    SafeBurn vs. BurnProof

I just bought a Yamaha 20x10x40, and the box says that it has Safeburn Is this in any way related to Burnproof? I had another burner and it had lots of coasters coming out. So I want something that will reduce the ratio. It also has an 8mb buffer....so should I see a big improvement? And is safeburn akin to burnproof? Thanks!

    Best Motherboard for Athalon

Hey there. Ok let me start off by saying that I want stability above all other features. I have an abit Ka7-100 now, with a 750 Athalon, and its horrible. Only certain PCI slots will take cards without IRQ conflicts etc. I dont want to put up with this crap for my next upgrade. Im looking to get a midrange gigahertz Athalon chip, but I am uncertain as to which motherboard will give me the most stability. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Horrible Driver Error

Hello all, I have a Amd Athalon 750 oced to 800 526 Ram pc 100 abit ka7-100 Asus v 6800 32 ddr 20 gig Maxtor HD I am running win2k pro. My problem is with the Detonator drivers for the graphics card. I had the 6.67 drivers installed for my system, and I had no problems whatsoever. MY brother told me that the 10.80 drivers were really good and improved performance. So i downloaded them from reactor critical, and installed them. Everything seemed to be going fine, until at the very end where it usually tells you that the install was successful, it said that an error occured during install, and that the system could not find a specified file. Ok then it tells me to reboot, so I reboot. To my dismay im back in 800x600 in 16 colours. When i go to hardware manager it shows my geforce with a yellow exclamation mark, saying that the drivers arent installed. I have tried 3 different drivers. I have tried installing in Safe mode, and in normal mode. I have tried clicking uninstall, and then installing drivers. Every time I get that fricken error message!!!! What the hell can I do???? thanks
  5. Hello, I just got a new KA7-100 mobo, and I am having quite a few problems getting my computer back up to work. Here are my specs: asus v6800 Geforce 32 DDR SB Live ! value Intel and Macronix NIC's 20 gig maxtor HD 3.2 gig WD HD 526 Ram. Pc-100 Athalon 750. 3 partition on 20 gig, 1 for WinMe, 1 for Win2k. The problem I have is that there seems to be some sort of conflict with the PCI slots and installing an operating system I initially install Windows ME, and everything seemed to work fine. Then I try and upgrade to Windows 2k, which is my standard operating system. I get throught the whole copying files process with no hitch. The computer reboots, and then goes into a quasi-windows environment where it says it is detecting my devices. It gets about half way through the progress bar, and the system basically hard locks, keyboard/mouse dont work. I tried various things, and when I took out all my PCI cards (sound card and 2 nics) the installation went throught, and i got to the OS. So I went ahead and plugged my cards back in. When I got back into the system, it froze once it reached the Windows 2000 OS. So then through Win ME I got the newest KA7-100 flash, and flashed the system. I plugged my cards back in restarted, and Windows 2000 worked. Then I installed the Livewire drivers for my sound card. When the system rebooted, it showed that some file for the Creative Launcher was missing, and it hard locked. So I thought it was because the installation process got interrupted so many times when I was installing before. So i formatted the Win2k partition in Windows ME, and did the setup once again. Lo and behold it crashed in the detecting devices part of the install again!!!! This is after the mother board flash.... I have no idea what to do, but it seems as soon as I plug in any PCI card, Windows 2000 locks up... I need that OS since I am running a home network. Like I said Windows ME works fine, I am online right now. Thanks!!!

  7. My problem with Half-life and Win2k, is that when I press ESC to get to the main menu, all I get is a black screen. The computer doesn't crash, cause I can alt-tab out of it. The game plays fine, and the menu shows up fine when I start the game, but once I'm in, I cant seem to get out. Thanks.

Why is my system so dope??

Ive been coming across some articles that say the Athalon is clock locked, and to OC it you need to get some sodering skills going. Is that true?? Ive Oc'ed a Celeron before, and a Duron (with that funky lead pencil trick), but Ive never done any actual chip modifications.

    TV Tuner card Advice needed.

Hey Guys, need some advice. I am interested in getting a TV Tuner card for my system. On Ebay I notice a lot of tuner cards by Hauppage (or something like that), connecting via a PCI slot. Does anyone have any experience with this card, and whether or not it works smoothly in Win2k? Thanks!
  11. HELP ME! Three days ago, I started my system up, and heard 2 beeps, and then a third one. They stuck a chill deep in my bones. The monitor showed a error message saying that there was a primary HDD-0 failure. Then it left me at a prompt asking for a boot disk. So I rebooted, and got a different error message: "Cmos settings incorrect" and was forced into the BIOS setup. I then hit the auto-detect Hard Drive button, and all my hard drives appeared without a problem. I rebooted again, and went into Win2k without a problem. However the next time I shut down my system for the night, and booted up in the morning I got the same error! Whats wrong!, I ran disk doctor on the hardrive, and it came out fine. all the cables are fine, and I didnt do ANYTHING out of the ordinary on the day this all started? Specs: AMD athalon 750 Asus K7M motherboard. Asus v6800 Geforce 1)Maxtor 20 gig 7200 RPM (boot drive) 2)WD 3.5 gig 5400 RPM SB LIVE! value Intel and Matronix NIC's 300 Watt power supply.

Need Help!! Primary Disk failures during boot-up

Hey, The problem isnt random. It occurs whenever I shut down my system for a period. If i reboot it, its fine, I can reboot, switch OS's and all. And when I am in Win 2k etc. I can run all my proggies without a problem.. My time keeps getting screwed up whenever I shut down as well...makes me think its cmos battery as earlier suggested.

Need Help!! Primary Disk failures during boot-up

Can anyone with an ASUS K7M confirm if this motherboard has one of those CMOS batteries? I dont have access to my system from here, and I would like to know so that I can maybe go buy one somewhere. Thanks.
  15. Hello, I have not been able to get to Reactor Critical for several days now. I have a Geforce based system, and running drivers 6.34 Seems to give most stable results. However I heard some latter versions are better. I cant seem to find a place that has a whole list of drivers. I tried 7.17 with DX8, but that thing sucked totally... Anyone know of a good site with database of drivers?

NHL 2001 - Quick game only, no tournament mode

I dont have the game yet, so I cant test it out, but I plan on getting it this week. But Could it be that the game cant access data on an NTFS partition? I remember Quest for Glory MOE had the same problem, also saying that the hard drive was full, and when i installed it on a fat32 partition it worked fine... Anyone test that out? does any body know.........

Yes toby I think so. P Monkey: OK read this CAREFULLY. This is NOT a W-A-R-E-Z board (can you say Warez? I can say warez) What you are asking for is I-l-l-e-g-a-l. Look at the content of message boards before you post something on them. Find yourself a board where all the Warez kiddies hang out, and then ask there. This forum is for people having problems running games on Win NT or 2K. etc.

    Athlon + K7M + W2K = Lockups im Games!

ghackmann, normally i would agree with you, raising the voltage is what i always knew to improve stability especially on an O/C'ed system. It seems however that for the K7M, the lower voltage specifically improves stability. I got that from geforcefaq.com, which i think is one of the best resources out there, even for those who dont own geforce's anyways here is the Q&A as found on that site: Q. I have an Asus K7M or Abit BE6-II motherboard and I have instability or tearing problems with the GeForce. How can I fix it? A. Thanks to Markus Weissmann who told me about this solution from Creative Labs: The Asus K7M has a jumper for selecting the I/O-voltage, which is set to 3.4V by default. Set this to 3.31V (since this is the 'official' voltage for video cards). On the K7M this jumper is on the upper right side, a jumper-block with 4 pins.

    Athlon + K7M + W2K = Lockups im Games!

Guys, If you have tried everything else, and nothing works try this. On your motherboard (helps if you have your manual so you can track it down easier) there is a 4-pin jumper that controls the VIO voltage (juice that goes to your cards). the default for this is the middle position which i believe is 3.4 volts. Change the jumper to the first two positions, so that the voltage is 3.31V Once again it helps if you look in your manual if you are unsure which jumper this is. I have done this, and along with all the other "fixes" my K7M system is much more stable. There are crashes once a few days, but thats relatively normal, compared to the constant crashed i had before. [This message has been edited by mello_j (edited 02 August 2000).]
