found the answer.

i had just the same problem in windows xp, when i used program compatibility wizard to run setup.exe. got two red screens: 1)setup for resident evil 2)error so i just used alt+tab to select the error screen and used alt+f4 to close it. and the setup ran on.

so what key do i have to press or is there a special room for saving a game?
