I to have the same problem. looked for a solution for while, couldnt find one Its *very* annoying
  2. I just bought some software that wont run in windows 2000 (magix music generation5). The only thing I can do is put windows 98 back on but I dont want to lose 2000. I have 2 hard drives at the moment. Windows 2000 is set up on the master with the secondary with nothing on it. Is there anywhere I can put win 98 on the secondary without disrupting 2000. thanks

Help with whistler, or I'll cry..please

Do you think that my version of whistler may not be working becuase it has been burned wrongly or some file(s) have been corrupted during download. My hardware is nothing strange. And get a stop error when setting it up seems a little harsh. Is they anyway you can get a copy on cd from anywhere? I couldnt stomach downloading it all over again to 'make sure'. thanks

Help with whistler, or I'll cry..please

Thanks I'll play around with it but its nice to get a friendly reply. I have posted in 'other' newsgroups only to get smart ass responses by people saying that I didnt pay for it so I shouldnt get any help. It was getting me down... Really, thanks, you have restored some of my faith in newsgroups and forums (well, this one is particually good). :-)

Help with whistler, or I'll cry..please

I've just read that whistler will not install on 90% of compters (2250). I wish I had known this before. Oh well, here are my specs if it helps: GX 2000 mobo latest bios p3 650 slot 1 128 MB RAM Sound blaster live 1024 Elsa Erazor x (geforce sdr) Netgear FA310TX network card Hitachi DVD drive Creative 4224e CRW 20 GB Fujitsu drive 6 GB Fujitsu drive Nothing out of the ordinary...I have all shadowing and stuff turned off in the bios. Windows 2000 installed fine.
  6. I just downloaded whistler files so I could install it. It taken me 2 days and It wont work. I am just hoping I have done something wrong and it can be fixed. I am really upset as you can imagine... Anyway. I downloaded a load of rar files and unzipped them (about 230MB) I burnt the stuff onto a cd following the instructions given at:http://www.angelfire.com/de2/w2kcd/ Now when I boot of the CD it goes through loading up all the files it needs for setup and when it goes to actually begin the setup I get a stop error. If I try and run the setup up from within windows 2000 i get an error message saying that the installation source path specified to setup is invalid. i dont know what to do. I really hope I can get this working........ I'm not usally so desperate but 2 days on a 56k modem.....

    Whistler?, a few questions

If whistler is as good as many of you make out (and I am sure it is, I am still downloading it, taking ages :-() then I can't see how Linux is going to make its way onto the home desktop. I only mention this as a load of companies like IBM, compaq, sun are all getting behind Gnome to challenge microsoft. But if .Net 1.0 that good, I cant see them being able to do much.

    Whistler?, a few questions

Thanks I'll give it a try The only reason I wondered about the drivers is that I have a geforce and the latest drivers are much improved (6.18) and I wondered if they would work. Looking foward to giving it a go... Oh I also heard that the OS attempts to contact microsoft when you connect to the net. If this is true, what would they do? Send the FBI round? :-) But are microsft really bothered that whistler is avaliable to anyone on the net? thanks byeee

    Whistler?, a few questions

I am downloading whistler now (dont tell bill ;-)) and have a few questions... Firstly, what kind of compatibility can I expect from release 2250?. Will drivers for windows 2000 work with it?. How much of the OS is actually in place. Are there great big pieces missing. It just its taking me 12 hours to get and I hope its not really patchy and empty. Also, is it possible to install it on another hard drive (windows 2000 being on the first) and whistler on the second and then use the 2000 bootloader to select. Does it set up all that stuff automaticlly? Thanks I really hope one of you guys/girls can help me out :-) *********************************************

    what does this mean

Found the cause.... The Windows 2000 TCP/IP performance counters (Perfctrs.dll) are attempting to extract I/O control information from a network device, but no network device (network adapter, modem, and so on) is present in the system. This problem can also occur when the performance counters attempt to extract I/O control information, but the network stack has not completed loading. This is a timing issue and does not necessarily indicate a problem.

    Ground Control

I have been playing GC on win2k with virtually no problems. The movies do stutter a little but other than that its great. BTW, the game is fantastic. System P3 650 Geforce/ 5.30 soundblaster live
  15. Go back to your old drivers :-) Or go to the latest: 5.32 Or, you could try and make sure that your monitor is not set to plug and play. Set it to the actual make and model of your monitor. (right click on desktop, propeties, advanced, monitor) That might not work but I have known strange problems with monitors set to plug and play. good luck (i remember the same thing happening to me with q3 but i cant remember how I fixed it)
