    Videocard?

.... After arrival at the airport and reaching home, I took out the casing, I found the processor+heatsink detached. Incidently, I also found my GeForce scratched. Perhaps, it's time for a change. The GeForce was very stable on my machine, now, are the newer just as stable or more stable? I would love to own an ATI Radeon 64MB with video in/out. I haven't heard much about the ATI Radeon - the goods, the bads. I seek suggestions and I don't have the money to spend much. I use my machine to play the Age of Empires series... The first release, the second release and the latest: the conquerors. That's about the only game I play. I would love to watch DVDs / DivX on my computer as well. Sometimes, I use the computer to do flash/photoshop stuff. Briefly, I mainly use it for music, age of empires series, chatting, a bit of others. I attend very much to *compatibility*, **stability**, reliability then speed along with cost. Suggestions? ----------- P3 850, Semi-broken GeForce, 256 MB RAM, ASUS P3V4X, IBM 13GB HD, SB Live!, 17" Monitor, WIN2000.

    Aureal Vortex2 and win2k ugh

I'll give you the simple answer, cuz I had the same problems on two totally different machines. First, Win2k does NOT work well with Aureal Vortex 2, MX300 or not. I have talked this through with many people, and it isn't the new drivers. Try playing games with the MS packaged drivers, it's not funny. I can give you a simple solution, though im anti-creative... get an SB Live! I find the sound better than vortex 2 and it is a ****load more stable. This is the only one good experience I had with creative. I had problems with all my previous SB hardware. Also to you people who mentioned that they don't have this problem: we're talking about Win2k here, not Win98/95/ME.

    CD-Ripping with Pioneer DVD-115

i read an article long ago posted on NTCompatible about the DVD-115 or whatever you call it. I don't know if any of you have found this but ill say it anyway. The review on it says that you can't rip audio cds with it. Well, I tried using MpegDJ Enc on it, and i thought yea they were right. One day, I got bored and tested a freeware mp3 ripper/encoder called Simple. Man was it fast: i ripped a 30m cd in less than 5mins. [160kbps] But the point is: it works.

    Dual P3

Hi again, I am thinking of buying a new system with these components: 2X PIII-733MHz Processor Dual P3 MB of course 18.2 GB Scsi HD a soundcard <duh> ATI RADEON 256 (not released yet though) 256 MB RAM - brand, type recommendations? 19" monitor a good network card i will be using win2k please recommend me the specific brands/models i should purchase. i don't want an over expensive machine.. just a reasonable one - and a good one. aureal is kinda dead and I don't trust creative in any case. So.. what soundcard should I get? anyway.. i've thought of getting this.. " Tyan Thunder 2400 "... seems good from my point of view... just that it only supports PC100 SDRAM. Anyways, recommendations?

    Aureal - Vortex 2

Hi, Anyone know what's up with Aureal? I've been waiting for new Win2k drivers for vortex2 soundcards for a while now... because sounds halt suddenly in Win2k.. and I ALWAYS have to refresh the drivers through device manager. If you know how to fix it, please tell me else just tell me what's up with aureal. (their site has been down as well)
