Sensei's right, mine worked fine in '98 as well, plus I just bought a new 300W PS and nothing was fixed. In Win98 I could get 2x perfectly, but in Win2k I get lockups unless it's running in PCI mode!! For what it's worth I tend to think the fault lies somewhere with the AMD751 AGP miniport driver for Win2k because my brother got his system to work fine with a KA7 and a Geforce (everything except the mobo are the same). I've tried 5.02 on Asus or Soyo's site but they didn't help. Has anybody tried the beta service pack and knows if that fixes it?? My System: AMD Athlon 550 Gigabyte 7IX 128 MB PC100 Asus Geforce DDR Diamond MX300 + 300 Watt Power supply. ------------------ - Andrew

    Most stable NVidia driver?

I tend to agree with euankirkhope, the less features a driver supports the less problems that usually occur!! Anyways, I found a copy of the 3.69 driver set and I realized that AGP is completely disabled in OGL.... maybe that's why the old drivers fix incompatibilities with Athlon's. The only problems I have with the newer drivers is with Half-Life, but it (as well as AGP 2x) worked fine in Win98 so I also have to agree with ThC about 2000's pickiness. Ahhh well, maybe someday my computer will be at peace with its own components. ------------------ - Andrew

    Most stable NVidia driver?

I myself have an Asus Geforce, but I'm havin' the same troubles as you are. I've heard rumors of a set of drivers (3.66) that seem to be the only salvation for people in our situation, but I'll be damned if I can find them anywhere!! The 3.68 drivers may also work but I haven't tried either to be sure. If ANYONE knows where to find them, PLEASE do tell (and please don't say reactorcritical.... they're not there). I used to be able to use the Asus 3.79's but now they won't even boot into w2k..... strange. ------------------ - Andrew

Will Win2k Gameplay always be slower?

I've been having some strange Half-Life problems lately and I wonder if I'm the only one with these symptoms. I installed Win2K pro fresh just this weekend including the usual gamut of drivers and such. I then installed Half-life, the new patch, and Cstrike and they all ran fine..... for about a day! Now whenever I play half-life one of three things could happen: 1) it could play just fine, 2) the sound could cut out after awhile and then I would be unable to kill the hl.exe process, or 3) the video could just stop at some random time and the sound would repeat over and over (completely locked). This is not consistant so I haven't a clue what it could be. I have an Asus Geforce DDR and these problems did not occur when I had the 3.xx drivers (any of them, even Asus) but now it happens with 3.xx and 5.xx drivers! I tried a new BIOS for my system, and it locked up before and after the new hl patch. I really don't want to go back to win98 to play games this summer, but I might just have to (Every other game works just peachy). I also cannot get AGP 2x to work in 2000 without locking, but I could easily in Win98! Athlon 550 on GA-7IX 128MB PC-100 RAM Asus Geforce256 DDR with ref 5.22 drivers Diamond MX300 with ref 2500.49 beta drivers Windows 2000 Pro ------------------ - Andrew
