my thoughts about the compatibility results

Well, LinuxCompatible would list all applications compatible with Linux wouldn't it? Listing Linux apps as Linux compatible seems kind of redundant if you ask me. NTCompatible was different in that not all windows apps ran under all versions of windows (the FF series comes to mind as having problems with NT/2k/XP). All Linux apps should be compatible with Linux in general, allowing that you meet the apps dependencies. Now, how this site differs from http://appdb.codeweavers.com/ is a completely different question.
  2. AMD CPUs have an issue with corrupt video data which leads to crashing. Try installing the registry patch found HERE

    Trashy right click menu ?!

Open up Windows Explorer: Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types: Scroll down to HTML, and select ADVANCED. This shows you all the options you will have when you right click this file type. Just select the option you want to change (say EDIT) and change the path to the program that that function executes. You'll have to do this for every file type effected. Quake 3 stuck at 60hz refreshrate..?

There's also a file that can be found in the October news archives that fixes the refresh rate problem. For everyone else, he's not talking about fps, he's talking refresh. nVidia cards default to 60Hz unless you set them otherwise using some 3rd party app.

    Anyone tried dx8final + 7.17?

7.17 + DX8 = BAD idea. Games lock up, constant crashes. The only thing that didn't cause a problem was normal 2D desktop usage. 6.47 seems to have fixed the problem. [This message has been edited by DFB (edited 11 November 2000).]

DirectX 8 Out - Whats the scoop?

I'm using DX8, and the Det. 7.17 drivers did nothing but crash when I tried to play a game. Going back to 6.47 seems to have fixed the problem though. Funny how the RC1 didn't have a problem with 7.17 but the final did.

why does my gfx card work in tnt2?!!?!?

www.bootdisk.com may also help if you don't have easy access to a 9x machine (although I'd assume most people would).

    which soundcard

I know nothing about the PCI128, but the AWE64 Value (from experience) works well over all. There are a few catches though. Your stuck with the default win2k drivers, and somethings don't work 100% all the time. I had a lot of trouble with the MIC IN, but a format seems to have strangely fixed that problem.

    AWE 64 Gold

A while ago I had difficulties with my AWE64 Value. I've tried ever driver I've been able to find (Win9x, WinNT4, etc) and have found none to work, and most to generate larger problems. I'm afraid us AWE 64 card users are out of luck. On a side note, I did find that a format and complete reinstall fixed my problem (VERY loud crackling when using a microphone, unusable before the format). Force icons into systray

Trayer does this. I used to use it with the NT Command line for Seti@Home. I've never actually tried it with windows apps, but I'd assume it works just as well as it does for dos windows. http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10105-100-1541861.html?tag=st.dl.10001_103_1.lst.td_1541861

Not really a good solution, but this may be helpful. Try going to www.vcdgear.org It allows you to convert from dat to mpg (among other things)

60 FPS in HL , no more, no less?

Well to add to this.... Your frames are being capped by your refresh rate (Stuck at 60 Hz as explained in the last thread). 1st you can change your refresh rates as show in the links, but ALSO you have to turn off VSync. VSync, when on, will NEVER let your fpx go above your refresh rate. Goto the display properties (right click -> properties from the desktop), and choose the "Settings" tab. Then click on the "Advanced", then "GeForce 256" (In my case, I ASSUME it has GeForce DDR, TNT2U, etc depending on your card), then additional properties, and goto the "OpenGL Settings". You want to change the "Vertical sync" option from "On by default" to "Always off". Your fps shouldn't be stopped by your refresh rate anymore.

    Halflife / Counter-Strike Tweak/HL removal

http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?file=46202 Half-Life Dedicated Server The above is all that is required for a dedicated server. Just extract the CS patch to the server folder your set.
  18. Ok, I'm using the default drivers that Win2k installs during the original install. No output problems, the card works better then it ever did in Win9x. BUT, I've just started to try to use Roger Wilco during my CS games, and the incoming sound is terrible. It is impossible for me to understand myself, let alone my fellow gamers. There is a ton of static, and the sound cuts in and out. It DOES work under Win98 (have a dual boot going) but I'd much prefer having it go through Win2k as my 9x drivers are required for TV-Out, and they suck for gaming. (Asus v6600 Deluxe). I have tried going to NT4 drivers, that managed to crash IE right after startup EVERY time. After restoring I tried to install 9x drivers, which was a no go, refuses to even start the installation. (I know these sys specs are low, but my performance is fine, just audio in problems). System Config: P2-266 128Mb ASUS v6600 Deluxe SB AWE64 Value 10 Gb HDD + 6GB HDD (both WD) Win2k + Win98 Dual boot Any suggestions would be appreciated. This isn't that big a deal (I don't have to use roger wilco), but it would be nice to get working properly.

Nvidia drivers for GF and WinMe?

This may be dumb, but you are using the Win9x and NOT the Win2k/NT Detonators right? WinME is a 9x kernel OS. (Sorry if you already know this)

Which driver for ASUS V6600 Deluxe GeForce?

My v6600 Deluxe runs great on the nVidia 5.22 Detonator 2 drivers. Unfortunately, with these drivers you can't use any of the deluxe features. I've found all ASUS drivers I have tried to use refuse to let me change the refresh rate from 60 Hz.

    Direct3d & Voodoo2 ???

3dfx has 2 drivers released, ones that only support Glide and OpenGL, or ones that only support Direct3D. The Direct3D ones are garbage, they don't support SLI, SMP, or passthru. Meaning that its either a dual monitor setup, or you'll be switching cables when you want to use D3D. The Glide/OGL drivers however do support passthru, sli, and smp so I'd stick with them. I'm afraid D3D is best used through Win98.

    Outlook with Dual boot.

I have no idea about the first part, but to get Win98 and 2k to share a favourites folder, you can use TweakUI to redirect win2k to the win98 folder. Under the "My Computer" tab, there is "Special Folders". Just use the pulldown to select "Favourites", hit the "Change location" button, and then change it to "C:\WINDOWS\Favorites" (assuming that windows is installed to C and in the Windows folder). That should do it. Sorry, I don't have a link to TweakUI, but I'm sure that a quick search on a search engine will find it.
