    dual boot

hi, here is how it works; win98 must be installed first, then win2k, also, i recommend to format your new partition where win2k will sit on, and DO NOT FORMAT IT OR CHANGE IT TO NTFS!!! if you do, then win98 will not be able to boot. if you've installed win98 first and win2k afterward, then everything is done by the systems, and you dont have to edit anything, but just in case, edit your boot.ini file to change this. - cap0ne
  2. Hi, I have an Acer 4x4x32 CDRW for sale or trade. It comes with Adaptec EasyCD Creator v3, if you want to trade, I'm looking for memory, a 128MB SDRAM DIMM. Basically, if you have RAM to spare, you're in a good situation, this CDRW is worth $200+ while 1x128MB SDRAM DIMM is $130...so, let's bargain. Thank you. P.S. If you have any hardware, such as motherboards, hard drives, good 3D cards, let me know. nick@nikolex.com - cap0ne

    Why wont this work?

hi, the reason thing like IRC and other's dont work over proxies, is due to incorrect port settings, for example, with AnalogX Proxy server, the server for WWW is 6588, make sure you set all ports as needed to connect with specific apps. Also, to play games over a proxy, the proxy must be well configured, and AnalogX is not something you want to use to do that, it's simply for sharring a connection. - cap0ne

    HELP! File Sharing Network Error

Hi, the problem is this, the Server, in this case a simple firewall, protects the folder from being accessed, check out this scheme: (share [Win98]) <- (server (WinNT)) ! Inet If you want to share folder this way, you need a DNS and a router, much complicated stuff, basically, create another folder on your server and copy your stuff there. - cap0ne

    can you help 10/100mbit network

Hello, since you're on a small LAN, use these: 192.168.000.001 and 192.168.000.002 255.255.255.000 and 255.255.255.000 Also, check to see if your hub has a switch somewhere on it to switch between 10 or 100Mbps. Another thing is, in Network properties of your NIC, make sure that neither of your NICs are set to 10Mbps, set them to Auto Negotiation, if that doesnt seem to work, set them all to 100Mbps Full Duplex - cap0ne
  6. Hi, I don't know what Microsoft tells people, and don't care, but people that I know say that SP6 is cursed. I have stopped at SP5, which is a good SP to install. SP6 is a no-no, in most cases, people told me that it causes their PCs to lock up, once again, I don't have any personal experience it that. A couple things to do though, go to the Policy editor and make sure that Network Neighborhood is set to show for the local computer, also check with the registry. Maybe SP6 has a bug in it, 'cause SP6a exists. - cap0ne

    Lockups -

Hello everyone, the problem that Win2000 has so far (mostly) with is the hardware and the IRQs. The PNP feature in Win2000 was either uncooked or somehow overcooked (burned to crisp). All I can say is, wait until a new SP is released. I had numerous problems with my modem and sound card, but everything else seems to work properly. The Device Manager is your best friend! - cap0ne
