen for .2 seconds then closes. No ping is done, no log is created. Thank you for your reply though. Strange, it worked perfectly for me. -bZj

  20. Been a while since I came 'round here.... OK, recently replaced my aging P3-500 with a new system (AXP2500+, Abit NF7-S, 512MB HyperX, GF3Ti200). It's all well and good, except that it randomly freezes. The freezes last for roughly 30 seconds, then it's open to input for about 3 seconds, then 30s freeze, ad nauseum. I save what I'm doing and hit the reset button. While the screen is frozen (and sometimes sound continues, sometimes not), it will 'accept' input, in that if I type anything (say, "my computer is freezing, i'll brb - screw nvidia & ms") it will appear once the 3 second gap comes along. Someone said this sounded like a bad OS install, but I've reinstalled a couple times. I removed the memory card reader, my ATi TV tuner, and increased cooling (~48*C idle, max 53*C under load), tried both the MS and NVidia IDE drivers. Tried not running certian programs (MBM, BT), since it seemed like those might be the cause. But all to no avail, the freezing always comes back. As soon as finals are over, I'll be doing a fresh install of WinXP-Pro (I tried it before, and got the same freezing problems), so I'd like to figure out what is causing this so my fresh install will be trouble free. Any ideas where to look? Not enough/'dirty' power supply? Driver issues? Bad hdd? Ire of the computer gods? -bZj
  21. Anything stand out as not being needed? Telephony there will disable Remote Access Connection Mgr, so I think I need it. -bZj
  22. I was fearing it might be USB... I went WiFi b/c the DSL drop is in another room, about 70ft away as the cable runs. The USB-WiFi... well, it's so hard to give up my internet for even a day or two to test. All I have is the tv tuner and my GF3, so I've gone cardless before - problem persists. Any other possibilities to check? (Can't really do w/o 'Net until after finals.) -bZj
  23. I use AVG antivirus (never had problems in the past). My WiFi setup is mostly secure. I don't use encryption, but my router only gives out IPs to specific MAC address. And I live on the outskirts of a small town, so that brings the chances of interlopers down. Still possible though, I guess. As for services, it's a normal Win2K install, the only thing I specifically shut off was the messenger service. Is there somethign specific you had in mind? -bZj
  24. Forgot to add: The one thing I haven't tried removing yet is my USB-WiFi adapter. Anyone have freezing issues with something similar? -bZj
  25. I'd love to take that off your hands if I had the cash. Free bump. -bZj
