I have the same problem and the box says PC it has an extra dvd disk

i just bought sims 2 deluxe i have windows xp and all the right video drivers but i cant even get it to run! it wont ever registor the disk is in there! whats going on could it be the disk or is there something i'm not trying??? help me please!
