Hello, I am trying to install kanotix x-2004 on a 20 GB hard drive. Windows has a 19gb partition. I can not resize it. I am using Qtparted. i have try many times to create a new partition but i got no where. The Windows partition is active. If i can inactivate it can i resize it then. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Stephen

Hello, I am having trouble installing Linux Mandrake 10.1. The autorun file gives an error saying that the autorun file is not a valid win 32 App. Is there a way i can fix this. I bought the CD from Ebay instead of downloading it. Was it His fault or do I need a different File? Thanks, Stephen

;( Help! ;( I have finnaly got to install Kanotix on my Gateway. So I decided to install it on my Dell. I was able to partition but I am not able to install Kanotix on the partition. I resized my 70 GB partition for windows to 60 GB. Then I clicked on the Partition, The new partition from the windows partition, to create but I can't. It is all greyed-out. How do I install Kantix on that partition. Thanks, Stephen

Hello, I am still with the same disc but i think i am getting further. It starts to install but never does. Here is the kernal log: I/O error on device hdc, logical block 313638. Is there a way i can get the missing file that it needs. Or am I out of luck. The Ebay was supposed to send me the disc last Monday, but he might mail it tomorrow. I am not going to hold my breath on it. Any replies would be nice. Thanks, Stephen

Can some one show me where you get reports like this. Less than 25% of the computers in America don't even run Linux. Almost all reports on trojans, worms and viruses happen on computers that run windows. Can some one prove me wrong on this. Also, the guy who write this uses Yahoo. Any OS can have problems but less on Linux OS because they have to have special virus and worms written for Linux. I will leave you a link so you can read the whole story. Please reply, Stephen

OK Here is the layout //Dos(23 MB or so)\Windows(60.00)\New partition(11.)\Dell Restore (2.3GB)\Blank(7.8MB)// I can not format the partitions after they are created. All i have when i click on the partition is "&Proprty" .

Forget it. I solved the problem. Quit trying to install it. This is way to hard to install. Maybe when i finnaly get my mandrake 10.1 it will be easier. I learnt 2 things out of this. Linux is hard and NEVER Buy Disc from EBAY.

I want to make room for linux. My father just paid a $100 for xp so he wants to keep it. I finnaly got it to get where you can resize the drive and create partitions. But when you click commint it gives an error. In root it show this error "Unable to allign partitions properly". Then there is Error "780481 clusters instead of 7480485 clusters like the app. said". Am i doing the install wrong? I type sudo kanotix-install in the Shell. This is the first time I tried to install linux on a computer. Thanks, Stephen

Question I am using linux live CDs. I use Knoppix 3.7 and Kanotix x-2004. In my disply settings i only have one choose of pixels. 600x480 is all i have for the screen resolution. How can i fix this? Thanks, Stephen

Don't know. It is a new Dell computer. The monitor is a 19" flat screen CTR.

i don't know this seems confussing to me. Would it have been easier to install XP first and then Mandrake so it can reconize XP First. But if I was you I would have just installed Mandrake. I don't know how much you have used windows or XP But you will found out that windows stinks.

Thanks, I have a Dell Deminsion 3000 XP PRO SP2 3 GHZ 512 MB SDDRAM 80 GB Hard Drive Intel Pentium 4 HT I have had it for about an month. It is not very old. The CDs i bought where "Home Burned". The burn is compatible with my computer cause i can read the disc. Although the Disc has a defected place on the edge of the disc. I have contacted the seller and have not gotten a responce yet. I do not have High-Speed internet so I can not download the CDs myself. Do you know where I could get some CDs cheap. Thanks, Stephen

;( HELP! ;( I was able to boot from the CD. Then i went and press enter to install Linux Mandrake 10.1. It starts to install. It detects USB and the get about 40% on the status bar when it says "Loading program into memory...". I went and looked at the logs. I saw some errors. like "File-not-found-in-archive-kebdeuko" and a missing file in sysroot\tmp\install\stage2\mdrinst_stage2.bz2" Does this mean that i am missing a file on my CD. If so where can i download. Thanks, Stephen
