Using a scanner with Windows 2003 Server

I'll try a different approach... I need to have a scanner in a Windows 2003 server standard edition, SP1. What brand and model can I use in the $80 - $150 price range? All the ones I see are listed as compatible with Windows XP, but not with 2003 Server.

Using a scanner with Windows 2003 Server

[Not available on HP site] Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it doesn't work. I downloaded the file, but when I install the .inf file it searches for files not included in the .zip file and the installation fails.
  3. I need to use an hp ScanJet 3400C scanner on a PC with Windows 2003 Server standard edition, SP1. Drivers are for Windows XP, there are no drivers for Windows 2003 Server on the hp support site, but as I said before, I need to use the scanner on this server PC. I started the Windows Image Aquisition (WIA) service and then installed the drivers without any problem. On the device manager I can see the scanner, supposedly working properly and without any conflicts. But when I try to use it I always get a "can't initialize scanner" error. Is there any other service I need to start? BTW, the same scanner works perfectly with the same drivers and software on a PC with Windows XP.
  4. I have a customer that requires remote support quite frequently. The problem is that this customer's site is located in an area on which there is only one ISP, and it only provides internet connection though a cable-modem without the possibility of having a public IP address. I would like to use Terminal Services on Windows 2003 server, but I can't make this work without a public IP address on the server side. So far all I've found are applications that give me remote control functionality, like Windows Messenger and LogMeIn, which don't give me all the functionality of Terminal Services. So the question is, does anyone know how I can make Terminal Services work without a public IP address on the server side? Or is there a 3rd party software that can emulate terminals thought the internet without a public IP address on the server side?
  5. I would like to set up a Windows XP Pro computer as a terminal server, but I can't get it to work with more than one concurrent connection. At the moment, if you log on to it while another user is connected, he will be disconnected. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
  6. When installing Windows XP Pro SP1 on a PC with a SCSI disk, I've always had disconnect the ATA disks because for some reason Windows always decides to install the boot files on the ATA disk, even when I specify that I want Windows installed in the SCSI disk. Anyway, by simply disconnecting the ATA disks I've always been able to install Windows and the virtual memory page file on the SCSI disk, until now. Yesterday I added a 120 GB ATA disk to my PC and I later noticed that Windows had decided by itself to move the virtual memory page file to this disk. But when I checked on the virtual memory window, the strange thing was that it said it was located on the SCSI disk, but it was really in the ATA disk. So I erased this paging file by setting the virtual memory file to size 0, rebooted, then I erased the file, removed the E: label from the ATA disk and mounted it on a directory of the SCSI disk. Then I opened the virtual memory window and set a new page file on the SCSI disk and rebooted, but for some reason it doesn't create the virtual memory file. When I log in after rebooting it says that there was an error creating the virtual memory file. The boot order in the BIOS is as follows: 1) SCSI-0 (Seagate Cheetah 15K.3) 2) Maxtor D740X (master on IDE # 1) 3) Maxtor D740X (master on IDE # 2) 4) Western Digital Special Edition (slave on IDE # 1) I've tried changing the boot order of all the IDE disks, always leaving the SCSI as the first device, but I still can't create the virtual memory page file on the SCSI disk. I've even tried disconnecting all IDE disks again, leaving only the SCSI disk, and I still can't create the page file. The Cheetah and the WD disk are basic file systems, while the two Maxtors are dynamic disks spanned on RAID 0. SCSI controller is an LSI Logic U160, motherboard is an Asus PC-DL Deluxe with BIOS 1003 and OS is Windows XP Pro with SP1 and all the latest updates. Any advice will be appreciated.
