No. It will never ever work and Lexmark has stated that they will never ever build a driver for it. I sold mine (for $30) and bought an HP932C, which is an awesome printer.

Apparently, M$ knew this was going to happen and did nothing about it ! Check this out: http://www.wininformant.com/display.asp?ID=2852

They are firewall programs, Deadcats. I also noticed that after I installed SP1, that I simply could not connect to the Internet or ICQ. I lowered the security setting in Zonealarm from high to medium for the Internet, and then everything worked. I'm sure Zonealarm (and Blackice)will release some kind of patch for this. Looks like M$ has tightened the security on Win2k and it seems to have affected firewall programs. Other than that, SP1 installed great.

Looks like you're right Schmoe. I looked high and low for anything on this today and got nowhere. Oh well, hurry up and wait.

Good question Inferno. From what I've heard, this is quite a hefty download, so I imagine a lot of folks will be requesting it on CD, but I plan to download it, if I can, as I have cable.

Just a heads up that SP1 for Win2k will be released for download tomorrow, July 17.

Boot your PC off the Win2k Pro CD and try a repair. Is your new mobo identical to the one that went bad ? If not, good chance you have a different chipset from your old mobo. Also, check your BIOS settings for your hard drive.

Uninstall those new VIA drivers. I had nothing but problems with those on my system, even though my mobo manufacturer says they are compatible with my board. Good luck.

OK, I figured out the problem. It ended being my Ultra66 controller card. I'm runnin a super7 mobo, and it only supports ATA-33, but my drive is ATA-66, thus the controller card. Once I connected everything back to my mobo controllers, it restarts and reboots from Win2k just fine. Bye-bye Ultra66.

This is a weird one. When I click on start, then shutdown, and choose either "restart the computer" or "shut down the computer", it goes through all the motions that it should and then just sits there and gives me a blank screen. On the shutdown, it may very well be trying to diplay "it is now safe to shut off your computer", but I can't see nuthin. If I hit the reset button at this point, it reboots up OK without going through diskcheck. I could probably live with this, except when I want it to "restart", it doesn't restart ! Has anybody out there in the free world had or heard of this problem before ?? Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

I didn't have much luck with the new VIA drivers. You're right, it's typical that you can't install them under Win2k, so I installed under Win98SE (dual bootin with Win2k)and got an error message on reboot that said it couldn't find win.com ! Once I restored win.com and rebooted, I got a bunch of vxd errors. Checked my mobo website prior to install and they endorse them for my Shuttle HOT591P. My advice is don't bother !

Hi People, I keep getting a BSOD when I play Q3 Arena. It's basically a STOP error message that identifies file el90xbc5.sys. My old NIC died on me recently and was given a new NIC by my ISP cable provider. I blew away the old drivers in \\winnt\system32\drivers and \\winnt\system32\dllcache and installed the newest drivers from 3COM. Lots of BSOD, so I reverted to the "signed" drivers on the Win2k disk. All is well except for Q3. My system is AMD K6-2 450, 128 RAM, 13 GB HD, and dual booting Win98 SE on C and Win2k Pro on D. Both FAT32. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hey thanks for the suggestions, but turning on APM gave me this Stop error on shutdown "unexpected_kernel_mode_trap" It then did a memory dump and rebooted. Also tried the registry edit and it made no difference at all. Thanks
