    Q3A / RC3 / TNT / no work !

What's wrong with simply using the 3.55 drivers ? They seem to work fine... how can you expect the card to work with hacked drivers ? ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

    Tribes as a service

I won't be possible to turn the .EXE into a Service unless it's been specifically written as a Service. There is a program that can be used to wrap around any exe (distributed as part of the Resource Kit) but it's doesn't work very well IMHO. Why do you want it to run as a Service ? If you can secure your machine you could make it auto-logon and have the Tribes server run during startup; if it's resilence you're looking for. ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

    WIN2k(rc 2128) Quake3 and SMP

Wouldn't a more interesting test be to do timedemo's with and without r_smp turned on, using only the dual CPU machine ? What possible relevance are figures from your other two machines ? ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>
  4. Try this in Q3: r_ignorehwgamma 1 (might be "cg_ignorehwgamma 1" now in 1.09) Then restart. You cannot now adjust the brighness using the in-game controls, but you can then use Powerstrip to change the gamma, or use your monitor brightness controls. ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

    Driver (GT Interactive)

Yeah, it's using the Win9x-specific version of Kernel32.dll. It wont ever work under NT/Win2000. ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

    Good TNT overclocker for 2000?

Well if you don't want PowerStrip you're probably out of luck. Good luck anyway trying to find one. ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

Unreal Tournament Demo, RC1, TNT D3D, Work?

No, I find the performance appalling using 2128 dual PII/450 (@504) with TNT2 Ultra. Fortunetly I still have a V2, so GLIDE is acceptable. Tim Sweeney reckons that RC2 rocks with the NVidia beta drivers, so perhaps there is hope when these are finally released. ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

    quake 3 and win2k

As an update to my previous post in this thread I have it working well now. I use "r_ignorehwgamma 1" to get the gamma up and powerstrip to get it refreshing it at 100Hz, rather than 60Hz. I also use the LeadTek-supplied reference drivers (NVidia Win2000 build 2.0.0). ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

how do I overclock my tnt in win2k?

I think you will have to use PowerStrip to do this. You will also need to use reference drivers, not card manufacturer supplied drivers. ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

    voodoo2 60hz under games with win2k

You should be able to hack the registry to do this. I don't have access to my machine right now, but if you have Win98 you might want to poke around and see if you can find the refresh settings (one for each supported screen resolution). ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>

    quake 3 and win2k

The NT4 2.08 reference driver from www.nvidia.com also works; however: 1) I cannot find a way to adjust (increase) the gamma, so it is far too dark. 2) The game plays at 60Hz, and the "fix" available here (which replaces two ddraw DLLs ??) doesn't work. 3) The framerate sucks compared to Win98 on the same machine (e.g. 38fps compared to 57fps). I cannot get SMP to work with q3test 1.08 either (get grey screen with busy icon). Other than that, I would still play under Win98.... ------------------ Andy Duplain <andy@trojanco.demon.co.uk>
