    help!!!

I am assuming you are running windows XP. Did your other logon also have admin rights? If so do the following. from control panel administrative tools click on computer management then click on local users and groups. click on users then right click on administrator and click on set password. You can then enter a new password for administrator.

    Windows SP2

I recently have had the same problem on 2 different machines here. What I had to do is uninstall SP2. Run spybot or someother spyware detector and also run a program called BHOdemon. You can get bhodemon from pcworld. It's free. You will see multiple BHO's that say they are malware. These must be disabled. The software tells you how to do this. I have not reinstalled SP2 and probably won't. You will probably have to go to your registry and delete some of these bad help objects *BHO*. If you don't know how to play with the registry I suggest you find a friend who can help you.

    explorer.exe application error

Just to let you know I was able to get into safe mode and then delete service pack 2. After that I was able to open control panel. I also ran BHOdemon because things were still suspect. Found at least 10 bad BHO's disabled them and deleted from the registry. Loaded spybot to run resident on his pc and all is well now.

user has just downloaded windows Service pack2 update to his xp machine. Now on any of the operating system task you get this error explorer.exe application error the instruction at "0x0228ca30' referenced memory at '0x00000000' the memory could not be written. Cannot get to control panel or my computer to try and uninstall the service pack. Any ideas what I might try short of reformating and starting from scratch?
