    Won't boot (sporadic) & Freezes

How far into the boot process are you getting before this starts happening? did you do a temp check of your cpu? did you check for bad ram?

    NuMegaSoftICE

I just recently started using softice. But I know nearly nothing about the software. It's unlike anything I've ever used for taking apart anything and it's quite exciting. Just thougth I'd share that tid bit with everyone. PS: YES it works on XP just don't have SP1 installed... I don't know a whole hell of alot when It comes to disassembling and the like, I'm used to stand alone programs like windasm and Hiew to edit programs (mostly cracking and figuring out how stuff works). OllyDbg is what I used the most. I'm still having trouble setting up my symbols becuase frankly I am ignorant up to this point. But I like to learn as I go along. I actually bought this software on a splurge one day. Still have lots of reading to do before I really start playing with anything but for the most part it's impressive. And brings a whole new side to things. If anyone knows of any good tutorials/links related to softICE or assembler in general let me know. Thanks.
  4. Somewhere down the line I used Ad removal programs that added features to aim as well as removing ad's. The newest version of Aim did not have an AD hack (5.9) for it so I made my own. Anyway, Middleman (aim ad hacker) had a feature in it to snap to desktop corner in it's features. I recently installed Itunes and it immeadiately shuts down when it starts up. I know it has somthing to do with this. SO far: I've tried installing old aim again and middleman and reversing the process but to no avail. and I am definately not an MSCE to figure out what I need to do to restore full functionality to windows but I know enough to know it has somthing to do with a change made to windows at the desktop. any help, hints, anything would be appriciated. (looks in alecstars direction hah) I'm desperate

    Problem with Connecting

buy a router like this "D-LINK 8PT 10/100 Nway Swch W/ Geth RJ45 Uplink", and subnet out for 10 computers. (ten so that your network has room to grow if needed). Subnetting rule is N(squared) - 2. If you can't find how to do this on google, invest in a book. Oh, and for the love of god, if you haven't already done this, disable automatic updates in services. wait a good month or so before ever up[censored]. let those suckers deal with the bugs.
  6. I recently downloaded the 64bit XP .iso and burned it to disk so I could set up 64bit XP. Only it didn't go as planned. I'm running an AMD 64 3200+ 2.2 ghz proccesor with a 250gb Matxtor maxline II SATA harddrive. My mother board is an shuttle an5or nforce3 150 chipset. (with 64 bit support.) I have 1 gb DDRAM and SB audigy pro 2z plat. DETAILED HISTORY: first I tried installing the silicon drivers that came with my mainboard for the 64bit XP not realizing it wouldn't support 64. So, I downloaded the silicon updated drivers from: http://www.short-media.com/download.php?dc=62 and got past the 3rd party driver screen but as I pressed enter to start the install, my computer shut itself down. I was dumb founded. Perhaps it has to do with my ram? I might try booting with all but 1 ram stick in. then after its al complete, putting it back in. I'm so new to Raid = Serial ATA. any help will be appriciated cause at this point I'm desperate for a taste of 64bit fun.

    64Bit XP Trial Problems.

Originally posted by jmmijo: Quote: First of all, don't give up quite yet The issue maybe with the system itself. Does it install Windows XP 32-bit just fine without shutting down like you described ?!? If so then this is good start and seems to indicate that your hardware is working. Now then when you d/l the Silicon Image device drivers, did you d/l the RAID 64-bit drivers or the ATA 64-bit drivers ?!? This is important in that you only have the single HD and thus only have it running in ATA/IDE/Single drive mode, not RAID mode!!! Double check this and copy the files, after you extracted them from the archive onto a formatted floppy disk. Now reboot the machine with the 64-bit XP in the CD and press the F6 key when it displays the third party SCSI RAID controller line at the bottom of the screen. See what happens and let us know. I had no problems using this beta install so far what about my wireless card. I cant't find it's drivers anywhere. It would suck to go through all that and be stuck at that point

But the time has come and I am finally upgrading my ram. However, the ram I required for a dell motherboard (which is modified to where you have to use as much dell made stuff as possible) requires the most expensive ram ever made. I have been to stores like circuit city, best buy, to ask questions about ram and such (I should have just gone to Fry's right off the bat), and they all told me that they don't even carry that ram because no one uses it because it's so expensive. So I bought a new motherboard and processor, and new ram, which eneded up being half as cheap as buying just the ram. Now I have run into a myriad of new problems. It turns out dell motherboards are modded to use specifically dell power supplies. So now I have to use one of my roommates power supplies until I get a new one for myself. Then I realized, his power supply doesn't properly fit inside my case, so I will have to mod my pc. I call this mod, power supply outside the case. After looking through forums for well over three hours, I ran into another chump like me that bought a dell a long time ago, and needs to replace his motherboard, but can't figure out how to get the damn thing off. One person said that dell crazy glues their motherboards to their cases. Does anyone know if that is true? Can I get my old motherboard off that case? I want to keep that case to put all my new stuff in. And I was going to use my old motherboard and spare parts to put a DivX machine in the living room on the tv, just set it up naked (without a case). Or does anyone know where I can get a cheap case? I already spent a lot on the new motherboard and ram, now I need to buy a new power supply, so I don't want to buy a new case, but if I absolutely can't remove the motherboard, anyone know where I can get a butt-ass cheap case? This is my first post to a forum ever in my life, so sorry it's so long, someone please help out this NooB. Ickis www.three-rings.com/ickis That sucks man. I wish I had of known you before you did this cause I knew about the atx powersupply and dell motherboard issue. But I didnt fry my mobo cause I was not trusting of dell after my customer service. I checked the power supply volatages before I installed new mobo (which was a BITCH to get out of the case) and they switch the voltages around as opposed to ATX standard. Proprietary companies can **ow me. in the end it wasn't worth the trouble. So I bought my new computer and built it myself with the guidance of a friend for compatibility issues with my mobo case cpu and ram

If your router is a D-link, don't think your doing anything wrong. throw it out and buy a differnt router. cause d-links are big pieces of crap.

    SoundBlaster Audigy problem

I had problems similar to this and it had to do with turning off my on board audio in my motherboards bios. So do that kids, then restart.

    Firewire to Videocam problem

hmmm. I say find some updated drivers using google, and checking your motherboard's bios. I've seen similar issues in my video production class. think tehy fixed it by a driver update. (reason for the problem was motherboard compatibility with the driver version.)

    Fedora Core

I am new to linux but not computers. I recently installed fedora core 2. What are some of the basic's of linux. perhaps someone could link me to some good resources. cheers ps. will my WPC54G Laptop wireless NIC card work with Fedora? I was curious as to whether anyone has written any drivers for it. ;-) I am on a Gateway solo 2500 laptop. NeoGraphics on board isn't recognized by Fedora yet I still have 800x600 picture and thousands of color. fedora is infinitly better than windows already... haha. - Nick

    Fedora Core

I'm already diggin' linux. I'm glad I went with fedora. Only draw back is fedora core 2 writing over BOTH partitions. windows xp is hosed. But o well. Fedora will prolly have a bug fix for it soon. I hear that it's better to go with older than newer but I have always have been hasty ;-) perhaps windows just doesn't know how to fight back against better tech.
