    Auto-Insert Notification

auto-insert notification is generally a good thing to turn off with CDR software. windows will try mount the CD after the first track is burned (not a problem for only data cds, but it is for audio). results in a coaster.. ezcd disables this by default (I believe, ezcd 3.5 did under win98).

smp Q3 problems. can you help?

I haven't had any problems with Q3 not working (don't use it in SMP mode), but other GL apps like 3D studio hard freeze with multiple CPUs with nvidia drivers. For the time being, go into device manager and change "Computer to Uniprocessor MPS system" until nvidia has fixed the driver problems. If you are using dual celerons, you will probably notice a bit of a speed increase because the limited l2 cache is no longer playing handshake with the 2nd CPU.

    StrarCraft

It's cause you are using a pyrAt version of Starcraft. NT4 & 2000 both complain of missing required files (whereas 98 didn't). Buying a legit copy will fix it for you. And yes, people in my dorm had this problem with burned copies, so I'm not just being a dick

    Netgear

Are you using a cable modem/dsl at all? Check the IPs of each machine (assuming they are real, not 10.x.x.x etc) and make sure they are all running through the same gateway. If they aren't, each packet on your lan is being routed out through the cable modem, then back in. To fix it, do a "route add [computer#1IP] [yourComputerIP]" (I think, I'll check it when I get home), and so on. You need to add each machines IP to your machines routing table. I have 2 310TX cards (1 in 2k server, 1 in 98), and both machines had different @home assigned gateways. This fixed it for me.

    Piracy...

totally agree (but didn't want to be the first to bring it up - I'm a llama, sue me ;p) one of the main reasons I stopped visiting #win2000 and #windows2000 (efnet) was because of piracy. i have to disagree with you about running server at home though. terminal services (only in server and above) is a really nice feature that I wish was included in pro. I do agree with you on advanced server. if you really need that, your office should have the budget to afford it, since they can obviously afford 8way xeon machines to use it.

    TNT Lockups

I have a dual celeron 500 machine (not overclocked) on a Tyan Thunder 100 board, and I get a fair number of freezes when changing from my normal desktop res (1600x1200) to q3 (1024x768) with a geforce.

    w2k data corruption?

Anyone have problems with data corruption reading and writing files under windows 2000? ie: I copy a zip file from my C: to my D: (or any of the other partitions split across 2 drives), and the target zip will have CRC errors, where as the source file doesn't. I've tried this (all using DMA, and w/o DMA) under Windows 2000 (store boxed version), NT4, Win98, and Linux (also tried this across ext2 and fat32 partitions, no problem). The only OS that has this data corruption is windows 2000, so I don't think it's failing harddisks. I have tried this with both DMA mode, and Pio mode. Both will generate errors. Tyan Thunder 2 (lx mobo) dual p2-400s (overclocking is bad hehe ) 448 MB also, any other Quadro users out there know how to make SI, 3dsmax and opengl work happily together?
