Microsoft VM in XP_SP1 or Sun Java?

What did you think of SP2 build 2055? Did it work with ANY Java applets?
  2. Will the first option "Modified (scan on create)" protect me from downloading from the internet & accessing CD/floppy media? It's quite a bit faster than the second option 'Accessed or modified' - Quote: There are two options available to determine what file operations Realtime Protection monitors: Modified Only: Checks for viruses in files that have been created, renamed, or moved. This permits faster performance because the number of file processes that Realtime Protection monitors is limited. Accessed or Modified: In addition to checks for viruses in files that have been created, renamed, or moved, Realtime Protection checks files that are opened, executed, copied, or saved. This option, the default, provides better protection against viruses at a small resource cost. Thanks...

    Symantec Corporate 8.x Realtime Protection

Thanks; so I guess double clicking an executable on a floppy diskette would leave me unprotected?
  4. Thanks; I've included a link to the readme.txt file below. ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/liveupdate/lusetup.txt

    Windows Update down today?

Same here, loaded fine this evening. Oh well.
  7. My 1.7GHz Centrino laptop spanks my 3.06GHz laptop in just about everything...they are identical otherwise, as far RAM, HDD speed etc.
  8. New version 2.039 available here for download - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/liveupdate/lusetup.exe Readme file here - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/liveupdate/lusetup.txt This is the General Live Update Manual Update, so I'm guessing this works for NAV 2003/2004, Norton Anti Spam 2004 & SAV Corporate 8.1x among other products...

SAV Corporate 8.1 and Live Update

Thanks; now if my system is off during the scheduled time, how do i set the options for "repeat for certain amount of minutes until etc. etc."? I guess SAV Corporate doesn't use NetDetect like NAV 2003...

I've had it with NAV 2004!

Hmmm, personal attacks on someone you don't know, huh? OK, I'll let this brave attack pass by. LOL...good try; one of my Hemis is in a '69 Charger, which I rebuilt using an M-1 single plenum intake & a 1150 cfm Holley Dominator. The other is in a '67 Belvedere, it still has dual Carter AFBs. It doesn't have air cleaners, but individual screen tops for the carbs.

I've had it with NAV 2004!

Quote: witnessed the Chrysler 426 HEMI engine of the late 1960's & early 1970's, & saw a fantastic power generating engine, but one with so many more added moving parts, it was more prone to breakdown because of more elements. Bull. No more moving parts than any other V8 of that time period. I own two of the 426 Hemi engines, and they are by far more reliable than any other equivalent engine, even when fed twice the HP & torque than I feed through a non-Hemi engine. The engine was chosen by Chrysler teams competing in NASCAR due to it's legendary reliability rather than it's ability to make copious amounts of torque/HP. That's also the reason why it's still the dominant engine in NHRA Top Fuel - it works, even when 5500+ HP is fed through it.

SAV Corporate 8.1 and Live Update

sapiens74-so no option except to manually hit the Live Update button on SAV Corporate? Any benefit to upgrading to Live Update 2.0 as opposed to the built in Live Update 1.80.19? Thanks!

    Norton/Symantec Corporate 8.xx

How exactly does this scan e-mails on a standalone workstation in Outlook 2003? I use NAV 2003, which catches plenty of SWEN attachments daily, and strips/deletes them before i even read my e-mails. Does the Corp. version (Client Edition) painlessly scan my incoming POP3 mail for infected attachments? Thanks in advance...

    Norton/Symantec Corporate 8.xx

Thanks, all; I uninstalled NAV Pro 2003 & installed a work copy of SAV Corporate Client 8.1 on my standalone machine; it seems to catch viruses within Outlook 2003 when I highlight the message header (the reading pane is active) even before I click on the attachment (not that I would click on attachments So far I'm pleased...one last question - under realtime scanning, advanced options, I have enabled the "modified-scan on create" instead of the default " accessed or Modified' as i find performance is far better while copying files/folders within my machine. surely, even with this setting I chose, files would still be checked when executed/opened as long as they are on the executable list? Thanks, and regards...
  16. Hi all, I manually set both computers on my Workgroup to a fixed page file size (384MB), but Windows XP SP1 insists on displaying the page file size as "Currently allocated - 767 MB" on both systems. Browsing to the actual pagefile.sys confirms that on both computers, the size is 767MB. What gives? Thanks in advance...
  17. Found out what the cause was; the pagefile insisting on it's own size even after I set a custom minimum & maximum size started the same day I installed Norton AntiVirus Professional 2004. When I uninstalled NAV 2004, the pagefile immediately went back to 512MB by itself on a reboot with no intervention from me. Just to make sure it was NAV Pro 2004, I re-installed it again-same pagefile size problems, so I uninstalled it for good, and went back to NAV 2003 (no problems there). On my other networked machine, NAV2004 slowed web browsing to a crawl - I tested this by disabling & enabling Auto Protect... Go figure; I'd use NAV Corporate 8.oxx if it had the ability to scan individual e-mails instead of the entire .pst file, but NAV 2003 has been worry free over the past 6 months...
  18. After a couple casual logoffs/reboots, it reverted to it's damning 767MB pagefile on 'C'.... ;(
  19. Thc 129 that seemed to have done it, thanks!
  20. Yup; always restarted after every pagefile size change...
  21. Thanks-I like IIS, but it doesn't seem to support Upload resume for clients connecting to my FTP site...
  22. Any idea what these freebie ftp servers that support upload resume would be? Not particularly impressed with BFTP & Serv-U....
