    w2k and quadri-Xeon

Thanks for that... I found something at MS press, which I downloaded and it's quite interesting. The name is 'Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Performance tuning guide'. And yes, we use SQL server (not Oracle). No offense huh ? Cheers and thanx Louissan
  2. Hi all, I just got this quadri-cpu monster. Inside: - Quadri PIIIXeon 700 / 2 MB cache - 4 GB ECC RAM - RAID disk arrays The beast is to be used for FAST SQL database access. Enven though we know it's to run efficiently, we're looking for URLs or websites which could tell us how to fine-tune performance for heavy random read/write accesses in a database environment. Thanx for your help Cheers Louissan

Easy CD Creator and Yamaha 8824S

It does'nt even recognize CDs ... I drag-drop the files under Easy CD, and click 'record' ... 'Please Insert a Disc with Sufficient space'. Hey man, this is ONLY 500 MB of data. 'Please Insert a Disc with Sufficient space'. All right, i'll try with a 700 MB disc. 'Please Insert a Disc with Sufficient space'. ARRGGGGGHH That's about it. It just cant see ANY inserted CD ... i wonder if the soft should be upgraded - we got the lastest version, though (smth like 4.02). I'm beginning to wonder whether this CD writer even supports 700 MB writing. .. or even writing at all!!! Cheers

Easy CD Creator and Yamaha 8824S

Hello everyone Well we've bought this wonderful yamaha CD-RW writer ... ans IT SUCKS !!! We called Yamaha support and they swapped it against a new one (how nice) (one that works) .. well at least the new model was SUPPOSED to work. So two solutions: either Yamaha sells bad hardware (be polite and watch your mouth), or our configuration under Easy CD Creator isn't that good. The software cant even recognize 700 MB discs, and won't even detect the presence of 640 MB discs under Nero 5.xx. So what's the deal? Shall I send it back AGAIN and wait for one week AGAIN????????? If anyone has got a solution, i'll be glad to hear it! Cheers everyone Os used: win2000 CPU: PIII866 i guess

    TBird and SMP ?

Hello everyone ... Well, I've had a dual-PII400@448 running under Win2k for quite some time now and I'm still very pleased by its performance ... But it will soon be time for an upgrade!!! (sheeeesh) So I'm pondering over what to choose: - Buy two PIII 800 once the PIV is out (nice price/performance ratio I guess) - Buy one or two (my wallet won't like it) PIV once they're out ... and if the potential dual-processor mobos are out and support DDR-SDRAM ... - Buy from AMD !! Mind you, my problem is that I have fallen in LOVE with dual-processing!! It's just waaaaaaaaaay faster for all these demanding tasks such as Excel and Word an UltraEdit (arf! just kiddin'!! ). Anyway, does AMD plan to release any dual-processing chipsets in the future for their TBird CPU? And if so, will the price/performance ratio be interesting? That's it!! Any suggestions, or ideas or whatever, are welcome. Thanks

    Real-time MPEG Encoding

hammer_one, I do not think i can help, but i have a problem that seems very close to yours. Here it is : I'm looking for a codec (w2k compatible) that could exploit the hardware acceleration of a, say, Miro MP10 or DV300 card. My goal is to transform an MPEG-2 video stream and turn it into a .avi or .mpeg file. Any solution ? So far, it seems to me that the drivers for these cards use codecs that are NOT compatible with w2k. runs perfectly on NT 4.0, but that's another story, huh ? Cheers Louissan

Upload music into my Rio 500 ?

Mouais .... Ca commençait a être bien en français ! I'll try and be serious next time I happen to be posting something. Sorry buddies ! Anyway, anyone has a solution to this problem? Except, of course, that of re-installing win98 ? All in all, the rio 500 is a GREAT product. It's just a shame Diamond (upsorry ... S3) hasn't released anything for w2k yet. Wait and See, as they say... My config: Quadri-Xeon 500 1 GB RAM WildCat 4100 Adaptec AHA 2940U2 Four 10000 rpm, 36 GB U2 drives And tons of other things if you like to ! Cheers

    SCSI RAID

Hi there, I plan to purchase an adaptec RAID controller, the cheap one: AAA 131U2. But I heard RAID was not quite supported by W2k, especially SCSI RAID. So, I am to use W2k server or W2k workstation-equivalent ? If I choose the first solution, will AGP and other multimedia stuff still be supported ? Cheers
  10. Lager Have you pressed THE F1 key lately ?? I will be sincere and tell you that I know this works with WinDVD. The tabs in DVDGenie are applications-specific: in other words, CineMaster, WinDVD, PowerDVD, Xing etc. can more or less be "finetuned" with DVDGenie... If I had to give an answer, I'd say: download DVDGenie, and try it on your system ... WinDVD 2000 is great, good-looking. (But I bet other apps are too...). If it worked under win9x, why not under W2K, huh ? Cheers
  11. Hello dfennig, Your problem interest me as I have an Aureal w/ optical output. I don't know if our machines can be compared but what I know is that I can enable the output by using DVDGenie (latest version) on WinDVD 2000. An option in DVDGenie allows you to enable or disable S/PDIF. So I check the little box and S/PDIF works just fine with DVDs. Just go to this site (maybe it can be of some help, if you don't know it already): www.dvdutils.com Cheers

    Nvidia 3.76 Drivers

Well, I just "upgraded" from NT4, and 3d apps run fine (better, in fact), but games have problems. UT runs only in windowed mode, and this sucks. So I look for new drivers. So I check on nvidia's website and find their latest drivers to be 3.68 or somethg. Then I check <this> site, and read about 3.75 or somethg drivers. If the latest drivers work, where can I find them ? And where do they come from ??? I have a dual PII 448, 256 MB RAM, a 2940U2W and (that's the point, but everyone here seems to tell the world what their machines are) a V770 (non-ultra). Right, all I would like is decent performance and appearance for UT and Q3. Gee ...
