Memmaker was my first one, then I found Netroom and finally got my conv. memory up to like 630k! Hehe, those were the days, huh? And to think that now I'm running 256Megs of ram hehehe

Is is that damn ACPI problem with SB Live! ????

Generally speaking, ACPI is doing it's thing when it puts all the devices on one IRQ. I suppose your mileage may vary, but I've personally been having great experiences with it since I installed it. I would personally exhaust all other possibilities before I reinstalled my computer without ACPI. I would probably cast the blame at something to do with that Thrustmaster first, but I have no direct experience with them, so I can't help you on that front.

choppy cutscenes in games under win2k

I haven't had any direct experience with that program, but two things ended my stuttering in Baldur's Gate 2. First was a setting in a config file that fixed -some- of the stuttering in win2k, and the second was a fix involving the DirectX control panel proggie and the debug output level (darned buggy SB Live drivers!). I don't currently have a link to that file because I got it weeks ago, but if I can find it, I'll add it to this post.

    UT problems in Win2K

I'm running a logitech wheelmouse, and the drivers work fine. One note is that logitech has a file on their drivers site that corrects the functioning of the wheel in certain games (Quake 3, for instance) that must be run before the wheel will function properly. UT never had a problem with the mouse for me, however, as long as I was running directinput.

    UT problems in Win2K

I'd probably first try uninstalling and reinstalling UT in win2k. Also, I get a lot of general UT weirdness when I tried to run the 6.47 driver set from nvidia, but a lot of other people swear by it. I only got it running properly with the 6.36 set, even though it is slightly slower than the newer releases. As for the mouse wheel, are you sure you're using directinput for your mouse? there's an option for that either on the in-game config menu or the advanced menu, I don't remember which. Without directinput, the scroll wheel won't work a bit. Good luck to ya!

by far, the dumbest problem I have seen in my whole life.

Wow, that's a bizarre problem...but it's always nice to find out that it's someone else's fault Now if only I could get my computer to stop disconnecting periodically for no apparent reason.....hehe oh well

Al Gore trying to steal the election.

Oh good lord. If the tables were turned and Bush were in Gore's position, do you think he would bow out and let the other guy have it? No of course not, and Bush made a public statement saying exactly that. A reporter several days ago asked him if he thought Gore was being a sore loser, and he said, basically, that he would do the exact same thing if he were in that position. Besides that, Gore won the popular vote, not Bush. If we weren't still using an archaic method of selecting the President that has grown vastly unneccessary, Gore would have had the Presidency long ago. Besides, the whole thing will work itself out eventually, and four years from now someone else will be Pres, because I don't see either one of 'em lasting for eight. Pauses in games?

Are you using EAX with a soundblaster live? The current driver sets have made every game I've tried stop for a few seconds periodically during gameplay when EAX is enabled. It's REALLY annoying, I know, but the only workaround I know of is to turn off EAX. Maybe someday creative will release working win2k drivers.....

    Q1 and Win2k...help

Didn't the quake series prior to Q3A have a problem where you had to limit the framerate to avoid a major lag? It's something like the renderer goes too fast and impedes the network connector. Unfortunately, I don't remember the command, but I do know that it's on the in the geforce faq (yeah yeah I know, you're running a voodoo, but it might not hurt to check) at www.geforcefaq.com.

    QUESTION-Please answer

Did anyone else see this one coming? He seemed to follow the same path that our other friends have of posting vague error descriptions, no system specs, and no extra information, then getting mad when no one responds with a fix within an hour. I personally say good riddance! If he's that impatient, let him run winME or whatever else he wants to.

What does Netscape 6 work with??

I wouldn't mind Internet Explorer if it weren't for that dang Outlook Express mail program with it. I vastly prefer Netscape's email program. With regard to the advertising, to be fair it only happens when you're on the netscape web page, but you're right, AOL should never have gotten involved with the project. Haven't both the Netscape programmers and the Mozilla project been saying for weeks that NS6 was not ready to be really released and that it's in beta quality right now. Hopefully we'll see a 6.1 soon that will fix the biggies, unless AOL screws that one up, too.

What does Netscape 6 work with??

The memory usage on mine tends to hover around the 30-35 mark. Interestingly, it seems to stay there, though, regardless of how many windows I have open. Personally, NS6 is really growing on me, but then IE has quite a lot that really gets on my nerves. I just wish it didn't feel so beta-y..I manage to crash it WAY too much for a final product on win2k.

    Very Disappointed....

My guess is that you're refresh limited, meaning that vsync in turned on. Firstly, you ought to be able to up the refresh rate, but then it's a pain in the butt (hence the reason I haven't bothered to on my Geforce DDR). On the plus side, a system like that ought to basically never drop much below 60 fps at that resolution, so it's hardly bad playing wise. Congrats on the rig, I wish mine were that spiffy (it will be though, just give me time

    Changing IRQs

You sure it's actually causing an IRQ conflict? Even though all your PCI devices report as being on either IRQ 9 or 11 (mine report on 11), they are actually on different IRQs and windows is dynamically reassigning them as needed. Win2k is surprisingly good at that sort of thing, so I don't have to worry about juggling IRQs manually anymore!

    ICQ crashes

Are you using the newest release of ICQ? In my experience, ICQ is a really crash-prone program. I'd probably try uninstalling it and reinstalling the newest version. Is there any kind of error message that you could tell us? At the very least, I can say that it works fine for many of us, so I doubt it's a conflict with win2k. Let me know if that helps!

    3DMark 2000

Has anyone else been getting major problems with 3DMark after installing DX8? I was able to run it before I upgraded, but now it runs all the game tests really, really slow (I'm talking like .43 fps...and sometimes it would sit at a frame and jump to a totally different part of the test) and didn't make it all the way through the tests. My system spontaneously rebooted sometime during the 32 MB texture test. I don't believe it was messing up before DX8, so I'm thinking it may be the culprit. Anybody have any suggestions? My System: P3-500 (the old pre-Cumine kind) DFI P2XBL mobo w/ 128 MB of RAM GeForce DDR graphics (Asus V6800 Pure) SB Live! Value

    3DMark 2000

Well, I installed the 6.34 WHQL driver set, which did fix my problems with 3DMark, but now I'm not able to get coolbits to overclock my card. Has that been disabled in the WHQL driver set or has the old registry tweak been removed? I'm afraid my 3DMark scores were pretty lousy...but oh well, this system is getting on the older side anyway, and it runs my games pretty well right now.

    Unreal Tournament freezing in win2k

NT_Worker, you wouldn't be running an SB Live with EAX enabled would you? I had that problem whenever I tried to run EAX on UT. I haven't tried it with DX8, but I doubt it will be any different...Creative's drivers just seem to be horribly broken on Win2k with EAX.

    Unreal Tournament TROUBLE

6.34 are the same as 6.31 but with WHQL certification? If that's the case, in my experience currently 6.47 is the fastest driver set for the GeForce. I jumped by nearly 5 fps in UT with it. Q3A hasn't changed at all with any driver set since 6.18, but it's fast enough for me anyway, so I won't complain. Anyway, back to the first question, I'm running on a P3, so I don't think the error on exit is an AMD issue. It only happens to me in Win2k, but it's happened pretty much since I first installed it, so I just assumed it was a problem with the OS itself. Anybody have any other suggestions? I'm just going to live with it otherwise, since it doesn't seem to be affecting anything seriously.

    Unreal Tournament TROUBLE

It does that to me on occasion. I still haven't nailed down the cause, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the system too much. It's done it with every driver release (I have a GeForce) and with every patch to UT. I even upgraded to DX8 without solving it. I've settled on just living with it, but if someone else knows how to fix it, I'd love to know.

DirectX 8 Out - Whats the scoop?

I tried using the new DirectX 8 and the 7.17 drivers, but they didn't seem to like me very much. UT was really jumpy - it went from an average of around 45fps to around 15fps. Q3 wouldn't even load - it BSOD's on me (that was the only BSOD I've EVER gotten with win2k, though, so it's not -that- big a deal I suppose). I downgraded back to the 6.47 release, and now I'm back up to normal speeds, with a slight boost in UT speed. Has anyone tested sound acceleration under DX8? I know with the SB Live drivers before, EAX was practically unusable in some games. I'm hoping it'll be fixed with DX8 because lord knows when creative will get around to releasing new drivers!

    Celery 2 rocks!

Err, you say your Celery 2 is running at 872MHz and your friend's AMD is running at 800MHz, right? Isn't the frame rate difference almost exactly clock for clock? I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, but if they're performing that closely, why does it really matter? It ought to boil down to price and comfort at that point, so if the AMD works for him I say more power to him. I'm going to stick with my Intel right now (although that's mainly because I'm broke and its already been paid for ) [This message has been edited by Gerbache Kaznet (edited 17 October 2000).]

    Netscape6 Preview3

Is PR3 worth downloading on a (relatively) slow modem connection? I try to like Netscape, but the 4.x line has turned me off due to its bugginess. PR1 was a nice release for an early alpha, but it just can't compete with the officially released versions. I hope it all works out well for version 6...competition is always a good thing!

    Detonator 6.31 WHQL is out!

The 6.34 drivers have been leaked out haven't they? I believe the latest "official" release is the 6.31 driver set. I suppose some people are a bit leery of running leaked drivers (I'm not sure I blame them after the fiasco the 6.26 (I think) driver set caused.) While we're on the subject, I've heard that the 6.31+ drivers are geared to TNT users and DVI cards, can anyone here comment?

    It's come to my attention...

Fortunately, I haven't been hit too hard by any of your flames, but by reading other posts, yes you do flame people quite often. If you'd really like us to, I'm sure that most of us could go through previous posts and demonstrate many, many times you acted like an utter jerk for simple little things. Actually, just in one thread on the Whistler page, lets quote a few: "this post is becoming useless very fast." "oh really? I didn't know that windows 2000 was planned to be made with XML and DHTML and I didn't know that Windows 2000 was really for home customers and I also didn't know that Windows 2000 had 9x support in it. Wow, that's really news to me DosFreak..." "I love when people say stupid things about something that hasn't really even started.." "why don't you just give it a rest DosFreak? nobody cares about whether or not it sucks in your opinion.." Yes, you are knowledgeable about Whistler. Yes, in some cases, you can be a good resource for help with Whistler. However, the method you use very often to convey that knowledge ends up simply irritating people. I'd like to know what long-term effects I'm experiencing right now on the bomb I wasn't really aware I was dropping. Have you decided that since you made some bad statements months ago and everyone jumped on you that you have the right to do the same to anyone who moves? Furthermore, never once did I flame you for something I simply didn't agree with. I was set off by the matter-of-fact method that you act like you're the best person in the world. When you simply stick to helping, you're a wonderful aid, but far too often you decide you have to tell people what to think, and, in doing so, you come across like a pompous jerk. BTW, you got flamed because you came into a windows 2000 forum and declared that windows 2000 sucks. I simply stated that I don't like your method of dealing with things, so no, in that regard, I haven't been in your shoes. However, I think you should stop to think about how you felt when you got that huge flame every time you blast someone else.
