    Which 815 motherboard?

I think I'd have to agree with ya on that one ByronT... I was def. guilty of tweak'n the board (the whole reason for getting it was to tweak). 700FC up to 933. I wouldn't doubt that loading default settings in the BIOS would avoid that. As soon as I flashed it to 1002 and had a blank pc staring me in the face, I thought that I should've done that. Anywayz ... x2

    Which 815 motherboard?

One word of warning if you flash to 1002 as per ByronT's recomendation. I also am using 1002, but I had a problem that a lot of other fellow CUSL2 owners have suffered. After applying the BIOS update, I rebooted to a black 'nothing' screen...... i.e. the system would not boot. The fix I found out by trial, was to take the CMOS battery out for 10 minutes. After that, all ran just fine under 1002. Also, go to Intel's site and install the 2 win2k patches (.inf and hd controllers)for the 815 chipset. L8r

Looking for a Win2k Friendly GamePad

Hey Mark, I'm with CuViper, I have the Xterminator USB and it works fine with the drivers that 2k uses for it. The only quirk I have is in calibration. At first, when I checked to see if I got full movement for the axis on the left thumb controller (joystick part), I didn't. I went and recalibrated using raw data, and holding short of going full deflection on some of the axis. After that, I went back to test if I had full movement and bingooo !

PC133 memory with 800/100MHz core OK?

Think of it as a "Its certified to go at least this fast" kind of a rating... In other words ... you'll have no problem. -Andersony

    All Hail ASUS

The Asus drivers for the 7700 don't work ... they load ok, but the desktop will crash and reload, winamp gets all garbled, etc... Not that I was expecting much Tried the Asus 3.84 drivers, but they didn't support AGP, nor did they support driectdraw.. Still, the Asus 3.79 drivers work like a charm. I just don't have use of my S-Video port.. I figure I'll have to have Herc drivers for that, and Herc's 3.78 drivers don't support them either. -Andersony [This message has been edited by Andersony (edited 19 August 2000).]

    All Hail ASUS

Also, I've noticed that most of the problems like mine are with 2k and Via chipsets ... can anyone back this up ?

    All Hail ASUS

AGP isn't enabled? ... I checked dxdiag, which showed AGP as ENABLED. Is that what your talking about, or just in the actual driver itself ? Again, note that I compared these drivers to the det. 3 drivers and received the same performance. Help me see the light brothaaa ... -Andersony

    All Hail ASUS

Asus is my bud for awhile... I had a TNT2 Ultra using 5.22 drivers. Things worked good for the most part, a couple of answered reboots a month. Then I went to an Asus 6800 (GF DDR), using the Nvidia reference drivers, 5.x's. My system would pull answered reboots every day. When I went to Asus's own 3.79 drivers, my problems ended. In fact, I was able to run 3.5 months without a single unanswered reboot. And then, I tried a Creative Labs GeForce2. This time I was getting unanswered reboots every 10 minutes. I used Nvidia's 5.x, 6.x (det. 3) drivers, along with Creative's own set... NO JOY ! REboot City ! I returned the CLGF2 and traded it for a Prophet II GTS 32MB (GF2 also). Same results. So, I started reading about everone else's misfortunes. Hopeing to find a solution. I read things like the AGP port may not be giving the card enough power, to some of your basic tweeks and settings (4x,2x,1x - sidebanding, BIOS settings, etc., manually pulling out all the drivers and registry settings.) that have worked for others with the same problem. I was just about to give up, when I noticed if I left the card running as VGA, my system would run and run and run.... So, I downloaded Asus's 3.79 drivers from their web site (even though, they are for a GF DDR) and installed them through device manager, ignoring the 'not written for your card' warnings.... and I'm back and running solid (at least for a week - with no reboots). Performance wise, I play GP500 a lot and benchmarked this current setup vs. the det 3 drivers (before the system would get a crash in), and actually gained .5 fps (heh)... Praise ASUS's driver team !!! I was thinking about going to their 7700 drivers (their GF2), but I just want to run solid for awhile before I take the chance. Anybody have any comments... solutions? I have of course lost my S-Video. So if there is a better way, I may give it a shot. -Andersony Herc. Creative Labs GF2 GTS and Win2K

Sorry I didn't see this earlier guys... You can get rid of the glitches your talking about by moving that little slider bar back one on your hardware acceleration for the video card. The only thing you'll loose is mouse functions (it tells you when you slide it back one). Unlike 9x, you will find this bar in display properties > settings > advanced > troubleshooting. -Andersony [This message has been edited by Andersony (edited 10 August 2000).]

    Diamond Supra MAX USB

You might try the beta drivers from Diamonds web site (www.diamondmm.com), but I seem to remember someone saying they had problems with them ...? Do a search of this site to check that I used the Lucent56k USB drivers found under the Compaq section for add modems. This solution worked great for me on a number of USB modems that use the Lucent chipset (CNet USB, Supra USB, etc), until I installed the Hotfix for Win2k. Now it doesn't show up in the list... but my modem that was installed prior to putting the fix on, still works fine.

    Windows 2000 Service Pack 1

I was looking through the system requirements of Windows 2000 ... I can't seem to find the part that says you must be Rich and have a T1 or OC-3 ? I did read the readme.txt file in the WINNT subdirectory that listed a bunch of people that MS considers "TOOLS" and these people arent allowed to have the operating system. They have reference to these "tools" as calling in before saying that the coffe tray retracted or some dip$hit thing like that ... and what do ya know - Rocko is on list! So turn in your copy Rocko ... MS says SO !

How are you configured (protocols, Domain, Workgroup, etc.) Where you able to see the other computers to make your drive mapping to begin with, or did you map it via the Command Line, or What ?? ... If you search for the computers do they show up ? Give us something to work with here Bubba !

    Internet via Network

Actually, I should have been a little bit more clearer (hence, my edit on my post) for ya Rudyatek... I edited the bottom to show that those configurations were for whichever host your using (in your case 2k). Thats exactly what CUViper was clearing up about my post... Internet via Network

First of all, Exstreme is correct... This is documented quite well in the help file. If 98se machine is to be the host, install ICS from Add/Remove programs - Windows Setup - Internet Stuff - ICS... It will walk you through making the setup. If it seems f'd up and you want to configure things manually (I prefer manually, cuz DHCP screws up some systems I've set up): TCP/IP setup: Host machine must have an IP of 192.168.0.1 (2k and 98se). Clients should have IP's of 192.168.0.x Use a subnet mask like 255.255.255.0. All clients must have the default gateway set to 192.168.0.1 Enable the DNS, give each computer a Host name (doesn't matter what), don't worry about the domain, but put in DNS server #'s from your ISP (u can use ipconfig /all for 2k, and winipcfg for 98se, after hookn to your ISP to find them). Make sure your clients are set to never dial a connection in IE. The host should be set to Always dial your default connection (which should be configured to automatically connect and know your password - unless you only want to share when you manually connect). If you have 98se as HOST: Check sharing configuration on the host in IE, also under connections - down on the bottom (if you don't see this ICS isn't installed - see top) If you have 2k as HOST: In Network and Dial-Up connections, in the properties for your ISP connection, under the sharing tab, put check marks in the approp. boxes.
