    Outlook mail files?

Hi all, I recently had a hard drive failure. Fortunately I have backups. However my question is - I had Outlook as a mail client. Now i have \program...\office\ etc backed up. But after re-installing Outlook, which files do I need to get my mail folders (there were multiple folders) back? Thanks, Steve

No idea on how to fix this but it's annoying. Garbage but machine still pklays mpg and also is responsive... Anyone any ideas?

    EAX not working correct

Same problems here - dual PIII w/ 256 RAM running pro - sblive becomes very inconsistent in UT - sound drops etc. Does it maybe have anything to do with the amount of voices? Or the amount of simultaneous waves which can be played? Also does anyone know of a good UT sound player, I like the songs.... Cheers, Steve

    Win2000 vs Linux

What's so great about linux huh? Well let's see. It's free. 0 dollars. $0. How much does Windows2k pro go for? Around 250 for a full version I believe. Secondly I have three machines. One Dual PIII 500 - running win2k. Why? Because I use Windows apps etc for coding / playing games / e-mail etc. etc. However my other two machines are linux. One is a firewall at home, a pentium 100 w/ 16 megs of ram. It's been up for 162 days now, no maintenance, and with those specs 2k wouldn't even boot. The other machine is hooked up to the network and my stereo in another room. I can remotely telnet in, play mp3's etc, and even use an xserver for windows to login graphically. Linux does not fit all applications for all people. if it does the job for you, use it you will like it. And with the advent of such distributions as Corel and Mandrake it is not thatr hard to use. But IMO if u are gonig to use a computer seriosuly u might as well know how to operate your system. reading is a good thing. Cheers, Steve

How much ram should win2k take up ?

While we're on the topic.... Why is that when I boot up w/ minimal background programs running, I start with 76 used. However after launching a couple of programs etc. and closing thwem again, the system is usually up to around 90~100. Now this isn't too big of a deal, but I am still curious as to why this happens, and any way to remedy it. Cheers, Steve

How much ram should win2k take up ?

100 sounds awefully high to me. Is this a workstation? Mine boots w/ 78 meg w/ nothing running. If you are running pro or server trying turning off some of the services. Are you sure you don't have anything else running? Seti takes up quite a chunk-o-ram. Cheers, Steve

    Software RAID Solution

Greetings, My current set up is as follows: Win2k Pro, Dual PIII 500, 128M RAM, one 6 gig HD and a 13 gigger. Currently, C Drive where win2k is installed is 6 gig's, half of the 13 gigger. D is a software RAID drive of 12 Gigs, the 6 that's left from the 12 and the other 6 gigger. Is this a decent setup? Striping RAID btw. is there anyway to install on software raid? Cheers, Steve

HOW BIG SHOULD THE SWAP FILE BE ??

OH ****! You have the AND the min set to 200? By doing so you have limited the amount of ram and the OS is gonna start thrashing disk like crazy cause the hard drive to catch on fire and send electrical pulses through the nieghbourhood causing each microwave to emit deadly rays killing all. On a more serious note that sounds fine to me. I suggest everyone reads the FAQ and ntfaq.com they have a section on swap files. I have mine placed on two drivers, and i havwe a total of 256 MB (I have 128 RAM). This seems to work fine. IMO if your computer works and it works ok then you're swap file is probably fine.

Unreal Tourn / Server vs. Pro

Hey all, I am curious, are there any major difference between server and pro in terms of low level kernel coding? I mean if you run Server w/ all services turned off etc. other than the ones that professional runs, is it basically the same OS other than licensing cost etc? I know NT Server and Workstation were the same basically, is this still the case? 2nd, minor problem, when trying to play unreal it insists my CD isn't in the CDROM even though I am sure it is, I've tried both of em. It doesn't seem to find it? Cheers, Steve

Seeing a reply got me all hot and bothered oh well. Yes indeed it is. Someone on IRC suggested some kind of secuirty setting not allowing people to change the background? Anyone? Cheers, Steve

    Disappearing Backgrounds?

Guys, I don't know what I did, but this is the weirdest probelm ever. I right click on the desktop, and select properties. Now usually the first tab would be to select the background. It is not there. The first one is screen saver, followed by appearance, web, effects and settings. Where the hell did my background properties go? Cheers, Steve
