  1. ok right, i've searched the forum but found no post about this one : how do you change the speed of the expand in the explorer tree view. i.e. i drag a file from a directory to another, but since the target directory is under a collapsed one i have to let my cursor over it like 1 sec until it expands. and if i have more than 2 depth levels it takes ages to reach the target directory. can anyone give me a clue on this one.

    WinTV WDM and DirectX 8

:kEViNoPolY i don't know about your rig but i had a pb with 2 asus mobos (p3b-f & p3v4x) the tv tuner card i use needs an irq for sound processing and i remembered that using ACPI on those force use of irq9 for my PCI cards if when you check your device manager it says something like "everything is using irq9" and your tv tuner sound WDM is not working try reverting your computer to "standard PC" it worked for mine.
  3. don't play much games but I remember a small app called NVREFFIX that you can use to set your refresh rates by resolutions in games or any apps using directX on nvidia based vid cards.
  4. "then why do I get S/PDIF grayed out in windvd and power dvd? w/ Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo?" perhaps that's because you're using a OEM version of these software. try DVDgenie. it can enable those greyed-out entries in both DVD players. sometimes they don't display the correct options selected but it should work anyway if your soundcard drivers support it check this link for WINDVD :http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/wdvd_down.html [This message has been edited by youhou (edited 28 October 2000).]

    Not enough memory? My 4$$!

i used to have the same pb. except it was more like "you got a pb, sorry this is an unrecoverable error...and so" in photoshop. I think I read something about p3b-f not handling memory as it should an therefore causing pb with photoshop and some other apps. this sounded odd but i gave it a try and bought a p3v4x and don't have any pb now. don't know if this helps. (by the way does anyone has some unexpected errors about memory when closing apps and actually own a p3bf... I used to have LOTS of them and now since I swapped M/B i don't have any...)

Sblive and 4 speaker support in Win2k (playing DVD's)

[low tone on] hum...I see... you seem to have a OEM version of the DVDPlayer wich are somehow crippled since enabling some of the audio options require licensing. [low tone off] (I like that when I speak like a doctor, it just sounds funny) SO... get DVDGenie. it allows you to select different speakers setup in winDVD and many other. It sure will help!

    Windows Media 7- compact mode

there 's a semi-compact mode in MediaPlayer7 but it sucks big time. and I mean it. you can use the skin "classic" that's the closest you'll get to "compact mode" and it runs when you are viewing videos. but don't get fooled by mediaplayer7 or only if you don't need to: -save the files you just viewed -have a real compact mode. -run multiple instances. -be able to configure the decoders. (you cannot adjust DivX :)properties for example) - some stuff I forgot... but if you like the "eye candy"...the crapy media library... the vis...and the ugly skins... you choose. Memory Enhancements??

go on for SCSI!! U2W or U160 and dedicate a disk for your swap files. That helps! especially if you're working on huge files. also 512Mo seems a reasonable option too... [This message has been edited by youhou (edited 05 October 2000).]

    Problem with nero5.0.2.4

I don't know if this might help but i used to have the same pb. i had a dc390F and a teac 58s writer and nero (and direct CD and CDRwin) wouldn't recognize the CDWriter. so I just took a put a 2940 to replace the tekram and this helped. just in case if you plan on testing another SCSI card put it in, reboot, configure, and THEN remove your older card. It also works with my 29160 now. don't know why but i don't trust tekram cards much now. (yeah and if you don't seem to be able to boot from a CD using tekram you have to put a delay of 10 on the bios... that's crap.)

    Profiles in Internet Explorer

i saw that... from http://www.ntfaq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=15297 John Savill / March 23, 2000 Q. How can I start Internet Explorer without the toolbars? A. Internet Explorer has a kiosk mode which fills the entire screen with no toolbars using: iexplore -k This may not be exactly what you want though so you could write a windows scripting host program which starts an IE object with the toolbar disabled: Dim objIE Set objIE = WScript.CreateObject ("InternetExplorer.Application") ObjIE.Toolbar = false objIE.Navigate "http://www.savilltech.com" objIE.Visible = true If you save the file has ienobar.vbs and then execute with cscript ienobar.vbs IE will be started with no toolbars. explorer.exe crashes

or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC that will bring up the task manager directly ALT+F -> RETURN then launch iexplore. you'll see... with little habit that comes quite easy. like "damn it crashes again" CTRL+SHIFT+ESC ALT+F RETURN and there it goes again.
  15. i didn't tried it myself. instead what i did (for the demo) was install under 98 then play under 2k. but you should check this address out http://www.shock2.com/faq.html
