    DirectCD in Win2k

I too would like to know where to find that patch. This is the only thing left not working in my Win2k system. Thought I had DirectCD working (until I tried to erase some files using Windows Explorer) It gives me the same "read only media" crap. JK

    Question about W2k Version.

I remember reading quite awhile back that someone wanted to know how to remove the Windows evaluation and Version info from the desktop. I would like to know how this could be done, I searched through the messages but could not find the post. Any info on how to remove it would be helpful. Also, everytime I open Windows Explorer it defaults to opening "My Documents". How can I go about setting the default back to "My Computer" as it was in Win98? (I know stupid questions, probably something simple I overlooked) Thanks in advance!

    Question about W2k Version.

Yeah, I was using it (ADT) back when I still used RC2. But, it only kicks in when Win2k loads the personalized settings. And the amount of system resources it uses to make the version info disappear just isn't worth it to me anymore. It'll go away on it's on in couple of months anyway (when I upgrade to the final code).

    Question about W2k Version.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Windows keyboard. No Windows Keys.

How do i remove the build# from the desktop

I'm not sure how to remove it permanently. But, under display properties, if you change your desktop to active and uncheck the option to show home page on desktop, the version/ build info will disappear after login. JK

You weren't kidding when you said dreams were your reality! But, I like it! If your gonna dream, DREAM BIG! Personally I want this: http://www.digital.com/alphaserver/gs140/gs140.html Namely because a Cray or CrayII won't run any OS that I know and use. JK

    Multiproccessing

Yes! Multiprocessing does really increase your performance. As long as certain conditions are met. 1)OS must be multiprocessor capable 2)The application you work with uses the power of additional CPU. You will still see a slight profermance increase even if your application doesn't use multiprocessing, due to the fact that OS (Win2k) does use multiprocessors. But enough babbling. I believe, (unless I'm wrong), that what you what to know is: Is it a cost effective performance increase? Will dual PII 400s show a higher performance increase than an upgrade to PIII 600 and/or more memory? In my humble opinion. No. It won't. I'm currently running dual PII 400s. And I personally notice no difference in performance from when I was running a single PIII 450. In fact, the single PIII 450 seemed to perform better. IMHO. JK

    Multiproccessing

I would have to agree. You would probably find adding memory would be more helpful at this point. Keep in mind. That if you do decide to go with a dual motherboard later, you need to make sure your memory is registered memory, if you want more than 512Meg. Also, if you wait until the 840i boards are available in mid to late December, the prices for dual BX and GX boards should come down. If you want the latest, the new boards coming out from Supermicro and Tyan are very sweet. Namely the P3DM6 and the S2232 Thunder2000. Just wish they would come out with dual Athlon boards If you do get a newer PIII and don't know what to do with your old PII400, maybe you could find someone to buy it..... ....hint, hint

    Question about W2k Version.

Finally figured out how to get Windows Explorer to open to My Computer's C: Drive. In the WINNT directory, there are two explorers listed. One is an .exe(computer icon) and the other is a .scf(folder and magnifying glass icon). If you change the property to target the explorer.scf. It will open to the C: drive instead of My Documents. I knew it would be something simple!

    F*****g ASPI drivers

If your lucky enough to get them, 4.60 build (1020), works well in my system, currently burning and rewriting. But then again, I'm using EZCD 4.0 and Direct CD 2.5d.

    Nero 4.0.5.6 and ASPI drivers

Here maybe these will be helpful.

    Problem printing in Win2k

Had the same error while trying to print in Corel Wordperfect 7, turns out there was an incompatability between the printer drivers and Corel WP7, Corel has since released a patch to fix this. My printer is Epson Stylus Color 800. So, I would venture to guess that the same problem is happening with your CD Label software. Just my .02.

    STILL can't dial ISP

The second part of his post says he tried that. What I would like to know is: You say that you are tring to access a second line that your ISP has, Do you have it listed as an alternate phone number for the ISP, or do you have a complete seperate listing under Dial Up Settings? I have a Sh*ty ISP anyway, but I'm tring to recreate your problem.

    Quick easy question!

For someone else maybe....I finally have Win2k RC2 running just the way I want [play my games, watch my DVDs, record my CDs..just no CDRW...no Direct CD ]. Now, I have the ability to create a backup image of my system with the Plextor CD-ResQ software, but it won't run within Win2k like it would in Win9x, I need to create a boot disk. I can't 4 the life of me figure out how to do this. It was simple in DOS and in Win9x, but the only thing I seem able to do in Win2k is create setup disks. Please, just don't tell me I'll have to manually assemble it from scratch. It's been a LONG time since I had to do one and have probably forgoten all the basics. If any of you can help me on this last obsticle, I won't be bothering you gurus again. (Unless u know a way around that 444 exp date thingy ) [This message has been edited by JKstang (edited 07 November 1999).]

    Quick easy question!

Well I had forgotten one basic thing, if you boot from a floppy disk it doesn't matter what's on the hard drive, as long as all hardware drivers are properly loaded, all the devices will work. Thanks alot, a modified Win98 boot disk did the trick. Now I can screw around and try to get Direct CD 2.5 to work. If I hose it, I've got the backup. Again Thanks,

    canon 620p in Win2K RC2

Well, I thought someone in here would know something about it, because I have received alot of help and info from the knowledgeable members of this forum. But, I'll keep my eyes open and my ears to the ground. If I find out anything I let you know. JK

Good New for CD-R software :)

I don't know if they fixed the problems that plagued the first patch, but a new patch for EZ-CD 4.0 is up now on Adaptec's website. After the warning you guys posted, I was afraid to try it. I just did finally get this setup running flawlessly. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

    Question about W2k Version.

Yes! It works great! Now if only I could solve the Windows Explorer quirk, Win2k would be....well no not perfect....far from it actually.... but good enough for me! Time to break out the chainsaw and start hacking away at the registry.

Good New for CD-R software :)

Thanks for the info guys...also does anyone have a direct link to the Update Patch#1? I searched Adaptec's FTP and couldn't find it.

Good New for CD-R software :)

I just acquired Adaptec 4, where can I get the Win2K ASPI drivers...do they come with CDRWIN ver 3.8beta or are they part of RC2?

Network sharing with an Win98 Comp?

It has been my experience that you would have to enable login on the Win98 computer. And add the login user name to the W2K computer's list of users. This also solves the problem of trying to access files on the win2K computer and getting the password prompt.

Help! Ultra/Wide SCSI and SCSI-2 Problems!

Which MB do you have again? I currently am using a P6DGU for the main system. It came w/two 68 pin interfaces on the MB. One for UW and one for U2W. However, you should be able to use the drive if you have a LVD cable. My MB came with one, the only visible difference is that the LVD 68 pin cable has a amp block on the end of it.
