Sticky Key's in W2K Poll Survey!!! Please read!!!!

I'm noticing people --increasing-- the sample rate for their keyboard and mouse... NT always had a higher sample rate for each that 9x. You may want to consider slowing the sample rate down. Yes, slowing it down. It's probably going too fast for the game. And one fix was to go to Control Panel/System and set Application Performance priority to Background Services. Given the number of games that exhibit this is limited (i.e. it doesn't happen in every game) doesn't that suggest a game programming issue?
  2. Does anyone have a fix for this other than running in anything-other-than-Glide mode? I'm using a V3-2000 (recently downgraded , Intel P3-450. Sigh. Any ideas welcome. (Running Windows 2000) [This message has been edited by Spong (edited 01 April 2000).]

If you're having problems with disk space detection, the APCOMPAT 2GB option might work for you in the future...

OK. There seem to be a couple of common threads here: 1. Accelerated PS/2 sample rates or USB sample rates cause problems in some games. This may be due to certain assumptions made by the developers of said games about how many samples/sec they're getting. Has anyone tried removing the sample rate customizations and retesting? 2. Rogue Spear and AVP appear to consistently have problems with this, where many other games do not... Doesn't that suggest a problem more with the game than the underlying OS? Have Red Storm or Acclaim announced that they've reproduced the issue and can or can't fix it, or that it's a straight OS issue that somehow 99% of other game developers managed to avoid? I think the answer would be along the lines of "it wasn't designed for NT" so the thread handling may be causing a problem - hence the fix of setting the priority to "background applications" and seeing an improvement. Just my $0.02.

Has anybody actually confirmed that MS know about this? "Well known problem" on this board, but elsewhere? Anyway, P2-400 on AX6BC, 256MB RAM. Intellimouse Explorer (USB), Internet Keyboard Pro (USB), Multimon V3-3000AGP, V3-2000PCI, MX300 (Vortex2 - wish Aureal would release better drivers) No sticky key problem in any game so far. Tried: Extensively: Q3, HL/CS, UT, Sports Car GT. Briefly: Mech3, Ultima9, Homeworld, Doom95.
  6. Re: Sound dropouts: I've had similar issues depending on the background tasks running - for example, that definitely happens when Outlook plays its new mail notification sound. It seems that when the card has transitioned to using DirectX, any "normal" sound call will pull the card out of DirectX mode. The Win2K retail drivers have numerous problems with sound channels missing and IRQ steering among other things, so I'm waiting for Aureal's next driver release before doing anything about it!

    RollerCoaster Tycoon How?

OK, RCT needs to be installed in 98 (my version .164 did anyway) and patched in 98 (the patching program itself generated exception errors) but then it can be coaxed to run under Windows 2000. Woo Hoo! Now I just need to figure out that save game problem!

    RollerCoaster Tycoon How?

Hi there... I have Windows 2000 final, but I can't run RollerCoaster Tycoon under it...? It installs fine, but then when launched says "Sorry, not supported under Windows NT". I did a clean install of Win2000. Running Apcompat and selecting Win98 brings up a message "Debugger Detected - Try again without the debugger". Is there a trick to getting this to work?
