I have done a search on this problem but haven't found a suitable answer so I am going to start this thread. I have 2 computers running Windows XP and one running Windows ME. They are all connected together by a Barricade router and access the internet through the router to a cable modem. Here is the problem: I can access the internet with all the machines. When I have all the machines booted up and running all is well. As soon as I shut down the ME machine the other machines lose the network. I can still access the internet but when I go to "My Network Places" it takes a long time to see the workgroup and then it doesn't find any machines on the network. If there are any shortcuts in the folder I can use those to connect to the other machines but I can't see the machines. Strange? I think it has to do with my WINS configuration but I do not know what to change. BTW - I do have DHCP enabled.

I have a WinTV USB and am having trouble with getting ANY sound. The picture is perfect but I have no sound. I have tried everything that you guys have mentioned but it still doesn't work. I have the "Line out" on the WinTV hooked into the "Line in" on my Sound Blaster Live sound card.

You don't have to load any software to get the pad to work. Go to "Settings", "Control Panel", "Gaming Options". Click on the " Add" button. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. The third joystick from the bottom is the one you are looking for. "Microsoft Sidewinder (Auto Detect) Click on it and WHAM, BAM, Thank you Ma'am you are up and fraggin'.

I did the changes in all the config files. I put in "3dfxgl", started the game and had it crash in the same area. It gives me an error when it dies though. It seems to be a memory problem. I can't imagine why it is crashing but I guess that is what you get when you wait for a game for 3 years. HAHA

I too am having the same problem. The game keeps crashing after the first small area. I have loaded DirectX 8 and have messed with the config file (I think I messed with the correct one) Could you please give a little more insight as to what you had to do to get the game to run? You don't have file and print sharing enabled? I have found that the people at Cox@home have absolutely no clue as to what they are talking about. As a matter of fact I had my modem die on me a couple of weeks ago and the tech that came out said he had only seen a couple of computers with Windows 2000 on them. I had to show him how to set it up. (Now that is scary) As far as games go, I have my one machine set up with 2 NIC cards and hooked into the cable modem. (Like I described in the earlier post) It has the computer name that Cox@home gave me and I have different accounts on it (1 for me and 1 for the wife). I then have my machine that is hooked into the hub and it is named whatever I want. I just had to make sure that my workgroup was @home. My wife can see me, I can surf the web through her machine, we play games together all the time, and there is very little degredation of speed on the net. Heck, most sites are slow anyway, I have found that I will never use all of the bandwidth that I have with a cable modem and I highly doubt that 4 machines will do it either. Give it a shot and have all 4 of you surfing and see if it slows anything down. Post your results because I am curious myself. Thanks.

Here is how I did it: Put 2 NIC cards in one machine. Now take the cable modem and hook it into one of the NIC cards. Take a line and hook the 2nd NIC card to the hub. You should now have all 4 computers hooked to the hub and 1 hooked into the cable modem. You should be able to use internet connection sharing on the 1st NIC card. (The one that goes out to the cable modem) Hope this helps.

By looking at your specs, you both should be flying through the game. I am going to do a little research tonight and will post anything I find.

I went into the game this morning and realized that I am running it in default OpenGL also. I tried to run it in 3DFX OpenGL but it kept kicking me back into the default mode. What are your specs on your machines? I finished the game in about a week with my system and it never bogged down at all. What is the video card make and model? What drivers are you using? I am running a Voodoo3 2000 PCI with the newest drivers from 3DFX and have had no problem running soldier of fortune. Give us a little more info and maybe we can narrow this problem down for you.

Yes, a Voodoo3 card works great in a dual monitor system. I was running with a Voodoo3 2000 PCI and a crappy old 4 MB card for a little while and it worked flawlessly.

Borland 5.0 works great. BTW So does VB 6.0

I can understand yuor frustration with your system but you shouldn't take it out on the OS. Windows 2000 is stable. Most of the drivers that are floating around the internet are NOT. I can tell you, from personel experience, that Winblows 98 used to crash everyday whenever I would update my drivers. So don't blame the OS. Blame the hardware drivers. BTW Been running 2000 for awhile now and I have had hardly any problems with the operating system. Most of my troubles have occured when I am tweaking something or messing with BETA drivers.

I got the picture to work on this crazy thing but now I can't get any sound. I have a Sound Blaster live MP3+ sound card with the newest drivers. Did I forget to load something?
