RAM Problem, please read (to at least be intrigued)

believe me, I've tried that one ... the setup BSOD's the same way the OS does right now, here's my current update: I found a home for the chips of Cas2 ram ... I happen to have 2 FICA SD11 Athlon 500 boxes, and I stole their ram and put a chip of the cas2 ram in each ... they run fine, so I'm not worried. Then, I took the 2 pc100 chips lying around and and put the two of them in my server box, and stole it's ram ... so now I have two varying chips, one's like yc or something, and one's something else that both are pc133 and never gave me problems, but unfortunately, once again, I'm mixing ram, so my geforce crashes in games ... damn the force, spork
  2. Alright, so I bought this new ram. I have a be6-ii, but the problem happens on my old gateway system as well. The ram is by a company who's initials are "LD". LD is all over the ram. Anyway, I have like eight chips of it (hehe) and it's 128MB, Cas 2. Here's the problem. Putting one chip of this ram in, works fine. I'm running off one chip right now. But I bought this ram to have 256MB of ram that was CAS2. So let's say I put a second chip in, now I have 2x of the LD. My computer will run fine, but windows 2000 will blue screen after it gets past the boot logo screen. Sometimes it wont' blue screen, it'll just reset after the black and white loading screen. The blue screen errors usually say "you do not have an acpi compliant motherboard". Which is weird, because my mobo obviously IS acpi compliant. Now, I have the old cas3 128MB YC ram I was using. I put that in, everything works fine. I put that and one of the new chips everything works fine. I put the old one and two more chips (thinking that it's everytime I get two of the LD ram) and yet it still works. So basically, if I mix ram, everything works. If I only use one stick, everything works. But 2 or more sticks won't work. What's stopping me from using the mixed ram, is that my geforce 2 crashes when I mix ram. but the GF won't crash if I just have one stick of either ram. Anyhelp would be much appreciated, this happens on my other win2k box as well (but I dont' want to use the ram on that box anyway).
  3. My Buz Drive CD is quite messed up, it's rather scratched, so in order to install my Buz drive I need the following off the CD: \Iomega\Recordit\*.* For some reason I can install most of everything off the CD, but the recordit part screws up ... Any help would be appreciated. email: spork@thespork.com

    Iomega Buz Drive

I really need some drivers for Windows 95/98 for the iomega buz drive. I know that that's not NT/2000 related, but I do have a little brother who can't handle the power of the beast. But anyway, my OLDER brother went back to college and I accidently left the Buz CD in his DVD player. So I don't have the CD with the drivers on it, and Iomega is too cheap to put them on their website. So could someone help me out, and either post on a website or send the drivers to spork@thespork.com ? thanks much appreciated .. or even a link to a website, anything would be great ... it'd all be in the /setup/ directory, I think

    Power Supply question

Yeah, you can turn the case on without a mobo. (if that's what you're asking).

    LiveWare! Driver update for win2k.

I 100% agree with Ronin, because I've had no troubles at all with Live!Ware2 or whatever we've had thus far. My MP3's never skip, my games play perfectly (besides my fuggin voodoo2 (now that's a different story)). I even turn on EAX in half-life and Unreal Tournament and nothing wrong happens (I'm not sure if I'm actually getting EAX, but nothing BAD happens). Windows 2000 system: Mo.Bo.: FICA SD11 AMD Athlon 500 128 megs of ram sblive permedia2+voodoo2 dlink NIC Sony CDR Mitsumi CD-ROM **Added Note** I hate you Ronin, you have WAY too much money. Want to share some with me? (your computer beats the **** out of mine) [This message has been edited by TheSpork (edited 11 July 2000).]

    Win2k Adv Server/Active Directory

ok, well, it is the only server in the group, and we can't exactly get any more. And I guess I like the DrSchmoe answer a lot better, too, it's better than having to answer all those questions. But still, clean install only server in the AD no errors in the log that haven't derived since the problem (exchange 2000 never starts, but that's a different story, it was installed long after AD and the prob) the cards are two 3com 100Mb, very nice cards and not sure about hard drive scratching, I can't think right now. Next time it's down, I'll check. But I'm curious where you're going with that. clients connecting are win2k professional, with a couple win98se (only two (stubborn bastards)) tcp/ip's pretty much default options, DNS has like 5 entries (www, ftp, and a couple others) But the only dns'ing it does is for our email server, we just use register.com's DNS servers because they're conveniant. And it only started takin so long when AD was installed. I think DrSchmoe was right, it's just it's the only server. thanks for the help [This message has been edited by TheSpork (edited 26 June 2000).]

    Win2k Adv Server/Active Directory

Ok. We've got this server box, and it runs Advanced Server. We've got it doing Active Directory, because it's fun, manages our network, and makes things a lot easier. Plus it's needed for Exchange 2000, and some other cool toys. Anyway, on to the problem. It takes an enormously long time to get to the login screen, a good 5 or 6 minutes. It usually is the "preparing network connections" part that takes the long time. Now, I'm almost SURE that before we were doing Active Directory, it NEVER took this long. Anyway, I'm thinking maybe it's just the hardware isn't fast enough, or maybe not enough ram. But that looks really bad on us NT people, because Linux would run no sweat with half this computer! P2 400 128 megs of ram (minimum, not recommended) 10 gig hard drive sound card really cheap 2d graphics card, very old (that wouldn't matter, the preparing connctions screen isn't graphics intensive) active directory, IIS (one site), no ftp, happens before exchange, DNS, WINS, DHCP, most of the network stuff, can't think of anything else. **forgot to add 2 nics, 100 megabit** We've tried disabling a couple services. DHCP server, WINS. We need IIS, and DNS. Any help would be appreciated, but it just gets annoying. We never reset it, but on the occasion when we're toying around with something that requires resetting, we have to. [This message has been edited by TheSpork (edited 26 June 2000).]

Windows 2000 Nvidia Reference Driver 5.30

sleeping is dumb, I think. nothing turning off your moniter or a screen saver can do ... you actually RISK your current state by sleeping ... win98 used to crash a lot, too, till they released a fix, but it's still not totally stable. Anyway, the best thing to do, is what I do. password protected screen saver that kicks in after a minute. if I get up to go to the bathroom, no one's gonna use my computer if you know what I mean. when I come back, I hit alt-ctrl-del and the admin or myself can login. It's not like windows where you enter the screen saver password. It's your NT/2000 login. [This message has been edited by TheSpork (edited 26 June 2000).]
  11. Yep, thanks to countless threats from me of rallying Lyra users from all across the world to make a petition (I was 2 seconds from making one on petitiononline.com), RCA finally made some beta drivers. Right now the only SOFTWARE to have jumped on the gun to use these new drivers is Windows Media Player 7 beta. I'm sure Real and MusicMatch will release updates soon to use these beta drivers. Only snag with WinMedia Player is that it uses WMA files, though I kind of like them 'cause they're a slight bit smaller, and same quality (128kbps). The other snag is that using variable bitrate mp3's doesn't fly too well with WMP. What happens for me, is that it will transcode the mp3's (convert them to WMA in other words) and somehow get to 103%, then stop moving FOREVER. I've tried this with all my various VBR mp3's, and it always happens. Yet no problems with regular 192/128. So, until Real and MusicMatch jump on the gun, we're stuck with no VBR and WMA. But I'm not complaining, for three major reasons: 1) I can at least get music in 2000 now 2) You can convert your mp3's using MusicMatch from VBR to constant, and THEN transfer them (nice workaround) 3) The Windows Media starting logo on the Lyra looks better than musicmatch and real. a load of questions...

ok, the answers to 3/4 of them 1)you already fixed it, though I know that what whoever said unchecking that thing is how you fix it ... otherwise try some registry setting 2)It's winamp's fault for the icon looking like that, winamp is MY only weird icon, and it always has been, even since NT for me, and on my 9x box. It's just how it is. You can always make your own icon, and I'm sure you could find a prog or write your own that replaces icons within progs. I know you can replace bitmaps within progs using renovator .. hehe, i love that program. 3)I get my internet from my net card, sorry dude, I've never used dialup. 4)You can't, unless you make it a service. THERE IS NO DOS SUPPORT. That's the key thing. You'll have to go back to 9x if you want to run your dos prog, because you just can't. you can emulate dos from nt/2k, but if it has to be run BEFORE startup, I'm guessing it's some sort of direct access to hardware prog, in which case it won't work from 2k anyway. Sorry dude, you'll just have to stick with 9x for that.

    RCA Lyra

Quote: I know that we did See, I knew it ... RCA needs to get themselves moving ... thanks dude for clarifying that for me, because I knew it couldn't possible take this long

    RCA Lyra

Who was the crackhead that said the Lyra will work in 2000? All those drivers from SCM do is make it so that you can access the flash drive from explorer, and copy over files to it. BUT both RealJukebox and MusicMatch Jukebox (MusicMatch now has a beta Lyra plugin) do not work when you go to transfer files to the lyra. they don't even show that it exists. I tried this on thursday. Reformatted and installed a new fresh copy of 2000 (it's an annual thing for me, do every couple months) and it STILL wouldn't work. So, if the person that submitted the lyra working, please share with the rest of us how to get it to work, because my compact flash reader WILL not work in Real or MusicMatch. Anyway, to those people that also can't get theirs to work, go complain to RCA, it's soooo much fun ... hehe I'm curious, I don't know these things, but how long has it been since the release of the Windows 2000 SDK and how long does it take to write drivers?
