A Note from One Who Has Nearly Lost His Mind!

Since installing SP2, my machine goes into periods of making a sound similar to a chimpanzee trying to tune a xylophone. I was advised to turn of automatic updates, which I have. Still that chimp is in there somewhere, swinging his frigging xylophone stick. Any ideas? Regards
