    Help with FTP

I want to try and set up a FTP on my computer. I'm running w2k pro at the moment, but also got w2k server, and was thinking about using IIS to set it all up. Just wanted to ask if there is anything particular I should think about. Is 2k pro enough, or should I upgrade to server? I also was thinking of using a Norton Firewall. Since it will be a pure FTP, do I need to open more than port 20/21 in the firewall? Is there any page (other than this, of course;) with help/tutorials/hints for putting up a FTP? I know this is a lot of questions, but basicly, I just wanna know if there is any "typical" holes to fall in when setting up an FTP, or anything u must NOT do. ANY help will be deeply appreciated!!!
  2. I don't have a solution to your problem straight out, but what about logonscripts? Try www.kix32.com, a pretty easy but powerful logonscript. U can also go to www.thethin.net, with lots of terminal server stuff. Hope this helps at least a little!
  3. Use an static IP instead! U should get rid of the error message, and speed up the startup!

    Slow down the PC

Is there any way to fool older games to belive that the computer is slower than it is? I've gotten X-com: UFO defense to work, but to try and turn around on the map with a Athlon 750MHz.... It's a little fast, to say it at least! So does anyone know of such a program? I think I've heard of it, but don't remember the name of it. ------------------ AMD Athlon 750MHz ASUS K7V ASUS V6800 PURE 128MB 133RAM 20,5 GB IBM HD

    Overcloking on an Asus K7V

I was just wondering, I got an Asus K7V and a 750MHz Athlon. Is there any way to overclock the CPU without opening the case of the CPU and change the jumpers there? I wouldn't mind a little more juice out of my system without spending any money on it (hey, who wouldn't???). Does anyone know any other way of juicying up this system? I've done some with the SW drivers, but is there any "smart" HW way? Also, I've used Powerstrip to force my GeForce to AGP 2x (I think I need a newer BIOS to get 4x?) but it still says AGP not available in the Dxdiag. Is this just MS bulls*** or is there more that must be done? My spec: Athlon 750MHz Asus K7V mobo, rev. 1006 BIOS Asus V6800 Pure 300W power supply IBM 20.5GB HD SB Live! 1024 W2K pro nVIDIA det. 5.32 LW 2 (it works OK so...) Any comments is welcome!

    Asus K7V Errors

Well, have u tried the 4:3 setting? And I know this s****, but try running it with just 1 memorycard. Can be a broken chip, never know what kind of **** things like that can do.

    Asus K7V Errors

I would remove all but the 256MB RAM card. I have heard of ppl having trouble with mixing RAM chips on this MB. Also, according to a post here at NTcompatible, u should set your interleave to 4:3. I use this setting, and have no problem. But then again, I just have one memorycard and it's PC133 so it's hard to compare. My advice: use just the 256MB card and test your system hard.

    Asus K7V Errors

Sounds like memory trouble. U got 384MB? Have just 1 memorycard in, remove the rest. Make sure the DRAM interleave is set to 3-4, not 4-4. Set the RAM speed to 100MHz, instead of by SPD. Is your onboard sound disabled in BIOS? Isn't there a jumper for it as well? Somewhere around the 3 PCI slot there is a jumper, but I don't remember if it's for the sound or the wake-on-lan/modem. ------------------ AMD Athlon 750MHz ASUS K7V ASUS V6800 PURE 128MB 133RAM 20,5 GB IBM HD

    Overcloking on an Asus K7V

I have tried the softjumps, but since the CPU is HWblocked against overclocking, I can't change the CPU speed. The only thing I can do is to set the RAM speed to 124MHz. The stupid thing is that the next speedstep is 143MHz, and my RAM doesn't handle that My videocard is a GeForce256 DDR-RAM (Asus V6800). If I try to activate the Fast Write (powerstrip) the machine just hangs, and I have to do a hard reboot. And it says u can use AGP 4x, but when I try to mark it, nothing happens (also powerstrip) When I built my system, I just followed these points (from NTcompatible) and have had no problems with it. Received the follow messages: 1)There are numerous problems with this motherboard and Nvidia GeForce cards. Win2K will refuse to boot, giving bluescreens, etc. I managed to get mine operating, but it's still somewhat flaky. - Display DIMM interleaving in the BIOS - Run the Nvidia 5.13 driver 2) I had all the same problems when I started, but after I went through some newsgroups, I found out that by disabling the DRAMM Interleave (I think it is set to "auto" by default) it actually works pretty well. 3) Works well but need to change AGP and PCI drivers otherwise you cannot install latest NVIDIA drivers. You need to change them by the AMD751's one. Open the directory Patch/W2000 of the CD and install the patch. Then manually install : AMD751 Processor to AGP Controller AMD751 Processor to PCI bridge Let me know how your building goes, and also if u find anything about the AGP 4x.
  11. Like you said, w2k is NT, and thus the security is very high. When you try to access a 2k machine from a network, the machine u are on will try to log on 2k with the username you used to log on locally. If the 2k machine doesn't recognice the username, it will ask for a password. To get around this, either make a new user with appropriate username on the 2k machine, or simpler, just activate the Guest user account. Then make sure the guest account has access to the right folders, and there should be no problem.

    Power DVD Problem in Win2000

I had the same problem. Never found out why I didn't have that file though. I just copied it from the DVD-ripper called Decc. (I think it is spelled like that)

    Direct X

Win2000 comes with Dx7.0, you don't have to install it. U sure it didn't say Dx7.0a?

    Vampire TMR Win2k Install Problem

When the installscreen comes up, all looks fine. But when I move the cursor over the options (install, more, quit etc) it moves choppy as &¤%#¤%. It remindes me of the intro on Soldier of Fortune, when u ran it as an administrator (before the patch, that is!). Since I got Win98SE as well, I never bothered to try and install it. If anyone has an idea, I'd sure like to hear it! ------------------ AMD Athlon 750MHz ASUS K7V ASUS V6800 PURE 128MB 133RAM 20,5 GB IBM HD

    GeForce under Win2000

If you are running a Athlon system, you should have a MINIUM power supply of 250W. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything under 300W, then you are sure you have enough! ------------------ AMD Athlon 750MHz ASUS K7V ASUS V6800 PURE 128MB 133RAM 20,5 GB IBM HD

    Soldier of Fortune Problems

This is a OpenGL problem. Follow this instruction, and it should work! It did for me. Windows 2000 & Detonator 2 OpenGL fix [Comments] by Thomas McGuire @ 16:53 Those of you out there who are experiencing crashes in Opengl games such as Soldier of Fortune (e.g. GLimp_EndFrame() - SwapBuffers() failed!) after installing the Detonator 2 drivers for Windows 2000 will need to fix it using this procedure. 1. Click, Start, Run. 2. Type in regedit & hit Enter. 3. Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\OpenGLDrivers]. Delete the RIVATNT subkey. 4. Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\OpenGLDrivers] & make a New String Value entitled RIVATNT & give it a value of nvoglnt. Thanks to the nVidia newsgroup (unknown_error in particular) for mentioning the basic fix _Update_ - Step 4 has changed! UT works in OpenGL Also, if u update the game (v1.04, i think) you don't have to run it as a power user, u can run it as an administrator as well. Next time, use the "search" button, this is all standing here already! ------------------ AMD Athlon 750MHz ASUS K7V ASUS V6800 PURE 128MB 133RAM 20,5 GB IBM HD

    W2K Dual Monitor

Thats right, PinkPanther, i forgot that. My friend also has to set the display to PCI as primary, and not AGP. Works in 98 with AGP on primary, but not in 2k. Does anybody know why? Drivers? The NT technology itself? ------------------ AMD Athlon 750MHz ASUS K7V ASUS V6800 PURE 128MB 133RAM 20,5 GB IBM HD

    W2K Dual Monitor

Have u tried a ATI card? I haven't tested it myself, but they are generally pretty stable. A friend of mine has a TNT as a second card (GeForce is 1.st) and it works great, no boot problems at all. ------------------ AMD Athlon 750MHz ASUS K7V ASUS V6800 PURE 128MB 133RAM 20,5 GB IBM HD

best program to backup Hard Drive (for w2k)?

Why don't u try a Ghost program? U can then burn it out on a CD or put both HDs in the same machine. I don't now witch is best to use though.

SR1 install prob with language support

I wouldn't be supprised if it is like NT 4.0, it comes out in different languages, aka if u got the french w2k, u must have the french SR. Just wait for the official release, the french will be there a little after the english, I bet.
