    Adding a subwwofer!

Hey all. My audio setup is the basic, at present, with just 2 crap speakers on my desk. So in the attempt to boost my sound that little bit, I had just recently got hold of a sub woofer. It’s a SONY SA-WMS215 (if that helps!). Now I have cheated a little bit to get this Sub. I have "temporarily borrowed" (not nicked it!) from my parents 5.1 setup in the front room. I wish to add it to my PC to give it a bit of a kick up the ass in sound. Its absolute beast of a SUB and it performs magnificently! So I wish to have it for my PC! My sound card is on-board and the driver is Realtek Audio AC97, I have the port on the back of the PC tower to plug it in, and I do get some sound from it, although, it’s not the sound I expected. It’s a kind of muffled sound that the 2 front speakers give. So I know it’s not configured properly. Basically, I know I need to alter some options/config/setup in terms of software on my PC to make this Sub work. But I don’t know how! It’s turned out Not to be a Plug and Play kinda thing! Any help on this situation would be great. Thanks for taking the time out to read this, and help! Very much appreciated! Phoenix

    Blocked Pages at work!

Hi there all. Would like some advice on the following matter! Websense is the in-house web filter at my work-place. Our network is comprised of two parts. 1) Client side & 2) Staff side. I am on the STAFF side, obviously! The web filter operates over the two sections and therefore, most off my web-browsing that I do at home cannot be done at work, because some pages are blocked under the different sections of the web-filter. Ok! Yes, I know I shouldn't use work PC's for personal use, but some sites are blocked, and would like to gain access to some of them. Does anyone know how if it would be possible, for me access (and change some of) the settings on my work PC so that i can access the sites i would like to go to! Is there a way around WEBSENSE? I have been to their website, and they, naturally, dont give anything away! I have an ADMINISTRATOR account on my work PC, so permissions are not an issue! Thanks in advance, would appreciate a speedy response. Kind Regards, Phoenix

hey zombie. i know what ur saying, and i wish it was that easy but its not on mine! Lexmark Z815 Problem

Hey all. I'm having a problem getting my Lexmark Z815 printer to communicate with my Win XP Professional PC. I know that the hardware is not to fault, because I have installed the printer with no problems, also its BRAND NEW OUT-OF-THE-BOX. I presume the problem is to do with my USB ports. I have 2 USB ports at the rear, and 2 USB ports on the front of the case. I have 2 USB devices; a mouse and the printer, and they are both plugged into the rear ports. I have tried the printer in all 4 of the USB ports. But to no avail. I then went to driverguide.com, and downloaded the latest drivers for my USB ports, installed them (again with no problems) and after a couple of restarts, I thought that would be me problem solved. But it wasn’t, and now I have a fully functioning set of USB ports and a fully functioning printer, but they CAN'T and WON'T communicate with each other. NB: When I want to print something from MS Word, the Lexmark printer is displayed under the available printers and it IS MY DEFAULT printer, and also when I first connected the printer to the PC, via USB, a balloon tip popped up from the taskbar and, supposedly, “Added New Hardware”, realized it was a Lexmark Z 815, and asked for its driver off the CD. This is a very weird problem, and I hope I have explained it well enough for you all to provide some input in this bizarre problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all so much. Phoenix

    EXPLORER.EXE error??????????????

Hey asdf12345. I had the same problem last week, very annoying, isn't it!? Anyway, all i did was re-install my operating system. Took about half hour and my problem was solved. No need to format your drive before hand either, just install win98 again over your old setup. All your personal files (My documents etc...) will still be in place. Let me know how you get on! Phoenix. Good luck.
  15. Hey all. Got my second PC at home now, and this one is far better than the one that's runnning Win 98. But as we all know, I have plenty of problems, so here's my next one for ya.... Windows XP is the current OS on the system. My hard drive is 80G and has 2 partitions (pre-partitioned from manufacture). It runs fine but i would prefer it if Windows 2000 was on it (with SP4, obviosly). I have the disk, just need the method, on how to get rid of Win XP in exchange for Win2000 w/SP4. I have all my documents backed-up, there safe! All installtion CD's are at the ready, I have my 4 start up disks done too! Current state: Partition 1: This is my C: drive, and has the Windows XP installation on it, along with all my programs, games, etc... (45GB) Partition 2: This is my D: drive, and has all the drivers for my hardware. (35GB. God knows why it was made so big???) Well there you have it. Hope to hear of a method soon. Thanks in anticipation. Phoenix PS: Not thinking of networking the 2 PC's at all!!

Win XP to Win 2000 'downgrade'

Hey, thanks for replying. Problem sorted. although, it was a 60GB hard drive not 80. i backed up everything and made 3 partitions on my computer. C:\ drive is 30GB and has Win2000 w/SP4 D:\ drive is 22.5GB and has Win 98 SE E:\ drive is 7.5GB and holds all my music ont he PC. Thanks for helping. Didn't realise how easy it once, until i was actually doing it. Now, i'm off to driverguide.com to get some...well...drivers! Phoenix.
  17. Hey all. Getting sick of Windows 98, so i've decided to go for Windows 2000 Professional, (which I will then upgrade to SP4, possibly via Slipstreaming). My PC is not up to XP minimum specs. I have created the Windows 2000 book disks and they worked fine, and I launched the Win 2000 Setup. The problem is that i get an error msg and i dont have a clue why, at a certain stage. The error meassge is: STOP 0x0000001A (parameter, parameter, parameter, parameter) MEMEORY_MANAGEMENT ...I then have to restart my PC, in an attempt to go through the process againa, but i always get back to this same error message. I went on to the Microsoft Knowledge Base and i got this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;282504 I then checked my hardware against the System Requirements, needed for Win 2000 and I 'passed' the requirements. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Phoenix

    Can't install...Won't Install!!!

Hey all. Hope you all had a good weekend! I wish i could say the same! Here's my little problem! My PC is playing stupid with me a lot lately, so i Fdisk'd it and re-formatted my hard drive, and put on Win 98 Second Edition onto it (its an old pc!), via the flat-insatllation technique, with dos. Installed fine, no problems and i have WIN 98 SE on my PC now. The problem is, is that when I try to install a game, (from CD), the instllation stops (roughly at 35%) and restarts my PC automatically. This happens, no matter what i want to install from CD, and i have to open up the installation program again, and then, during the installation, it then restarts my PC again (this time at about 50%). It's so confusing, and i can't undertstand why this is happening!? I have been on Microsoft Online Help, and other various sites, and no one seems to know why! I was told take off my DMA setting on the CD rom, but it's already off! I have a pretty good system, for one thats old, and I've never had this problem before. I'm running of an AMD K6/2 500mHz, have updated my graphics, sound and CD Drive all within the past 12 months. I dont even have a modem in the PC so i know it can't be a virus, trojan, etc... I know the processor is old and slow, but it's ok for what i need, and I have had all the stuff that i want on it now, running on it before, without problems! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance Phoenix.

    Win98 Se set up

here's an idea! insert your win98 bootdisk into your a: drive when the Windows 98 Statup menu appears, hold down the shift key and press F5, for the command prompt. type in: fdisk /mbr (you may have to press Y at some stage to accept the changes being made.) this will completely reset the hard drive of any associations with its manufacturer! then run fdisk the usual way...delete your primary partition...create another primary partition, then format your new active partition (c: drive). that may work! hope it helps! Upgrading from Win 98 to Win Millenium

Hey all, again! Got another little dillema! I'm wanting to upgrade a PC from WIN98 to WIN ME. The method is use is this: 1) I boot up from my CD-ROM (48x), and the setup procedure starts. 2) I choose the 3rd option on the list; Install Win ME, backup your old OS, NO FORMAT. 3) It places all my existing files on my C:\ to a 'backup' folder, and then proceeds to copy all the new WIN ME OS 'files and folders' to my C:\ This is where the problem occurs.. Once it get's to roughly 34%, a message appears in the top left hand corner saying: CD101 ERROR: Can't read D:\ drive. Abort, Retry, Fail?_ But i know it can read the D:\ or else I would not have been able to go to the setup process in the first place! Also, it just so happens, that shortly after this problem on my machine, a friend brought round his hard drive (20G), and asked me to upgrade his old PC to WIN ME from WIN 98 with my CD, not his! I put his hard drive in my machine, in exchange for mine, used the same CD, (I expected a problem to occur to be honest), but there were no problems what so ever, (the D:\ obviously works!) and now he is on WIN ME, with no problems what so ever!!! HOWCOME??? Is this a problem with my Hard Drive, CD, CDROM Drive, EIDE Connectors or something else? Really annoying me this one! Response of any kind would be appriciated! Thanks all. Phoenix.
